  1. Well I thank you for asking. It saved me the disappointment of submitting a book in which I get a .5 in the best case scenario. I didn't notice it because it didn't affect the story and unless I counted the pages I wouldn't have found out until too late.
  2. Like Funnybooks said, please take complete pictures of the front and back covers and possibly all 4 corners front and back. This will help people attempting grades.
  3. Hey all. A big key which is in pretty good shape except for the oxidation. There's a small tear on the top of the front cover and slight tearing around the staples. And some spine roll that needs some fixing. Thanks!
  4. Thanks for the heads up. It has been removed. They tore or cut it so I didn't see any evidence of a missing page right away. Does this make this a .5?
  5. I'd have to check. I'm not sure what I'm looking for though.
  6. Hey all! Another Silver age key. 1st appearance of Scorpion. It's torn around the top staple but hanging on. Pretty severe tanning (shadowing? Not sure of the difference) along the top and spine. Appears to have some water damage along the bottom BC. And missing smaller than a dime sized piece along the top BC. TIA
  7. Actually my buddy's book. He's looking to slab some big books. Thanks!
  8. Another book from my friend. Much better shape than the Avengers 9. Definitely could use a clean a press.
  9. Hey all. A buddy of mine has several books he is looking to sell and I'm trying to ascertain the value to decide whether to have something graded or not. I have almost no experience with Silver age books so this is a head scratcher for me. Thanks everyone.
  10. Grades are in. I know no one was seriously able or trying to grade them but I'm pretty proud. Glare hid a couple of grades so L&K 1 was 9.8 and NM87 9.2. @KCOComics nailed 3 grades.
  11. Literally just got back 3 copies of this book that all came back 9.6s. I wasn't expecting 9.8s but I don't know what makes a difference there.
  12. Hey all. I've been lurking and occasionally posting some pictures on Spare a Grade but wanted to share my first grading submission. I posted this in another forum but I was told it was probably best to put it in the general forum. After doing some cleaning and organizing during Covid I decided to submit some books to CGC. I didn't have any experience or connections at the time because grading wasn't around when I was collecting as a kid. So I looked up a LCS and submitted through them. He said he had a presser that he preferred to CGC's so I used his. I probably slightly overpaid but if the books come back well I will be happy. I didn't take individual pictures but took a fanned out picture of what I gave him so I had a record of it. They all seemed pretty clean and sharp to my untrained eye but at the time I wouldn't have know the difference between an 8.0 and a 9.8 (not sure I could do it right now but will feel better once I see some books that have been graded). Anyway, I think the books are probably still a month or so off but I want to share my sweat. Here's a list of books. 3 copies of New Mutants #98 NM #87 ASM #238 with Tattooz ASM #300 Newsstand Locke & Key #1

  14. Not sure what the back cover is supposed to look like. Is this intentional or damage? The LLC is pretty rounded, too. Thanks!
  15. In need of a press and just narrowly averted a total disaster when after I took photos my 8 year old son accidentally got a piece of tape stuck partially to the back cover.
  16. This book is a monster. It has to be 80+ pages. I think this led to some bindery tears. I see some color rub but overall pretty clean.
  17. I'm just learning to grade myself so I'm I'm interested in seeing what people grade this as. They defects on both books appear to be pressable with the one around Boom Boom's face being the most severe.
  18. I think the first one you posted is far superior IMO. I have little grading experience but the eye test makes the bottom of the 2nd cover less attractive to me.
  19. I may not know what I am looking for but a think the corners are pretty sharp. I think the blunting effect may be from shadows from my photographs. As for the spine roll you are probably right about that. Definitely pressing before grading. Thank you for the feedback.
  20. Thanks in advance for any feedback on this. I think I'm probably gonna press and slab this. It's been sitting in my collection in my basement and I think it would look nicely mounted somewhere. Outside of a tick on the back and a small one on the front I think it shows very well. Sorry for the glare on a the pictures. I am still trying to learn the best way to take photos for grading.
  21. The important question is does it have the Tattooz?
