  1. Also I don't think Alleybat is on the list for having a bunch of shills, I think he's on the list for taking thousands of dollars from a board member for a Batman #1 and never delivering the book.

Exactly. Alleybat was in the HOS for the Batman #1 scam. For quite some time, BucOne aka etc. was in the HOS as a separate entity for various other shenanigans. It was only in the past 4-6 months that someone provided proof that Alleybat and BucOne were the same person.

  2. but if TFL can get added for not paying for a book

That's a bit of an understatement.

    I don't think it is.

sure it was an expenssive book, and apparantly put the seller in a bad situation, but that shouldnt make him any more eligable for the HOS then if it were a $1.00 book that he didnt pay for .

in the end its the act not the value .

and considering (to my knowledge) TFL had a bad (very bad) dealing with a single member vs the 4 or 5 that Danimal is involved with, makes Danimal(IMO) much more worthy of a HOS spot then TFL is.

    again, just my 2c .

I don't think it was just the five-figure dollar value that resulted in the HOS bump. Stringing the seller along for months and months with promises of payment contributed. As did the utter lack of remorse after backing out of the deal.

But I think the biggest factor was the hypocrisy regarding restitution for expenses. If I recall correctly, TFL had someone back out of a deal for a ~$100 book which he subsequently sold for less than the original deal. TFL wanted the original buyer to make up his "loss" on the book. This occurred shortly after TFL had refused responsibility for the seller's losses (interest charges, declining a higher offer, etc) on the book that he had backed out on. I believe it was at THIS point that TFL got nominated for the Probation List. The seller had otherwise been willing to let it go, but got pissed about the double standard.

Of course I may have misremembered some of the details...

  3. Kudos to topnotchman for a fantastic copy of Spidey vs Wolverine.

I'd also like to commend topnotchman for graciously donating this book to the Ryan C. charity auction. You're a class act! (thumbs u

As always, the book was well packed, lightning fast shipping, and great communication. It was a pleasure dealing with you once again!

  4. I lost faith in the probation list when putting a member on it for non-payment before the 30-day period, which violated the rules. It was just a few members that decided yes this buyer should be on the list but the rules (to my knowledge) where never changed to accommodate buyers remitting payment before 30-days. Leniency or bending the rules once shatters the process as a whole.

Voting to put members on the list or banning sketch sellers who haven’t actually harmed any parties account for this type of circumventing the process. This community does a great job at policing itself and I believe these instances are justifiably handed case by case by individual members. If it is the rules that need to be changed based on an ever-changing selling environment then we should do this as a community and look to use these three cases as examples rather than trying to incorporate them into unfound rules. Once the community loses faith in this probation system, what do you have left?

What I see being done here truly saddens me and is so far from the spirit of the boards that I originally joined.

In all fairness, I believe this was applied only in one or two instances where the buyer flat out said that they had no intention of paying. It seems harsh to force the seller to wait 30 days under those circumstances. Especially if it means they have to hold onto books for a month instead of putting them back up for sale.

  5. Why not put a third tier onto the system?

Hall of Shame for multiple repeat offenders (eg. Cap Freak), those who have engaged in outright fraudulent activity (eg. Alleybat) or anyone who has made the Probation List while engaging in especially shameful behavior.

Probation List for the standard offenders who failed to complete a transaction inside 30 days. Perhaps with an upgrade to HoS status on the third offense? (Maybe second offense?)

Grey List for members who, by consensus, have acted in an unprofessional manner without actually making the Probation List. "Deal with at your own risk. You've been warned. We told you so..."

  6. Well, I finished reading the whole Yannis / mt1000 TEC fiasco over in General...

I've noticed quite a few people making remarks about how the situation isn't a Probation List issue since the book has been sold and there's no way to resolve the original transaction.

It's my understanding that it becomes a Probation List issue if mt1000 choses to make it one. That the original transaction can't be completed isn't a factor. Addition to the list and removal from the list have always been at the discretion of the offended party.

There have been a number of past Probation List issues resolved without finalizing the original transaction. These involved getting a "pardon" and have usually involved the offender making a sincere public apology at the request of and to the satisfaction of the offended party. I'm sure there are other "community service" options available as well, if the offended party wanted to get creative.

I guess what I'm tryiing to say is that mt1000 shouldn't feel that he has no options regarding the Probation List simply because the original deal can't be completed.

Now the Hall of Shame, on the other hand, is a different matter. I think that's always operated on majority vote...

  7. From Thesavros' sales thread in Copper/Modern...

After a couple of PM discussions, and looking through the old sales thread I am afraid I will have to withdraw my offer for the books I previously took in this thread. Additionally Luke sold me four books via PM for an additional $4.50. The total sale to this point was $6.00. My understanding of the rules of the forum is that probation members cannot sell on the boards, and other members cannot buy from them. Until this situation is sufficiently cleared up, I just cannot buy these books.

Sorry for any trouble this may cause. Luke you have certainly been kind and polite in our interactions, but I value being a part of this community and the rules are the rules. I hope that the previous difficulty is worked out, and apologize for any hassle.

From last year's Probation List discussion regarding Taz007...

When the VCC was going on, Taz PM'ed me and asked whether it would be ok for him to grab a bunch of books and then pay "1-2 weeks later". I said sure. He lated added some more books from my recent For Sale thread, and I was just about to shoot him a reminder for payment (because it's been 3 weeks now) when I received this PM:

    Ay Micheal,

I don't quit know how to put this but my car was totaled yesterday by some crazy drunkard so i won't be able to buy any of those books off you. i was meaning to right you sooner but got caught up in school work and such. I really need to buy a replacement car asap before fall semester starts so i have to sell all my books and cant buy any of the books i already committed to buy. Hope you don't hold this against me in the future dude. lol

    Lucas

Perhaps it's just me, but I fail to see the humor in this situation ...

So... Thesavros' name is Luke and Taz007's name is Lucas. And they're "brothers". I think I'd need to see driver's licenses before I'd believe any set of parents would name their kids Luke and Lucas. Why not make it more confusing and name them Joey and Joe? Or Franklin and Frank?

Not that I think anyone had any doubts, but I call B.S. 2c

  8. CGC shipped my books using FedEx and with insurance. If you've got an idea of the value of your books, you ought to be able to find a shipping calculator at the Fedex website.

This reminds me... I've got a set of coupons expiring soon. I should probably put together an order myself.

  9. I've only sent two lots of books to CGC for grading, but other than the shipping fees each way, I've never had any extra hassles.

Be sure to keep the paperwork from the outbound shipment, though. There's not supposed to be a duty on goods sent to the US for appraisal that are being returned to you. It's a good idea to keep copies of your CGC submission form and Canada Post receipt just in case Canada Customs dings you anyway.

  10. Hey guys, I will most likely be putting up my ASM 129 cgc 9.2wp up in the for sale forum in the next couple days.

If anyone is interested my asking will be 725.00 plus shipping. PM me with any questions. Gorgeous copy, almost 9.4 looking.

I'm in the market for a copy, so I'll be watching...

BTW - When you list it, would you be able to include a back cover scan too?

My scanner unfortunately doesn't quite fit slabs. I can try to take a close up picture of the back for you though.

    Thanks! (thumbs u
