It's the old saying that the ultimate value of something is what you're willing to pay. In my case, I bought a CGC 5.0 pre-Sandman Adventure off Comiclink for $700. The OSPG lists 4.0 at $400 & 6.0 at $600. However, the copy I bought is the highest-graded unrestored copy & since early Adventures seem to keep rising in value, I really don't feel like I overpaid.
I've never used GPA & really don't have any interest in it. I know what I'm willing to pay for a book despite what the Guide or GPA says. As far as selling, I know what I want to get for a book. If no one is willing to pay that much, I simply keep it. It helps that I'm a collector & not a dealer. I love comics; I don't need to make money on them.

Thank you for the posts bat_fan, steel, and Bill, and others - much appreciated.
FYI, West at CGC has just notified me that the Adventure 60 I sincerely believed had some minor resto (gloss and seal) was resubmitted and came back Blue. I believe in full disclosure whether I'm right or I'm wrong, and in this particular instance, CGC says I was in error.
My apologies to Dave for including this book in the rest of the discussion.

How much do you want for it?

I've only bought 1 book off Comiclink and it was probably overpriced. I kept making offers that got declined (up to $15 less than the asking price), but the book isn't an easy find & I was willing to pay for it, so I can't complain.
But I do agree that with consignment books, the owners tend to overprice. Maybe they're trying to recoup the commission that the dealer charges???

Any chance we can see a good pic of your Action #1? I'm not interested in debating whether it's been restored or not (I really don't care); but many people would love to see this important piece of comicdom!

I posted this in the "This week in your collection" thread a few weeks ago when I got it, but I just discovered this thread & this is the best place for it. Thanks again to The Beyonder!

I must agree with my fellow forumites...Adventure 39, hands down!
-
Sounds easy enough!

That's a cool cover. I've never heard of a GL ashcan yet, but who knows.....?
-
Sweet - I've never seen that one before.

Last year on Ebay if I'm not mistaken. I sent it to PGX and it came back as a 5.5 - CGC has only graded one copy & it was a 4.0. I love those jungle covers!

Another ashcan arrived today. It's amazing how many use the cover art from Boy Commandos #1. The guys at DC must have absolutely loved that cover. Although the fact that it's by Simon & Kirby makes that pretty easy!!!

Mr. Zaid is going to be sad.....
He's got a nice collection - nothing to be sad about.

Kudos to Moondog for adding to my ashcan collection!!! Gary's a great guy & a wealth of information. (Thanks for not getting irritated by all my questions!)

These beauties arrived today. A nice addition to my ashcan collection.

I absolutely love the Adventure/New Adventure books, but I'd never pay that much for that book. I'd love to see the sucker (I mean lucky guy) who pays that much!
-
And this is just a pure classic in my book!
I think that's the worst cover I've ever seen, although it's a great addition to this thread!

I have a couple of more books I have bids on and then im done till after Christmas
I can't tell you how many times I've said that! Unfortunately something always comes along that I can't live without.

Kudos to THE_BEYONDER for a nice ASM #1:

Much thanks to THE_BEYONDER for the newest addition to my collection:
-
$420 is a good price, I was going to say around $500.

I believe Moondog owns those two. They appear in his CBM #71 article about the DC ashcans, but I haven't seen him post scans here. Get that issue, it's worth it.

Thanks! Actually, after seeing what his went for, maybe mine wasn't too bad after all. There was also a copy for around $180 on Ebay without a back cover, but I see that it's gone now, so I'm happy just to have a copy.

Kudos to MikeS for the Dark Knight Archives. He refunded some money when the book arrived with a little damage (even after I told him it wasn't necessary). Thanks Mike - let's do another deal soon!
