  1. ST 114 was the acrobat disguised as CA, right? I wonder how long they thought about reviving CA before they decided on this approach to check reader interest. Would be fun to know how positive reader response was, if it was close or a rout. Avengers #4 came out March 64, and ST 114 was November 1963. Too bad one cannot read the letter pages after slabbing...
  2. I know Mr. Pym picked up the ST 111, but does anyone know who got the White Mountain 112 in 9.4? I wonder how many other major ST collectors we have out there...
  3. There are two pre-hero books. The Tales To Astonish 1-10 is out already, and the Tales of Suspense 1-10 should be out next week or so. Don't know about any Strange Tales pre-hero though. I have the two Doctor Strange and the Torch books. A fun read.
  4. Well said. The hunt is the thing, it's actually kind of sad when a run is completed. Personally, I hope Doug's runs are never broken up, but passed to another well-heeled collector or maybe a museum;-)
  5. Can someone comment on when Stan Lee started scripting Strange Tales issues?
  6. Then the question is why? What caused the Atlas/Marvel staff to shift focus from horror to sf to monster? Were sales declining? Too much devilish competition? Some sign of the times? Also, how did this correlate with the start of ToS and TtA? Looking at the census: ST #70 was August 1959 ToS #1 was January 1959 TtA #1 was January 1959 What was so special about mid/late 1958 to cause this? Questions, questions, questions...
  7. Anyone know which issue is the official start of the "monster" issues as compared to the earlier "horror" issues? I think it's around #65-#70 or so.
  8. If you're gonna tantalize us with tales like those, you'll have to give us some background on where and how you found them;-) Awesome set.
  9. Check out Doctor Watson Strange Tales #101-#188 score=8900 Very nice run...
  10. Well, I'm not quite finished yet with 101-168. Always on the lookout for the right issue in the right grade at the right price. If you ever decide to divest yourself of those great ST issues you have, give me a shout first;-)
  11. "The Hidden Head"? Something special there? Lots of pre-hero ones that are good, e.g. 76, 80, 86. As for the less-than-stellar covers, I would like to suggest 138. Also, what's the interest in 116? 114 is nice, but I've never been much of a fan of 116. Fun to compare notes.
  12. Curious which covers you all find the best among ST 101-168. My personal three faves are 107, 146, and 167. If I had to narrow it down to 1, I would have to pick 167. Other opinions?
  13. I thought I read somewhere that not all Curator's were in the market. The original collector still had many. Is this true?
  14. Here's three more, from the Dr. Strange Cover collection, all in 9.6.
  15. My goal was to assemble a 9.0 or better ST run, so when I saw it (103) available, I just had to grab it. I figured the 9.4 and 9.6 were totally unavailable. Would be fun to know who has the 9.2 copy, and whether it is a pedigree. Anyone know?
  16. I've been wondering about the ST pedigrees. The PC, WP, and Mass look really fantastic. Then it looks like the Boston copies show up around the late 130's? What is the highest quality pedigree for the Nick Fury ST's? Pacific Coast? WP? Are there a lot of Fury WP's? If so, who has them? Also, are there Curators? I've only seen the 125 copy in 9.6. Thanks for any info
  17. I second the motion. I'd love to have a 9.6 copy of ST #167;-) btw, how did you manage to get all 4 images? One is yours and one must be Filosa's old copy. What about the other two?
  18. Here's three more, from the Dr. Strange cover collection. ST146(Western Penn), ST148, and ST150(Boston) all in 9.6.
  19. Here are some from my collection. ST100 is 8.5, ST103 is 9.0 and ST104 is 9.2
  20. Thanks, I've been lurking for a long time, but for a thread like this, I just had to chip in. Been a long-time Dr. Strange fan, especially the 126-127 pair.
  21. Doug, those are outstanding! Is there any history behind the 103 and 108? Non-pedigreed, but outstanding quality. Thanks
