  1. The sales via a third party is actually the smartest move he made. Using an established dealer as an escrow agent to handle the money and books is the only way I'd even consider buying a valuable book from a complete unknown. As far as I can tell, we have no rules against that.

:roflmao: Who he's partners with is the precise reason I have no interest in any of his books.

That is certainly your perogative. I've never dealt with his partner, but I understand that there is some history there...

The point I was trying to make is that, in general, use of a dealer as an intermediary is much safer than dealing directly with someone who has no track record or Board reputation (e.g. the AlleyBat fiasco).

Anyhow, this may be moot since it appears that the seller has successfully completed a half-dozen or so transactions to the satisfaction of the Board Members involved.

  2. Not to cause any problems but why is this sales thread even allowed? The books are not in hand, they are being sold by another party (?), some have prices, others don't and most of the sales are done in private. Just wondering...

As far as I can tell, he hasn't actually broken any of the Forum rules other than neglecting to price a few books until it's pointed out to him. But that happens occasionally with long-time sellers too...

There are a lot of sellers around here who pre-sell books that aren't in hand but are on their way back from the CGC. As long as that fact is disclosed, it's never been a problem in the past.

And PM sales are incredibly common around here. If I had $1 for every time I've seen "Book XYZ sold by PM" posted, I'd be a rich man.

That being said, the thread is definitely a complete mess. I think the seller would have benefited from taking a day or two to study some other sales threads to see how things are usually done around here.

  4. Thought I'd alert the ASM brethren to another fairly astounding ComicLink situaton shaping up...an ASM #86 in their current focused auction (ending tonight in less than 5 hours)--CGC 9.0 (WP)--is at 600.00. :whatthe:

I know this issue is tough in grade, but I just checked the census and there's 64 copies out of 194 total that are higher than 9.0. Current Overstreet has VF/NM at 100.00, so not too shabby at 6 times Guide. Could it go much higher by auction's end?

    $600 for a 9.0?!?!? :o

That's just silly... I'm assuming this must be a pressing candidate that someone hopes to turn into a 9.6. There's no justification to pay that much otherwise.

  5. I can remember when that list was only a handful of names. You know, back in Feb.

    :roflmao:

An interesting point over in General, should Hall Of Shame members have a custom title to point it out so everybody knows they're on there?

Don't we have only one Hall of Shame member who might be actually trying to post on here?

AlleyBat and GilbertTorres haven't been heard from since they took off with the loot and ComicSupply would get their business trashed if they pop back up. CapFreak will have a hard time on these boards and will be constantly having to explain for quite a long time. I don't think any other labels will be necessary. He essentially has a scarlet letter on him already.

This raises a question... Given that AlleyBat was banned, why do we keep him on the list? I can't see him getting amnesty from the mods, so he'll never be coming back to scam anyone else.

Are there any other banned users on the list?

  6. Books need to be board exclusive IF they are listed in the reg. sellers marketplace.

The Funny thing is One of the Rules states

"4.It must be an exclusive board-only offer. If the book is offered for sale through another venue (ebay, dealer site, personal web site, etc.) then it should NOT be offered here. It should be offered in the Sales Advertising board."

    Except there isnt one

It's right below the WTB board...

Comic Market - Sales Advertising, etc..

  7. In the 2-1/2 years since I've joined the boards, I've witnessed a number of fiascos like this one, and it all boils down to COMMUNICATION. Most people are pretty patient as long as they're kept informed.

Plenty of sellers have said they have no problems with time payments or cancelling a deal if a buyer has overextended him/herself or has buyer's remorse. The problem arises when the takeit graemlin is posted and then the seller hears nothing for 30 days or has their PMs ignored. Likewise for buyers who get excuses or ignored by sellers about delays in mailing.

In many cases, the buyer/seller with a grievance has said that honest communication by the probationer would have gone a long way to salvaging the situation.

  8. I think a few people here should take a step back and reflect a bit before they continue posting. Its turned into a troll feeding frenzy with Cap merely tossing more chum into the waters.

But it's certainly entertaining for those of us without a horse in this race...
