Well you hadn't really put it up for sale so it was a joke but I would be interested. I can't afford a big dollar book at the moment but I could stretch to some smaller stuff..

It was one of my "learning the CGC ropes" mistakes. It was one of a group of books I sent to CGC in 2007 not long after I got back into collecting. I seriously thought it would get a 9.4. I know better now... I think. I think I could get $35 or $40 for it. Considering what I paid for the raw book and the slabbing, at least I won't lose anything on it.

Must try to scrape together enough money for a # 52 slabbed at 9.0.

I don't know Phil that well but we've chatted occasionally. I hope things have gone well for them and if they have he may just be suffering from the lack of sleep that new babies bring.

I miss the dynamic of having a giant on the cover. Giant Man/Goliath towering over the other Avengers always gave a dramatic edge.

But what would have been the incentive of the fellow in the newspaper to lie, given that it was a topic that no one really cared much about in the early 1970s? I guess it made a bit more dramatic sounding story.

It was one way of fitting all those characters that he wanted to put on the cover in for the landmark issue, with out making the cover seem too busy and overcrowded.

Good research Andrew, interesting info. (thumbs u I never get around to looking through stuff in depth very often. Interesting to see that the paterns between Avengers, X Men & DD are very similar. Now how about updating your post with the GPA average prices of each one.
