  1. When I was a brand spanking newb I posted a PGM asking to assess more than one too. You could post each of the 3 separately or go to the other forum as previously suggested. This is the way....
  2. Can't remember the name of it, but I don't think there are Mile High stores in my part of the world. It would explain it though. I'm always shocked by how much they try to sell books for on their website
  3. As a kid my version of spec'ing was buying 1 extra copy On one occasion I was on holidays & I visited a regional LCS where they had a Wolverine #14 up on the wall with a $60 price tag I already owned one so I knew it wasn't a key and I was perplexed about why they were selling it for so much. Was it a signed copy? When I asked about it the owner said that's just what it's worth. To this day I still wonder if he was trying to rip peeps off or made a mistake. Maybe he mixed it up with 8? Long story short I bought another copy for a couple of bucks somewhere else and well it's still a dollar bin book....
  4. Scored this Mutant Massacre bundle for a bargain price! Started collecting X-men as a kid after this legendary copper age event and they weren't easy to find back then. Even though a few are mid grade I'm happy to finally have them
  5. Great pick up Adamantium! Neil Adam's gets all the love, but early Copper age Batman artists who followed him like Gene Colan, Don Newton etc.. were great too. (I'm not a fan of Jim Aparo so let's not go there )
  6. Thanks guys. I can honestly say this thread has given me an appreciation of Momoko's art. Previously I'd only seen covers that looked like sketches with light, almost school pencil colouring.
  7. Picked this up last week. On the first page of eBay listings, direct copies of ASM265 out number news stands by nearly 3 to 1. Just saying
  8. All the way from the US of A. This arrived today First Silver Sable. This is the first time I've purchased a comic through eBay outside of Australia. I stumbled on an auction where the bidding was still low with only a couple of minutes to go. I quickly did the math and even taking into account the big shipping charges I'd still be saving more than $20+ AUD compared to the cheapest listing down under. No sure what to go after now. I'd like to add some bigger keys to my PC but I don't want to get into trouble with the missus Maybe complete some runs by creative teams I like...
  9. With all due respect to the Jackal, isn't it the fact that it's the Punisher's first appearance that makes it massive key?
  10. By short supply I meant there are less listings than a few months ago based on my searches.
  11. While some grails are plateauing or declining in value, from what I can see affordable keys are in short supply and increasing in value eg. UXM 244, 282 & ASM 265, 294
  12. Beautiful raw copies - you did well! I'm waiting on a news stand ASM 265 - first appearance of Silver Sable. It's coming from the US so it'll be a while
  13. In my opinion back cover defects should reduce the grade less than front cover ones. Unfortunately CGC grades them as equally significant from what I've seen
  14. Across the internet there are people who care enough to join a discussion to ask why does anyone care about the discussion. The irony of this never ceases to amaze me. Opinions have actually shifted things. The annual has significantly increased in value and CGC has noted it predates 266.
  15. Tape is such a menace to the condition of comics! It's so easy to accidently let it touch a cover then it's game over for a NM grade. I remember tracing over some art too. The silliest thing I did as a kid though, which I haven't mentioned in this thread before, was putting a sticker over a news stand price written on an Uncanny X-men 109 (first Weapon Alpha) because I thought it would improve it.
  16. Someone just posted an Usagi Yojimbo #1 in the PGM thread triggering a little PTSD at losing my copy I'm 99% joking
  17. Sergio Aragone brought so much laughter and fun with his comic creations, particularly Groo (& Rufferto his trusty canine pal) through out the copper age. He was truly a cartoon comedy genius
  18. Somehow I missed the most important issue of what remains one of the best Spider-Man story arcs ever. Today that changed...
  19. Great timing with the recent Grendel Netflix announcement! Even as a collector/reader it's still cool when your books increase in value
  20. Thanks for the heads up. I still thought the historical overview was informative. News stand bar code variants are scarcer, particularly in high grade, compared to Direct copies. They have to survive a rough journey. Considering how Mark Jewellers insert 'variants' sell for a lot more than standard issues, I think selling news stands for a higher price is justified to a limited degree. Not multiple times higher like Chuck does though
  21. My Omega Men #3 first appearance of Lobo arrived! Just for fun I'm including my existing copy of Lobo #1 I've had since I was a kid. It was Bisley's intense art that drew me in initially, but then I got hooked on the galactic black comedy and over the top violence of this bounty hunting anti hero. (One of the annoying things about being Australian collector is that news stands used to write AUD prices on the covers..)
  22. Read any description of the Copper Age of comics and it is characterised as a period with a dark, serious, gritty style with examples such as Frank Millers’ Dark Knight Returns. While there was plenty of that, there were also a lot of light hearted books. Post your favourites here… Paging Groo! 😊 Here’s a couple of others I loved…. Excalibur Justice League America/International
  23. This mile high comics article linked below on news stand editions gives an interesting perspective. Apologises if it's been posted before. It would also explain why high grade ASM 300 new stand editions are rare for example: https://www.milehighcomics.com/newsletter/031513.html While they started towards the end of the bronze age, and were phased out in the modern era, they were most prevalent during the copper age.
