  1. True story. He's going to kick himself when he sees this today or whenever. I can always make a burner account named 'OakManTwentyNine' and take it off your hands if you like lol.
  2. I didn't, until I looked at the hidden section, then it became very clear. Thats actually really good, I've tried real-life faces before and they always seem "off" somehow. Great job on her proportions.
  3. Don't mean to necro an old thread, but I came across this while doing some David Finch sketch research, and happened to ALSO come across the Superman sketch in question over at my local Ebay. As an Unsolved Mysteries update, the seller is asking $800, probably the same guy that was trying to hawk it on Amazon. Thought someone else might find that as amusing as I did. Additionally, my imagination ran wild with this for some reason and now I have this idea for a one-shot comic where someone gets a cursed commission piece, and sells it for less than he paid, right before inexplicably disappearing. Each subsequent owner also loses money on it, and also goes missing. The comic gets passed down through the ages from owner to owner, who all end up missing afterwards, until the mystery is finally unraveled. In the end the final owner manages to break the curse by making a profit after purchasing it for $6.50 at a flea market and flipping it for $8.75 on Craigslist.
  4. Mecha Venom. Not my best work but you don't get better without some hiccups along the way.
  5. I dont think they suck per se, the tree one is quite good actually. As you said, free handing ANY face is super hard, never mind with watercolor. I'd recommend just sketching Joker a bunch til your real comfortable with his features, then using one of those as an outline for your WC. Also might want to try other mediums. I'm decent with paint but my WC attempts would look about on par with yours.
  6. Just came back today after an in person signing at my LCS by Clayton Crain in September. Shocked they both got 9.8s, my last five submissions have all come back 9.8 or above somehow
  7. Lol, thanks! I just started using paint pens in the past few weeks so I haven't delved into original stuff yet, still aping established characters. Hadn't heard of Manhattan Projects, I'll have to check that series out.
  8. My "adventures in learning to use a paint pen" attempt #4: Dark Carnage
  9. Great job on the shirt folds! Its the little details like that and the hand shading that I find most difficult.
  10. I have a very hot and cold relationship with art, hadn't seriously drawn anything in years but recently picked up some paint pens that Kav suggested. Here are my first few attempts at...something lol.
  11. I've wanted a peach remark for awhile now but I seem to keep missing out. Sad Lemon has literally 1 extra of the Capt Marvel 16 & 1 Ghost Spider #8 (both remarked) for sale right now, and I don't have the $275 until I get paid on Wednesday, when they will surely be gone 🤯😭🤬
  12. "Twins" that I sent in for a friend and myself for the recent Marat Mychaels in house signing. The one on the right is my buddy's very 1st comic, that I talked him unto buying, and subsequently talked him into getting a remark on, comes back a 10 lol.
  13. Fresh back from the CGC Marat Mychaels signing, the only 10 Tiggomverse #1 (Crain Variant) on either the universal or SS census, and in fact the only 10 I've ever held in my hands lol. I imagine sketched/ remarked 10s are pretty rare huh?
  14. Yeah that's why I originally thought he would be a good fit, he does some awesome pieces sometimes. It just seems really hit or miss. You either end up with something like you linked or something like this...
  15. That might look really cool. I have a painting of the Normandy from Mass Effect so that would actually compliment that quite nicely.
  16. Wow, that's crazy. Really appreciate you posting the full convo. I can understand delays or hiccups sometimes, but 16 months?!? That's just insane. He seemed contrite enough so at least he didn't get all defensive but still.
  17. Yep, these all detract from the books, rather than add to them. I'd be pretty disappointed if I shelled out hundreds of dollars and ended up with one of those. A big part is the color choice. Doing gold or silver on top of existing art is just asking for a hot mess. The placement also makes me wonder if he just tossed aside the window bags or if these are books that were sent in with giant windows and no specific placement requests.
  18. I stand corrected lol. I always just assumed that was the "high end" destination. I'll have to keep my eye on them from now on as well.
  19. For new books I tend to prefer Comic Mint and Mutant Beaver Comics (Canada). I also spend an inordinate amount of money on Tyler Kirkham's store as I love Venom and he does some really nice remarked/ signed/ graded editions every month. For anything older I go Ebay and try my luck picking up auctions that end below FMV. My pockets aren't deep enough for Heritage lol.
  20. Ooh, I like the colors for sure. I had thought about requesting Knowhere, but wasn't sure if that'd be too intricate.
  21. That's been a bit of a concern of mine, actually. I've seen some really nice remarks he's done, but he tends to do black marker alot, and with the dark purple background I'm a bit concerned it won't show up very well. I'm a fan of his work on GotG and he's got an upcoming in house signing with CGC so it seemed like a good opportunity, but I might end up waiting and finding someone else who typically uses paint pens or something similar. Appreciate the responses guys!
