  1. Hey,

I wanted to submit some of my new modern books for grading. To be honest, the book are new and NM/M. However, the front covers are a bit wavy (due to manufacturing) and I don't know if it will impact the grade.

Thus, I thought that I will add a Press screening to see if they would benefit or not from this service.

I am just wandering how this is going to be billed to me ?

If the books can benefit from pressing, then CGC will bill both screening and pressing services ? Or will they bill only the pressing service ?

In addition, if the books cannot benefit from pressing, will CGC bill only the screening service ?

Thank you for your help with this !

Think of how many more comics he could buy if he wasn't paying for slabbing

As I was saying, it’s a hobby and I love that. I planned my budget for that and I am always so happy to receive my comics from CGC.

Of course, I would be much happier if it would be cheaper. But we can’t have everything -_-

I am a UK-based collector too, and have spent MILLIONS on shipping fees to/fro the US over the years (well, probably not 000,000s in fact, but often it feels like it). I think the commercial opportunity to grade comics in the UK is one that CGC should look at. I know I would use it, and know others too who are sick of inflated postage charges and slow (or lost) deliveries.

Without any doubt! Every European CGC member will use this service. Personally, I would submit way more often just because I would save so much on shipping.

I mean, every submission I do to CGC Florida cost me between 250-500$ because of shipping (minimum 130$)

It’s a very expensive hobby :ohnoez:

  4. Hey guys,

I recently submitted a book to get it signed, pressed and graded. Thus, I checked the CGC turnaround times for SigSeries and I have to say that I am a bit confused.

The current turnaround time for Modern is 34 days. I think that it is difficult to understand what does the 34 days include.

Is it only for signing ? If yes, does it means that, once signed, my comic will take another 86 days for pressing + 33 days for grading ?

Or, does the 34 days include both signing + grading (without pressing) ? Or does it include all 3 of them ?

Thank you for your help with this !

  5. Hi,

I have upgraded to a Prenium membership. However, when preparing a new online submission, I realized that the price did not change from my associate membership (18$ per book).

I have empty my cart, close the page and start again, but the discount still not applies.

Does the 10% will apply at a later stage ? Or is something wrong ?

Thank you for your help !

But wait!  There’s more!  I believe the clock doesn’t start counting until they are in a received status at CGC.  From the time your books are delivered in Sarasota to the time they get marked as “received”, it can be about two weeks.

Yea I saw that... They received my submission 2 weeks ago and they only updated it as “received” today...

And because I send them from Switzerland, it took 2 weeks for them to arrived... So, its been already 1 month lol

Well, I am a bit disappointed by the turnaround times as it means that I will not see my comics for an addition 3-4 months...

Anyway, nothing we can do about that haha

Thanks for your answer guys !

  7. Hey everyone,

I have made my first CGC submission for both pressing & grading.

I was wondering how the turnaround time was working.

    Currently, the turnaround are:

    Modern grading : 33 days

    Modern pressing : 86 days

Does it means that my comics will take around 86 days to get pressed, then, 33 additional days to get graded (109 days in total) ?

If yes, it seems like I will not see my comics for a very long time..

    Thanks for your help !

  8. Hi everyone,

I have recently bought a CGC graded comic. Unfortunately, it was poorly protected and the back of the CGC case arrived damaged.

My question is : Can I submit it to a re-hold service ? Or is it too damaged and will need to be graded again.

    Thank you for your answer.

You should value your book as if it's going to be destroyed by your mail carrier. How much would you be happy receiving for your comic in an insurance settlement?

    As much as possible 😄

So, assuming what you are saying, I should declared the value of a graded comic rather a raw one.

  10. Hey guys,

How do you value your comics when preparing your submission?

I mean, do we need to put its value as “raw” or do we need to estimate the value it will get once graded ?

I find it difficult to determine as the value of some comics can be so different between one grade to another...

Also, the value of a comic can be so different between raw to graded..

I just bought a comic for 50$, which as a potential for a 9.8. If it gets a 9.8, it will be worth around $260. Thus, which amount should I declared in my submission ?

    Thanks for your help !

It would be nice for the denizens of Londonville, but I can't see it ever happening as then you would have two CGC grading camps which the public could then compare. Imagine if the perception grew, rightly or wrongly, that one side was less strict than the other...

You are so right. I didn’t think about that. It will happen for sure haha.

Well, I guess I’ll have to keep sending my comics to Florida then 😅

There’s probably some very individual specific math someone needs to do based on their own situation to decide if London or Florida direct makes more sense

I did the math and I can tell you that it is more worth it (for me at least) to send directly to Florida than London.

A shame that we have a London office that does not grade comics... I hope CGC will change that one day.

Hello Jeremy and welcome to the CGC boards :)

I think you will stand a greater chance of getting a reply from CGC staff if you post your question here, in the "Ask CGC" forum:

    https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/forum/23-ask-cgc/

Unfortunately, CGC have set up three different questions forums on the boards:

    1. The one we are in now, which is for comic related questions (which is the first appearance of Batman, that kind of thing)
    2. The 'Ask CGC' one which is where your procedural / submission type of question best sits
    3. And a site technical one which you will find at the foot of the main page

I have suggested behind the scenes that a more simplified set up would help as we often see questions being asked in the wrong place which then do not get answered as a result. That's not your fault - with three Q&A forums, one at the top, one at the bottom and one in the middle, its easy to miss them, especially if you are new.

I've flagged @Jennifer F. who is one of the admin team whose role includes responding to your type of question and maybe she will pick it up from here. You can also telephone CGC and discuss it with them as sometimes that is easier than an email dialogue, especially when there are follow up questions - the contact numbers can be found here:

    https://www.cgccomics.com/contact/

    Good luck!

    @Brittany M.

Thanks for letting me inow 😊

  14. Hey guys,

I am living in Switzerland and I was planning to submit some comics to CGC Florida. However, I realized that the shipping cost for the submission were WAY too expensive.

Thus, I have contacted the London office and ask them if it was possible to submit the comics to them directly in order to lower the shipping cost.

I was happy to read that they indeed accept to do so. You only need to select "drop-off to London office" when doing your submission, but still send it by mail. You then need to arrange a courier for the return as soon as your comics have been graded.

So I decided to start a new submission for the London office. However, I quickly realized that the price to submit to the London office are MUCH higher...

As an example, for a 8 comics submission (pressing + grading), the cost to send it to Florida was 245$ (without shipping). But when doing the exact same submission for the London office (same books, grading + pressing), the cost was 307£, which is around 407$... The price almost doubled...

Am I the only one to think that it is ridiculous... At the end, it is way more expensive to submit your book through London, even with lower shipping costs...

Anyone knows what is the deal with that ?

    Thank !

What do I know?...you get what you pay for...haha

I've had books with a 2 inch creases/defect similar to this come back at 8.0

Can you get a closer pic of the area?

My other picturees are not clearer.

but to be honest, the scratch you can see on the picture appears excatly like that on the book. It’s really small and difficult to notice if you don’t check it closely.

  16. 37 minutes ago, Funnybooks said:

Hard to tell from pic...is that a true scratch or could it possibly be a printing/manufacturing defect?

If its a scratch, an approximate 1-2 inch defect would immediately take this book down to between a 7.5- 8.0 imo

A printing defect would be much less impactful

Damn, I didn’t expect that it would impact so much the grade 😫

I hope this is a printing defect. Is there a way for me to know which one is it ?

    thanks !

correct, the book gets signed first and then pressed (followed by grading and encapsulation)

are there risks? yes, there are risks for everything but given that CGC/CCS have been doing this for some time I would gather they are confident in their ability to press without issues of the added ink

good luck with your submissions, the SS is a nice service they are running while conventions aren't happening and I look forward to some new announcements and some return signers I missed as Brittany previously had said, most of the talent that did a signing with them before had committed to returning for a follow up event

    Thank you for your answer!

yes it’s my first sigs submission and I am looking forward for more.
