  1. Good point - I originally misread this info and thought it was the top 100 desired books and he kept track of the GPA prices for those books but it does say he is grabbing the most sold books which will probably grab a couple low grade mega key books like X-Men 1 since they do come up often and wouldn't cost an arm and a leg. But in general the trend for the top 100 selling books for the different eras is very evident but it doesn't include every possible book for sure. But as long as he uses the same procedure to get data then it's a very good snap shot of what has been going on for the last decade or so. I do think his statement that the Silver Age have come back to the projected values while the Bronze / Copper books are lower than would be projected is a good litmus test of the analyses. Those that track books can see this to be true pretty much across the board where the newer the book the harder the correction as been (to the point they could be seen as a deal based on past prices especially when you consider inflation).
  2. Very detailed review of the current market. Thanks for posting it. I’d be shocked if his charts don’t continue to correct at least to the 2019 levels which would basically erase any profits for a 4 year period. A healthy correction especially for the collectors who are buying.
  3. Now that is kind of stupid in my book. Unless there was some extreme slab shaking going on a CGC 9.4 shouldn't get a 7.5 from anyone. I know - I know . . it all work out in the end since people just expect the books to be under graded but that level of difference is just confusing to everyone involved. They can grade how ever they please but it just seems dumb to be that strict that 9.4 books are being graded 7.5 / 8.0 (not once but over and over again).
  4. My Con this weekend turned out great even with the obvious drop in people - how did yours go?
  5. My bad - he did say he has 30 years in the industry so he is old - which should have given him a bit of patience by now.
  6. A big buyer came by and made it a fantastic show. Big discounts were needed but cash is king.
  7. My expectations were pretty low and it looks like I had them way too high. There was a couple other cons in the area yesterday so there is evidence of buyer fatigue. No surge of buyers at the opening and a lot of dealers looking at each other. I talked to the promoter and there has been a big drop in booth demand in Cleveland which caused an influx in dealers from Michigan. I grabbed some high grade X-Men Byrne issues so happy so far with my purchases.
  8. This explanation seems more plausible then a $20K mega key book going for $11K even on E-Bay during a downturn. I tend to side with the seller in these cases just because things do happen on E-Bay occasionally which will hurt the seller way more than the lost opportunity for the buyer.
  9. Only a couple more days before this great Con. Sounds like the hotel will keep the restaurant open all afternoon so you can grab quality food before or after digging through boxes.
  10. Hector - you setting up at shows any longer? Last I remember was you were selling books at any reasonable offer. Hope you are doing well.
  11. Big keys are not in my wheel house so not sure about current prices. Big keys are a small portion of the hobby - the books I’m more familiar with are well below 2020 levels pretty much across the board.
  12. Wow - that is kind of crazy to see. No idea how you grade but a 9.4 to 5.5 is quite the drop!
  13. And they want free shipping and for the seller to eat the 3% paypal fees. If it aint cheap then I don't see many bronze - modern slabs trading hands on the boards. It's been that was for as long as I can remember and only getting worse.
  14. Selling common slabs on the boards is a nightmare if you don't want to give a 15 - 20% haircut in value. People on the boards are frugal and will always want a deal unless it's a really hard to find book. I agree selling on the boards gets a lot easier when you have a ton of raw books at a fair price (and even that can be hit or miss).
  15. Nobody is getting Disney+ to get Hulu. Not saying Hulul doesn't have a few good shows and some value but the 60 billion price tag seems silly.
  16. People are not hyping any copper / modern (or Bronze for that matter) because there is nothing that can be classified as hot. Books are selling (very slowly) for sure but I've not seen much newer stuff that isn't cool to ice cold. Just my observations.
  17. I'm setting up at this show and bringing my better books along with a ton of $10 / $20 high grade books. Always a packed hall and the promoter is telling us there will be a lot of new blood at this Con. Come check it out this Sunday. I'm sure we will have the Browns on the radio.
  18. I agree there is no really good route forward at this point since any changes will push down subscription numbers which will off share holders. But if I produce 6 great shows (and 10 not so great shows) for billions of dollars that you can stream in a couple months then it's a loss for me as the producers. If all services push monthly fees up to $30 but then offer a year long subscription for $15 will give you locked in people money. And at this point if all the subscription services start raising prices drastically what options do people have? We have all cut the cord so there really is no going back to the old ways (where we were all paying $100 a month). Things will have to change once all the services lose tons of cash.
  19. Streaming services will have to lock people in for 6 or possibly 12 months to combat people switching services each month. Monthly services will double in price and the only way to keep the "cheap" service will be to lock yourself in kind of like they do with phone services. The current price structure is just too cheap considering how much shows can be digested in a month (even 2 hours a day is 60 hours of entertainment for $15 ). The number of people signed up will plummet but they will also plummet with everyone switching every month or two.
  20. I see quite a few past sales for well over $100 so if people are starting to be desperate enough to put CGC 9.8s up for auction I can see why it's getting a lot of action (especially if it's only going for $83 in CGC 9.8). Prices for slabbing are way up and CGC seems to still be strict so I'd not expect a $50 copy to pop up any time soon.
