  1. I have a signed TAH #1 signed by Greg Pak with a COH from Midtown Comics. To my unprofessional grading eye this looks like a 9.8. Would it be better to get a qualified label or send it to another company for unqualified grading? Not a super valuable book now but I think it has some upside. Thoughts?
  2. Worth slabbing? Not really looking to sell but I'd love to protect it and maybe do something with down the road. Definitely needs a good press but no color breaks as far as I can tell. Cut off by the publishers short at the top.
  3. Just out of curiosity I wanted to see what this would be graded. It was one of my biggest back issue purchases at $8 back in the late 80s. I thought it was so cool because I had not seen a cross publisher crossover before. It is not in great shape but is complete and staples are in great shape. It has some fairly major scrapes around the "vs" and Hulk's thigh and elbow where something was holding it. I haven't had it bagged or boarded for the last 30+ years because of its size but will probably get one next week.
  4. Not much of a grader yet but I wanted to chime I'm because Kraven's Last Hunt was my introduction to collecting. I think ASM 293 was the actual issue.
  5. Pressing is a relatively new technique of using pressure and heat to remove imperfections. When I was collecting in the 90s it wasn't a thing but it's pretty prevalent now especially if you want to get something graded by the CGC. It can sometimes improve scores 1.5-2 points. I'm sure more people can speak more knowledgeably than me on this.
  6. Thank you to everyone who takes your time to critique the books. Since I'm a collector who has really no experience grading books I learn a lot from seeing people's grades and especially those of you who take the time to explain why you give it that grade. Thanks to Rhialto and everyone who does this. I have no plans on selling anything soon but I do enjoy seeing the values of these books. For the most part, I haven't collected floppies for almost 30 years and due to quaran-cleaning, I decided to look through my books. I've decided to slab a few, NM 87,98, ASM 238,300 and spent too much time over the last 2 weeks tracking sales on Ebay and looking at grades on here. Thanks all.
  7. I know this book has some very evident flaws but outside of the 3 larger ones I see I think it is very clean otherwise. There is a major fold with a color break on the LRC and LLC is slightly torn. On the back, under the TSR logo there is a 1/8 of an inch cut. What do you think?
  8. Dang. Wish I saw this before. I have a ASM 361 which is in great shape except for a bent corner. Without that it would definitely be slab worthy. With a signature and slab for $75 would have been very tempting.
  9. Thank you. Would a press help? What keeps it from being higher? I know all grades are subjective and looking at a photo isn't the best way but I am trying to learn so I can grade properly myself.
  10. I just decided to inventory my comics due to quarantine and wanted to see what some keys were worth. I was big into collecting during the late 80s and early 90s but outside of the occasional floppy and slightly more frequent trade, I haven't kept up for the last 25 years. I did bag and board them all so they are mostly in very good shape (for a teenage boy). I have considered slabbing some and pressing if necessary, which I didn't even know was a thing. My main problem is that I don't know what is the difference between an 8 and a 9 or 9.6, etc. Here is a NM 98 that I found which was my brother's mixed up with my books. I did some research of previous sales on ebay and he decided that he wanted me to sell it raw so it's up for the next 5 days. Tried to attach more photos than the cover but I need to reread the FAQ. Here is the link to the ebay listing for more pictures. https://www.ebay.com/itm/114342518089
