I recently saw the 1st appearance of predator on sale for $15 buy it now. It looked like a 9.0/9.2 so I scooped it up. Then I realized, the listing didn't specify if was a 1st or 2nd print so I was kicking myself but when it came in it was a 1st print.

Detective Comics 27 would be my "if I won the lottery, I'd get it" grail. GSX 1 is my lesser grail that is quickly becoming unobtainable.

How should I spend $3,000?
Hairless Wookiee replied to Hairless Wookiee's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
Update: So I ended up pulling the trigger on Hulk 181 4.5 green label (missing the value stamp)for $2,000. I wanted to hold out for the blue label but even a 2.5 was getting up there in price. I found the stamp separately on ebay for $20 so I got it too. I'll end up putting it in a card holder and displaying them together. -
I found these gems at a local vintage toy store that has a small comic book section. They were a dollar each, except the Thor book was $3.

How should I spend $3,000?
Hairless Wookiee replied to Hairless Wookiee's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
That's good advise. This is for my own collection so I'll probably just hold off on grading a ton of books. I figure if I don't grab the bigger books I'll probably regret it later on. -
I have a 1st world problem that maybe you guys could help me with. I've saved up $3,000 to spend on comics and I'm not sure which direction to go. I've been collecting mostly X-Men and Wolverine comics the past couple of years. To date I have Uncanny X-men 116-325 (just missing 120 & 121). So here are the options I'm considering: Use $1,000 to have some books graded and pick up some keys I don't have like a mid-grade x-men 94 & 101, then I'd love to get a copy of New Mutants 98 and Hulk 340. Then use whatever's left to pick up x-men 120 & 121. Or should I just go all in for a low grade copy of Hulk 181 or GSX 1 I know as x-men get introduced into the MCU a lot of these books are going to get crazy expensive and probably out of my price range. I'd love some advise.

This book has seen better days. Someone used a thumbtack or something to pin it to a wall at some point so there's a piercing that goes all the way through it at it the top.

Pressing Thicker Comics
Hairless Wookiee replied to Hairless Wookiee's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
That's a good point. I hadn't considered the hologram. I'll probably just hold off since I don't think the book would get more than a 9.6 anyways. -
Hello, I was wondering if it's a bad idea to submit thicker books for pressing. Specifically I'm thinking of submitting Amazing Spider-Man 365 which is a really thick book. It's in really good condition but has some non-color breaking bends near the spine. I've heard that pressing doesn't work that well for books that size. I'd like to know what thoughts you guys have on the matter.

I purchased a book that was VF from an LCS but upon closer inspection I can see that someone used a thumbtack to pin it to wall at some point because the book has a small piercing that goes all the way through it on the top. My question is how badly would that affect the grade if there is a pin sized hole on every page and both covers. The book otherwise would be a VF. Thank you!
