  1. Its not the ink bleeding deeper into the page. The chemicals just break down. As for comic artist, not that I should speak for them, but in the past, before comic art became more valuable, I don't think they care about fading, they just use whatever they can to easily create what they were paid to do (create an image for publication) Malvin
  2. I think there are 2 factors, light exposure does cause fading, but different types of markers have different "speed of fadingness". Some will still fade without exposure to light. Malvin
  3. Something done with a sharpie or some other markers will light and turn brown. They will eventually disappear. I have seen art where it gets so light you cant see it anymore. And Brian said what I didn't want to say since people seem so convinced that markers are fine. Yup, touching a piece of art will cripple the value, but whats the value of a blank page? Malvin
  4. Yup, its not bad at all, nothing wrong with spending big money on marker pieces Apologies to the CAF gallery owner, but here is some art where marker fade is no big deal: Starlin Death of Captain Marvel Page Another Starlin Captain Marvel page as for fix, yes there is. It's called commissioning an inker, preferably the original one, to re-ink it. I remember reading one inker doing it and saying he would raise his prices next time because the work was quite extensive. Malvin
  5. Yup, Kz is right, bad markers will fade regardless of the light exposure. Avoid like the plague! Malvin
  6. Google will answer alot of these questions, but here is my quick attempt without google 1. Last time I check, Travel Foreman doesn't sell his art. Paquette is on CAF, the rest you can google. 2. Hmm.. I have never seen a DPS that was already not attached when I bought it (I have bought have a DPS before). If I had to tape it myself I would buy archival tape 3. I don't buy off the shelf frames so I can't comment. 4. Art paper? In 11x17? you can just buy artboard, google it 5. Once again, google will reveal lots of people, but the the last time I was looking, I call e-gerber had the cheapest prices Malvin
  7. I agree, if I had the money sitting in paypal I would strongly consider it, unfortunately my war chest is quite bare right now Malvin
  8. This didn't get as much acclaim as most of Alan Moore's work from the 80's, but I really enjoyed his 2 issue run on Vigilante so I was stocked to get this awesome example CAF Link I also uploaded this Marshall Rogers Batman page. They were both Large art so it took awhile to scan and stitch them. CAF Link Thanks for looking Malvin
  9. Quality is stuff like Neal Adams Batman cover and slashes, Bernie Wrightson Swamp Thing cover/spalshes, Bolland Killing Joke pages, Frank Miller DD/ Dark Knight pages ect.. you get the idea. What did you think we meant? and you have multiple examples of each of those but of course you can't show it since it violates your rules right? Malvin
  10. umyeahwhatevers - many factors drive OA pricing. Nostalgia is a big one, along with a hot artist or writer (which you can argue is also tied into nostalgia). I imagine the same factors drive comic pricing, so I there is likely a relationship. But there are no handy dandy factors that can be applied based on comic pricing, you just have to learn and know the OA market. Reader - I agree with Maccai 3's definition of double page splash and double page spread, although those terms are used interchangeably alot. Malvin
  11. I just added an Erik Larsen piece featuring Batman vs Two-Face! CAF Link Malvin
  12. congrats on that page! You have great taste! (I was the underbidder) Malvin
  13. At first I thought I had nothing to add to this thread, since there are few specific pages or covers that I am looking for, I'll just know I want it when I see it. I just remembered that I once got a great Dale Keown Splash of Marvel Girl/Jean grey from X-factor and I didn't realize that it was part of a DPS. If anyone knows where the other half of the DPS is, let me know! The pair should be reunited! CAF link to my 1/2 of the Keown X-Factor DPS as well as the published pages showing the full DPS Malvin
  14. I think the only difference between preservation glass and museum glass is the anti glare coating. Museum glass has it so pictures can be taken easier, but they are both archival and block out UV light to the same extent Malvin
  15. In commemoration of the Avengers movie, I uploaded a couple of Avengers related pages! 1. Captain America 350 page - Captain America vs The Captain by Kieron Dwyer 2. New Avengers Illuminati - Mr. Fantastic by Jim Cheung Link to CAF recent uploads Malvin
  16. I don't like line by line rip offs, but I think some of these swipes are a stretch How many ways can you show someone carrying a lifeless body? How many ways can you show spidey swinging through buildings? After countless issues of spidey, I'm sure for a large majority of Spidey panels, someone can find something similar in an older comic, but it doesn't mean it was a swipe. Malvin
  17. Spencer will help if he can, but if the commission did not go through him, I don't see what hounding him will do. Heck, I don't see what responsibility he has, beyond the fact that one of his artist's reputation will be affected. The analogy isn't quite right, but its like someone buying a "broken" comic direct from DC and then going to your local comic store to ask them to "fix" it even though you didn't buy it there. Malvin If I'm in a business relationship with someone who is actively ripping off my potential clients, I wouldn't have a problem asking them to make things right. I definitely think it's in his best interests to help out if possible. I agree that its in his best interest to do so, especially if sales of Joe's art dry up as a result of this. However, at the end of the day, he wasn't involved in the original transaction. If you ask him he will try to help, but if you hound him, that goes too far. Malvin

  19. You learn new things in this hobby all the time, I had to google obsequious and I thought I was a learn-ned individual Malvin
  20. thanks Alex, I'll give it a try. The penciller might not know who inked his page though (whereas one of the inkers is more likely to be able to identify/remember if they inked the page. Of course Giordano is no longer with us unfortunately)
  21. I just uploaded a great splash page from Huntress issue 1 that was released way back in 1989. My first duoshade piece too. If anyone definitively knows who the inker is, please let me know. CAF link Thanks for looking Malvin
  22. Anyone enjoy Hitman by Garth Ennis & John McCrea? I did so I'm glad to add a title splash and a great sketch by McCrea. Have a look! CAF Link Malvin
  23. What do you do when you probably won't get the original and the artist (Frank Miller) doesn't sketch? You get another published page that is an homage to the scene you want! I'm talking about the scene from Frank Miller's Elektra Saga where she has to climb a cliff. I didn't know it, but the series by Mike Deodato has a scene that pays homage to it, so I bought the page when I saw it! link to CAF Thanks for hearing me blather and looking! Malvin
  24. This is probably only something I would love. I actually first noticed Dale Keown way back when he worked for the Canadian independent comic company Aircel (which apparently started as an insulation company) I liked Dragonforce and he earlier worked on Dragon Ring, Samurai and others. Here is an early Dragon Ring page on CAF Thanks for looking! Malvin
