Up for sale tonight…a small stack of original-owner Golden Age comics and Big Little Books, all offered for sale at a single lot price. I'm selling these on behalf of a close friend. Everything in this thread belonged to his father-in-law, who passed away last year, and who bought all of them, straight off the rack, during his childhood. These books have been in family storage for a very long time, and are guaranteed to be unrestored. All books are 100% complete and readable with very good paper quality (NO brittleness). Any defects not visible in the scans are noted in the descriptions below. ----------------------------------- TERMS: • in the thread rules. • PayPal ONLY for this sale. • No HOS'ers/probies/etc. • Payment is due within 2 days of closing the deal unless we've made other arrangements. DOMESTIC US SHIPPING (fully insured Priority Mail w/extremely secure packaging): • FREE for a flat rate USPS Priority Mail BOX. • NOTE: I am sometimes able to ship the same day that payment is received, but usually no later than one day after payment is received. ***VERY IMPORTANT NOTE -- US shipping only, very sorry!*** RETURNS: • Shouldn't be necessary, but…I'm reasonable -- if there's a problem of ANY kind, please PM me and we WILL work it out to your satisfaction. Need larger scans? Detail pics? Interior pics? More info? Please feel free to PM me. Finally, my feedback thread is located here (under my old username, but it's still me): My Feedback Thread...

Which comic book character would you want to be for life?

The day after the day after the Martians came.

"Temple of the Spider" by Archie Goodwin and Walt Simonson (Thrilling Adventures Stories #2 -- Atlas; August, 1975) -
Not promoting anything. Like I said--and as the reviews I linked demonstrate--this stuff clearly isn't everyone's cuppa, and I very much understand why: Neal's (ahem...) dialogue and "plotting" are acquired tastes, at best. And his art--while still unmistakably HIM--is not of the same stripe as the stuff he was producing during his heyday in the '70s. And yet, I keep coming back for more, and remain amazed by the overall quality of Adams' design work, page layouts, and artwork in general. Plus, the guy will turn 77 this year...that's got to make him one of the oldest living legends (if not THE oldest) still actively producing mainstream comics for major publishers, and I applaud DC in particular for keeping these doors open to his work, warts and all...

...and just I can't get enough of them! Yeah, yeah...I know: just about everyone hates these: • BATMAN ODYSSEY (2012) • SUPERMAN: THE COMING OF THE SUPERMEN (2016) and, currently still in progress... • DEADMAN But I think they're a hoot...by turns imaginative, incomprehensible, inspired, and incoherent. Grant Morrison only wishes he could be this authentically weird!!! And despite some odd facial contortions--which to me are just part of the fun!--these books are also masterfully laid-out and drawn, albeit in Adams' rougher, post-modern style. This is clearly not to everyone's taste, and yet the man's work as he approaches 80 years of age has lost none of its power or verve. Amazing! Anyway, I'm not plugged into the whole modern scene at all, so what I'd like to know is...have I missed anything? That is, has Adams done any other mainstream superhero work like this (during the past 10 years I mean)--single issues or mini-series--where he both writes and draws? Thanks!

I'd say there's very little doubt about that. The USPS would need to obtain a search warrant to open a First Class letter or parcel: SOURCE: https://postalinspectors.uspis.gov/contactUs/faq.aspx

That sounds odd to me. If duct tape is disallowed, the package should have been refused at the service counter...

The day after the day after the Martians came.
jools&jim replied to NoMan's topic in Bronze Age Comic Books
There are lots of hidden gems out there, especially outside of the superhero genre. And what's even better is that, unlike the "keys", there is no mass hysteria driving up the prices, and the stories and art are often far superior as well. Happy hunting! -

jools&jim replied to NoMan's topic in Bronze Age Comic Books
Amen to that! Here's another one for ya: try the so-called "back-up" story in Our Fighting Forces #146...a legendary masterwork of comic art, buried in the back of a 20-cent newsstand comic book! Also check out Warren's slightly goofy The Rook magazine (#3 & #4 from 1980) for another buried masterpiece by the same artist... -

Actually reading the mountains of old comic books we accumulate/collect = ... -
And so it is -- thanks man! That's what I get for not taking the book out of the bag -- the cert wasn't behind the book/board, but was actually tucked inside the front cover. Thanks again!

So I finally got around to reading my DD Miller run.........
jools&jim replied to Brian48's topic in Comics General
Looks like a real-deal, old-school Miller sig to me! Here's my signed copy of 168, formerly owned by Tony Isabella... -
Great Christmastime thread! I don't think I ever owned any of the complete sets, but I do still have my OO EK "bendy" figure from that same era...not complete, and a little the worse for wear, but he's the real deal!

What does the "S" on Jugheads shirt stand for...

Here's one credible take on it: Read the whole thing here... http://ew.com/article/1991/11/08/archie-comics-turn-50/ -
All good...the mosaics are very, very cool. Thanks for the pics.
-
So...the big pieces in your pics are actual hand-made (tile? glass?) mosaics, which are then photo-reduced and published by Marvel as variant covers? If that's the case, neither your original post nor your website descriptions are terribly clear on that point, which might account for some of the snark here...
-
Hey all...found this recently in a collection I bought. The sig looks legit as far as I can tell, but it's also numbered (97/1500), so I'm guessing it came from a re-seller who contracted with Adams? Clueless about this area of the hobby, so any help as to authenticity and/or who offered this would be very much appreciated. Thanks!
