  1. Some really good advice in this thread from people far more seasoned than I am. Overall I think you're going about it the right way. Be cautious, do your research, ask questions. Pick up some (relatively) inexpensive stuff and send some books in for grading. These will all be good learning experiences and will help shape how you approach the hobby moving forward. You're going to make some mistakes on purchases and sales and that's ok, experience is the best teacher. Just don't go overboard while suckling at the teat of FOMO and you should be fine. And a belated welcome to the hobby btw!
  2. Hence why I said "IF you're into the series/artist". I'd let him make that determination rather than just assuming he is or he isn't.
  3. Honestly if it were me I would probably get one. The 1st and 3rd look cool. They're only $30-$50 each and if you're into the series/ artist then it's a pretty cheap way to have some of their art and sig. They almost certainly won't go up in value, and there's no way to get them slabbed in a SS holder, but its still pretty decent value for the price. I'd pick the one I liked the best and throw it in a frame up on my wall. Again, as others have said, its all about your intent. If it's just for the art, pick one up, if it's an investment it's probably best to put your money elsewhere.
  4. Thanks for the reply! Yeah I've gotten a few remarks before from a couple different artists, and they seem to vary in size/ scope. All in the $200 range. I wasn't expecting a full cover or anything, just something different. The "spidey shoots a web" qualifies as a story for my purposes. I've found that if I give the artist some semblance of a story I've gotten a better result, as opposed to asking them to just "draw groot". Something like "groot as an astronaut" or "rocket riding a rocket" was what I was thinking lol. I hadn't thought about the word balloon though, that might be kinda cool. Just don't want a generic headshot of Starlord in one corner or anything.
  5. So I picked up a copy of Guardians of the Galaxy 1, the 1:200 space variant (see pic) on sale with the intent of having a remark/ sketch done on the front cover by Mark Brooks. Trouble is, I'm not entirely sure what to request and I'd like your help deciding what to get! My favorite characters from GotG are Groot and Rocket, but I think Nebula's colors work really well with the purple background. I'd like to do something that tells a story, if that makes sense, something more nuanced than just "here's a random sketch of x character". Help a fellow yellow fever sufferer out and let me know what you think would look best!
  6. Those are awesome! Can I ask where/ how you got them remarked? I have a couple Peach books that I'd love to get her sig/ remark on but I've been having trouble finding an opportunity to do so.
  7. May have been damaged post-grading/ during the encapsulation process. I doubt CGC would miss anything that significant. Got any scans from before it was sent in for grading?
  8. I already posted these in the sketch covers thread, but I can't spread the good word about Clayton Crain (nicest guy ever) enough so check out these. All done today in WV during his road tour. 1st and last are mine, middle two were done for a couple other guys.
  9. Love the Gang of Harleys sketches, especially the 2nd one. I picked up one from Kincaid recently as well.
  10. I know right?!? Its a Venomized T-Rex out of issue 25. It was done a few after mine and I was like "damn, I should've asked for THAT" lol.
  11. Not exactly full cover sketches, but I wanted to show off the work of an awesome artist. These were done today by Clayton Crain during his road tour in Morgantown, WV. He was seriously the nicest guy ever, he even called a lady's son for her just to say hi to him. He did two sketches for me personally (the 1st and last).
  12. Thanks Deadpoolica. It seemed pretty normal to me but I wanted to make sure before mailing it in. Revat, should I post that in the "ask CGC" section of the forums?
  13. Hey everyone, new member here. Got back into comics recently after a 20 year or so hiatus and had a question about the etiquette of requesting remarques. I apologize if this has been asked elsewhere, I searched the forums and presented my query to a gentleman down at my local Google, but neither venture was particularly helpful. I'm submitting a CGC 9.8 graded copy of Tiggomverse for the in-house signing and remarque by Marat Mychaels in September. I followed the directions and prepared a separate window bag, and was debating on writing quick notes on the painters tape surrounding the window sections. For instance, I wanted to write "sign here in purple" or "remarque/ sketch here" along with some small details, like color or size. Is this okay to do or do artists get a bit annoyed by notes around the windows? I also wanted to add a 3rd (small) window and request Marat to write "1/1" in a certain spot. I feel like that's asking extra as I'm already getting his signature and a small sketch, but I think it would look really cool on this particular comic (I know, I'm a weirdo). What are the generally accepted parameters pertaining to remarque requests, window bags, etc. so I don't submit it and have the artist roll their eyes, or reject my submission for excessive fussiness? Is it normal to write notes to the artist or is that frowned upon? Why am I spending so much money on a remarque for an issue of Tiggomverse? Any and all answers to the above would be greatly appreciated!
