  1. I'm so despondent you gang won't let me be an honourary secret PM member....

    :(

I wouldn't feel down about it. It was simply a UK based sales PM for those of us who wanted to buy and sell books without the huge import costs associated with buying from US sellers.

The truth is that hardly anything has actually been listed in the last few months so to all intents and purposes it's dead.

In the last month, I've listed over 140 TPB's/graphic novels, over 80 comic sets, over 300 raw books and one slab. What do I have to do to make it not dead? :sorry:

We told you that trying to off-load all your carpy DC would be the death of that PM. We were not wrong.

    :cry::cry:

Actually, thinking about it, Silver Age DC was the only thing to sell out of everything I listed. hm

  5. Why is it #1, instead of #32? Because Quasar #32 already existed as a separate publication. And they couldn't just solicit "Quasar #32" to newsstand dealers, because it was a DIRECT ONLY title, and the #32 would have confused vendors. Because of mail restrictions, they couldn't just take a Direct only title and issue a random issue (or three) to the newsstand, just because they may have wanted to. Once you go Direct only, you can't go back (at least, not easily.)

So, they named it "Quasar Special", and since it was the first issue...they called it #1.

They *could* have named it "Quasar Special #32", but that would also have confused newsstand vendors who did NOT follow this type of stuff. A first issue of a title they were not carrying already made much more sense.

I'm assuming that Quasar Special is officially a reprint, do you know if that's accurate? I know it's listed as being issued on the same month as # 32.

  6. This is what someone on the Marvel Masterworks forum had to say about it and it makes as much sense as any other explanation to me.

"At the time of Operation Galactic Storm, nearly all of the titles were available on the newsstand. Quasar, however, was not. So Marvel put out the OGS issues of Quasar for the newsstand. Presumably to make them more attractive to the newsstand retailers, they wanted to number the issues starting with #1 instead of #32. So they marked the newsstand version as #1 and called it "Quasar Special" or some such in the solicits for the returnable market. I don't know if the indicia was different between the two versions or not, it's entirely possible that they were the same. (I got my copies from the direct market at the time.)"

  7. So I would like to start up a website, and have no experience. What do I need to know , advice, etcetera. Give me some help folks!

My advice would be to pay someone to do it for you. I started building one for myself without being very good with computers and it was just losing me too much time which I could've been spending on my business so I gave up on it. When I get around to my next attempt, I'll just get someone to d it for me.

  8. I bought another pair of high grade, Silver Age slabs from Dan and I couldn't be happier with the deal. He always works with me to figure out the best shipping option, packages extremely securely, ships super fast and has good communication.

Thanks Dan, I look forward to next time. (thumbs u

  9. I discovered this myself reading the "Marvel: The Lost Generation" miniseries some time ago.

A quick Internet search just now doesn't turn up any additional sources; this page sites the same series in a comment far down on the page:

"Older than They Look: According to the Marvel: The Lost Generation limited series, Strange's origin story predates the Fantastic Four's by decades; in other words, he has not been subject to Comic Book Time, and his origin actually did happen in the 60's, or likely even earlier. Thanks to his magic, he looks much younger than he is."

    http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Comicbook/DoctorStrange

His Marvel Wiki page also quotes specific years of his birth and life events, which is not usually done unless they are established in canon (due to comic book time for example, the year of the FF's rocketship flight would never be given, but something like Captain America's or Wolverine's birth years would be).

    http://marvel.wikia.com/Stephen_Strange_(Earth-616)

Stephen Strange became Dr. Strange in 1963. The Fantastic Four got their powers in '61.

    I don't get it.

If Strange's origin happened in the sixties, how does that predate the Fantastic Four's by decades?

Unless now they (Marvel?) are retconning FF #1 to some future time. Which doesn't make sense.

Reed and Ben fought in WWII, which would make them at least 18 in 1942 (or around that). So they would be in their late thirties in 1961. If the FF origin was decades later, how old were Reed and Ben during that fateful space flight? Late forties? Late fifties?

If Strange was born in 1930 (which makes him younger than Reed and Ben), he had to be around 30 when he became a doctor, which happened well before he became Dr. Strange. The math says he couldn't become Dr. Strange before the early '60s.

That tvtropes page doesn't make any sense.

    Hi -

Everything you need is in my post above. Dr. Strange's birthdate and getting powers are fixed, FF's are on a sliding timescale.

So now, in our time, 2014 -

    Stephen Strange birth - 1930

    Becomes Dr. Strange - 1963

FF rocketship - "about ten years ago" - 2004

The situation in 2020 (our time) will be

    Stephen Strange birth - 1930

    Becomes Dr. Strange - 1963

FF rocketship - "about ten years ago" - 2010

    Make sense?

    I guess.

Except when Reed meets Fury and the Commandos in Sgt. Fury #3. Which did take place in WWII. And about a dozen other references to Reed and Ben fighting in WWII.

I don't care how the timescale is slided, things don't make sense.

So unless current Marvel has retconned WWII to have occurred in the 1990's, then Reed and Ben were around 80 - 90 years old when they became the FF in 2010, and the events of FF #1, despite the style of the cars and clothing depicted, happened 40 years after the US landed on the Moon (which negates the events of FF 13) .

So in this convoluted nonsensical new Marvel universe, not to be confused with the finely crafted interwoven world created by Kirby, Ditko, Lee, and a few others; Dr. Strange is the first silver age Marvel hero. Somehow.

I realize you're following the new explanation of things, but in my perspective the confused logic of the current Marvel universe is like the old Earth 1 - Earth 2 stuff that eventually bogged down DC in the '60s and '70s .

Which is why I don't read moderns (but I do keep track somewhat of what's going on, just for laughs).

Marvel continuity has been retconned so Reed and Ben never served in WWII...

    Those stories "never happened"

Sorry to break it to you...

It was pretty unavoidable for that to have been written out of history otherwise they'd have to at very least be in their mid 80's by now.

Much like Iron Man's origin got altered so that it wasn't in Vietnam.

  10. Purchased a Hero For Hire # 1 from Chris, this was the second time I've dealt with him and it was just as positive experience as the first time.

Chris is a first class seller all the way. (thumbs u

  11. I don't know if it was mentioned, but financially the movie isn't doing all the well. It is on pace to make X3 money.

With the cost of these movies, you have to wonder how much longer studios will keep making them...

The superhero movies actually have dominated box office sales this year worldwide.

They will keep making them because really what other genre has dominated like superhero movies have?

We have come a long way since people lined up to see Kramer vs. Kramer over Star Trek! (thumbs u

I really like your enthusiam on here (I do), but you really need to read more Peter Bart stuff on Hollywood trends. ;)

    once the utters run dry...

Chris S. is right. This isn't a $60 million 1989 Batman grossing $250 million (not adjusted for inflation) or a $140 million Spider-Man grossing $400 million domestic. These films are gonna depend on international grosses in order to be green-lit with their big-budgets. Thus, they will get more and more high concept, until your suspension of belief will have to be supported by a giant crane and all it will take is one action movie hit with an ordinary hero (modest budget) against overwhelming odds to remind the mainstream expensive cape movies are kind of silly (that or a real-life event that changes the world into a more serious climate- see what cancelled the original Batman TV series).

Yea the article I read discussed the enormous budget and the small amount of money they make in the end. Why continue to make these 300-400 million dollar movies when they came make smaller budget films?

The article I read went in to the implications that ASM 2 and X-Men: DOFP might have on the big companies.

Personally I thought the film was the best X-Men movie I've seen.

    It's at $111M after 4 DAYS.

It's at 55% of its budget after 4 DAYS.

And word of mouth is as strong as I've ever seen it.

Odds are - it's going to do just fine.

....... and it's not just the box office takings that have to be taken into account, DVD sales and merchandising are huge incomes as well.

  12. Yeah, and I really believed I was in a cincture wormhole....

Many of us wish you were. Your posts would be easier to avoid that way.

too... c'mon, locations are known to be jokes, look around. My comment about the limo was a jest towards my monetary situation.

Okay. So then we weren't wrong to presume that you're still in your parent's basement.

Now, we know that is all BS too, but I think Hepcat may have different ideas.

Well my idea has always been that you post nothing but BS which is why I'm ever so glad to just avoid your posts. But when you insist on going out of your way to draw my attention....

Tell me though, do you ever bother to actually discuss what you like about various comics on this board?

    ???

    1) it's called the ignore function - you should use it!

    2) my parents don't own a house with a basement :P

    3) if you read my posts, you'd see that sometimes I do actually talk about comics - what about that "When Arch gets back..." thread you have, do you talk about comics there? I went through the first few pages and saw nothing of comics, yet it stinks up the CG board every few days. But I know that you are a mod and that thread will never get moved to the WC, where it belongs.

    :)

My parents have a basement. Where else would they put the sex dungeon?

Sex loft just doesn't have the same ring to it. hm

  13. Jeff Wadlow and Mark Millar have yet to announce the five person roster for the movie, but many believe Cable and Deadpool are locked in for two spots.

    Who would be your Five?

    My five would be:.

    1) Cable

    2) Deadpool

    3) Domino

    4) Warpath

    5) and a bratty joke cracking Boom Boom

with an assist from Forge ( but no field action)

I didn't know it had been confirmed as a five person roster. Where was that announced?

I believe that Cable and Deadpool are pretty fixed for the movie but would Deadpool definitely be on the team? He could be more interesting as an initial antagonist who later finds himself on the same side.

  14. I'm looking forward to seeng just what the X Force movie line up would be. The current rumour that it will be a cross between the original roster amd later rosters is just what I would hope for. I think I would like something like.......

    Cable

    Domino

    Warpath

    Psylocke

    Fantomex

    Archangel

With Deadpool featured as a non member. Maybe a cameo by Wolverine but that's not essential.

Possibly Stryfe and the MLF as the villains?
