  1. I agree, and posted a similar response yesterday...
  2. I'm not a general con-goer these days, nor much of one at all, given that I only attend one per year (which I skipped this year). So feel free to ignore me...I would! That said...when I was a lot more active back in the '80s and '90s, this sort of thing (i.e., raffles or other promotional stunts) would make me steer clear of a booth completely: too carnival like, I suppose, and there is a whiff of desperation about this as a selling tactic which would scare me off, or make me dismiss the dealer as being somehow less than professional. The other thing to consider is that when it's time to pick the winner, you're going to have a crowd around your booth which could block the aisles, and may spill over into your neighbors' space as well. This, as you can imagine, may not sit well with the promoter and the other dealers in your vicinity.
  3. The book shown in that eBay listing is (obviously) not... No mention in the listing that it's a 1986 reprint, either. What the hell is wrong with people? Do they really think no-one will notice?
  4. Mighty Midget Comics "Ibis the Invincible" #11 (Fawcett, 1942): This is a 4" x 5" two-color mini comic (dated 1942 in the indicia), with the same full-color cover image (by the legendary Mac Raboy) as Fawcett's full-sized Ibis #1. According to Overstreet, the full-sized Ibis #1 was on sale in very early 1943. Some sources claim that this mini-comic pre-dates the full-sized issue, but what seems much more likely to me is that both versions (the "regular" comic book and this tiny "variant") were released more-or-less simultaneously. This mini-comic version contains 36 pages (counting both covers), no ads, and features the Ibis origin story along with two other Ibis stories reprinted from Whiz Comics 30 & 31. Think of it as a VERY early example of the "digest" comics which would become much more common during the '60s and '70s. NOTE: All of the Fawcett "Mighty Midget" comics were numbered as either "11" or "12", with the 11s (like this one) released in a boxed set which also contained miniature puzzle books, coloring books, and paper dolls, etc. These "11s" are also easily identified by the War Bond seal on the back cover, which is otherwise blank (see scans below). But, no matter how you slice it, this is a cool peak-period GA Fawcett book--and in a quirky format, too--for very light $$! G/VG -- 1.25" tear two-thirds of the way down the rhs of the front cover (not completely visible in the scan); inexplicable "1945" date stamps on one interior page (see pic below). Very solid otherwise. $25 shipped, insured, and securely packaged in a fresh Mylar via USPS Priority Mail.

  9. Low Grade '60s DC Hero Lot: These are all pretty rough. 11. Adam is a first-rate buyer -- fast pay, no hassles, keeps in touch via PM. Outstanding -- thanks man!!!
  12. Mixed 1950s/Early 1960s DC-Dell-Archie Humor Comics Lot: Here's what you get (see scans below)... • Adventures of Bob Hope #39 (DC, 1956): GGA cover? Sure, why not?!? From what I've read, ol' Bob dearly loved the ladies... Here's another fun fact: this title ran for 18 years or so…109 issues in all. I'd like to see a modern "humor" book dedicated to a balding, middle-aged comedian hit that mark! Date-stamp on front cover. A very solid copy for a 61 year-old comic book. VG/Fine. • Cosmo the Merry Martian #2 (Archie, 1959): Not a super easy book to find, and as all "contemporary classic" Archie readers know, Cosmo is Fernando Ruiz's favorite character: http://fernandoruizeverybody.com/cosmo-the-merry-martian/ Some staple rust with very slight migration at the centerfold; some light staining to two small areas along the top edge and rhs of the back cover. Tough book, 100% complete. G/VG. • Dell Giant Marge's Lulu and Tubby Halloween Fun #6 (Dell, 1957): Classic work from John Stanley and Irving Tripp -- 15 interior stories/gag pages! You got a lot of mileage for your 25-cents back in them days, youngsters! 100% complete. Puzzles on the inside front and inside back covers have been completed in pencil. Small, ancient tape repairs to the inside front and inside back covers. 1.5" triangular piece missing (upper lhc) from the back cover. Fair. • Dell Four Color #318 - Donald Duck in "No Such Varmint" (Dell, 1951): Essential comics reading from Carl Barks, one of the TRUE old masters. Very rough, but 100% complete. Cover is completely detached from both staples but still in one piece (though just barely, due to large segments of the spine missing); centerfold loose; pencil writing on front cover and in the margin of the last page; multiple tears/bends/folds, etc., etc. It ain't a beauty, bit it IS the real thing, which has to count for something! Fair-. • Sugar and Spike #39 (DC, 1962): The legendary Sheldon Mayer at his SA best. 100% complete -- no cut-outs clipped or missing. Good-. ======================================================= 5 comics total for... $40 + $7 for boxed Priority Mail shipping... =======================================================

  14. Wow...Fred MacMurray as Captain Marvel -- just as CC Beck intended it...brilliant! It's all big, bold, and colorful, too -- everything that many modern, dun-colored superhero comics are not. Your work is...well, for lack of a better term, "Bolshevikian" -- revolutionarily retro in the best sense of the word! Please keep it up -- if I saw a book that looked like this on the shelf at my LCS, I'd subscribe immediately!
  15. Weekend finds. Nothing spectacular, obviously, but it didn't cost me much. So I've got that going for me...which is nice. My keepers from this haul are the Marvel UK pence variants (not super common on this side of the big pond); the 3-issue New Teen Titans/Doom Patrol run; the (borderline) HG Forever People 10; and a few others as lazy Sunday afternoon readers. I was actually most happy to find a nice, chunky stack of late '70s issues of Superman, many of which are in very nice shape (see the scanned example). Nobody really gives a toss about Supes comics from that era, I know. But the run which was more-or-less concurrent with the first Superman movie is a sentimental favorite of mine, and the Adams covers, plus the frequent Garcia-Lopez covers and occasional interiors, are aces all around. And to my retrograde aesthetic at least, the stories hold up A LOT better than you might remember... PS: Laurie Partridge ruined me when it comes to blondes. Pathetic, but true!!!
