Moderns that are heating up on ebay!
HotKey replied to thirdgreenham's topic in Modern Age Comic Books
Good idea: tweeting out to your comic fans Bad idea: tweeting out to your comic fans that you refuse to ever talk to them -
A bit off topic but MAN when are we going to stop letting businesses keep our money all these extra days because of "business days", especially when it's usually automated transactions done by computer which run 24/7 anyways and do not require any human interaction to process? If you can take my money in 30 seconds, I should be able to get it in 30 seconds. Same computers, same banks, same internet. It made sense back in the day, and still does in some cases like CGC not being in the office, but in payment cases this "industry standard" is very outdated and it feels like they keep doing it just because they can. /endrant

I'm not too familiar with Image overall outside of Spawn, but there is a wall of probably 5k raw, unbagged Image comics at a local bookstore. I have no idea what to look for though, is there a list of the top 10/20 rarest obscure Image issues?

CGC COMIC BOOK FORM MEMBERS HALL OF FAME: PLEASE NOMINATE WITH EXPLANATION
HotKey replied to Mmehdy's topic in Comics General
Yeah I wasn't meaning to imply that there should never be a permanent ban for anyone. Committing criminal acts or fraudulent acts are a different animal. My path to redemption statement wouldn't apply to anyone who committed an act that would be considered criminal or fraudulent. -
CGC COMIC BOOK FORM MEMBERS HALL OF FAME: PLEASE NOMINATE WITH EXPLANATION
HotKey replied to Mmehdy's topic in Comics General
I haven't been here long but I agree that permanent banning users on forums designed to communicate and share information with no clearly defined "path to redemption" seems heavy handed and not in the spirit of good debate among opposing views who may disagree. I'll second it if I can. -

Just got my first order from him today, I was not expecting him to use packing tape inside geminis. ☹ -
Marvel Comic Cards from the 1990's exploding?
HotKey replied to spidermanbeyond's topic in Comics General

It happened to sports cards in the 90s too.

The best part of that is having a lcs that doesn't keep up much on the day to day changes and keeps prices marked for the most part. Pulling multiple easy $20+ copies out of the dollar boxes every month or so is a blast!

I don't think it is a bad thing, it is just that what used to be a very small niche category, the non comic fan investor, has grown into an exponentially larger mainstay category and is much more front and center with their business, with a much larger share of the market than ever before. Some of those treat the industry very callously and indifferent because they are only here on business. I don't think it is a sign that the very much larger main category of comic collectors who ARE fans is threatened though, although a few may see it as a sign to get out and will. The industry will learn to adapt and grow with this new group having a much larger seat at the table, but the industry itself will be just fine imo.

I was talking to a friend yesterday who doesn't collect comics or anything related and mentioned the hulk 181 card selling for 4k and his face lit up. He went to his closet and came back with 3 shoeboxes full of 90s comic cards he said he got back then for fun. None of the current hot ones were in the boxes, but if he had cards like that as a non collector, it is not a good sign for the long term values of the market for comic book cards.

Oh man the memories of that card hitting the market and Beckett listing it... good times! I wonder if 10s of that card are going to heat up... -
Marvel Comic Cards from the 1990's exploding?

I forgot I found this album in the bottom of a cardboard box of comics I bought last month, I nearly threw it away. Am I rich now??! 🤣 I'll let this whole album go for ONLY 5 grand! No fighting over dibs! -

I was reading the Mile High story and it got me wondering, just how many collections are out there worth 7 figures or more? I couldn't find anything aside from articles on specific big collections, no large data sets. If I had to guess I would put it at less than a couple thousand though. A million bucks is 1,000 books worth $1,000 each, that is no small feat!

How long until CGC uses the Vince McMahon model and buys out 1 or 2 of the competitors to beef up their grading staff?

I've been using Mercari now for a few months and I really like it. They require payment from the buyer before they can buy and I haven't had any issues with returns in over 50 sales. It shows over 10 mil downloads in Google store so it has a base. It pays you immediately after the buyer rates you or 3 days after delivery, whichever is first. It has shipping deals with the usps, ups and FedEx and makes shipping easier and cheaper. Heres my link that gives us both some money off: Mercari link - $30 bonus

I'm switched over and I got my payment the day after tracking was entered.

I would think that they are really missing the boat in Batman and Superman labels.

Stopped in mine earlier today to check and they still had at least a dozen main covers and even a couple variant covers still on the shelf.
