  1. Detective 29 .....classic early Batman in unimprovable grade Marvel Mystery 9 .....if I had to buy one MM it would be #9 & Flash 1 ....first appearances galore, and Tec 1 is a curiousity IMO
  2. Just a snapshot in time I agree, but even if it is three dots on the graph, there are only six known dots, so if half traded and are trending down, it is still noteworthy. I agree Spidey is the top superhero of today and has been for a long time. But I also agree with you that 9.4's will continue to appear, true raws and possibly altered lower grades. That will diminish the others worth, in my opinion. Supply and demand usually drive price. If there continues to be an increased supply of 9.4 AF 15's won't that one day outstrip demand, and hence freeze or even lower prices? Not many 9.4 big golden age keys exist at all, so they should remain a steady investment, for the filthy rich that is! but not every dealer reports to GPA. Your chart omits the 9.4 that was on the PGC site at 160K and was listed as Sales Pending of late. And whatever Metro's copy will sell for, which I will bet money will set a new record, as in 160+. (anyone think Metro would let it go for less than an all-time record?) anyway, put me down for a 9.4 AF15 over the 9.4 ButtBoy First Appearance or the MF52 with glue on the basis of Spideys overwhelming popularity which shows no signs of slowing any time soon.... and certainly for far longer then it will take for Spectre or Robin to heat up enough to eclipse him. As in like never. Sucks that there are 6 9.4s
  3. beg to differ. cant hurt to keep them talking. This thread showed a lot of progress, especially in Joshs repeat postings and one-on-one discussion with Josh. I dont understand why youd rather see it end at a stalemate?
  4. Josh and George... with such earnest mutual respect why not continue discussing this. Josh obviously sees a value in helping GPAs figures be more accurate in the upper end of sales. That certainly makes a lot of sense to all of us who dwell in HG land. The closer GPA gets to universal access to all HIGH END sales, all the better for GPAs product. And you will already have plenty of data in the lower grades since they are more plentiful and trade more often. However, George, you have a policy of only acceting 100% of a dealers data. Fine. (and dandy!) Case closed. Agree to disagree. But Josh made a surprisingly interesting statement which rings true to my ears: some of your present contributors are not complying with your stated rules and holding back some sales data. So I think you two should discuss this further, and you George do a little investigating to ascertain the truth. And if Josh is right, either straighten those guys out.... or make a deal with Josh. Frankly, Comiclink sells so many comics at the high end that his data is arguably NECESSARY in this current market for your data to become as useful and accurate as possible... no? There should be a compromise in this situation..... since you may already have been compromised by other dealers info. just my humble opinion.
  5. and magic markers... with some shoe polish for the blacks. those were the only art supplies Kane had lying around the house.
  6. The Giant Rat of Sumatra! Found at last!
  7. did it have a rat chew somewhere as well?
  8. Dave - - dont go! It took this *spoon* to get you here, but stay for the good times!
  9. sweet Bat11... no contest. Tough nuggies, Tough Guys! : )
  10. thanks for agreeing with me, even if it was only between the lines Ive never understood the immense appeal of the book. But I fully understand it to be a REAL desire shared by many other comic collectors. So Im not out to offend anyone's collecting goals.
  11. Superman is a better book, and unrestored is the way to go since so many were touched up. But Suspemse 3, while not everyones cup of meat and is considered way overvalued by many, has its solid core of fans and adolators. So this 8.0 copy would be easy to move to the open arms of a collectors. The beat up looking Supes is not an attractive copy at all. So, IMO right now, even though I am not a big Suspense 3 fan, I would pick it. But down the road? Id bet that the unrestored Superman 1 even as fugly looking as it is, would hold up better and gain in value consistently, whereas the coterie of Suspense 3 worshippers will fade and its value will hit a ceiling at some point. (of course, I would have put the ceiling at $40K!! ) You dont tug on Superman's cape!
  12. Adventure. Its not the hottest or most desireable book around, but there will always be demand for a 9.4 early DC hero Church book. And, as has been pointed out, extensive restored Supes 1s are too common. But, in this case price IS a factor. If we are talking 40-50K each, Id take Superman, bacause a non-hero cover Sandman issue would have no upside at that price. 10-20K would be a tossup.
  13. neither. Whats an Amazing Man? and the Cap is restored. Some choice!
  14. Diamond Run copy is better. you think the DR copy is the best of the 9.4s? apparently the worst is the browned copy Wilson now lists as "sale pending' on his site at 160K. Then theres the WM copy. Whats the story on the other 2 copies?
  15. thats a one of a kind piece and a bit large for a false entry anyway. Ialways thought Bobs additions were small stuff, or made up descriptions or an extra issue of something like DA#1 would be. But, I have no real info on this.
  16. I feel this hunt is a bit like the game Batleship. Isnt it now very probable that Double Action Comics is one of those mythical imaginary comics that are supposedly sprinkled throughout the Guide since day one to serve as "legal land mines" to protect Bob's proprietary pricing data from being copied and published by someone else? We all believe thats true right? So, we could have stumbled on one of them here. Bobs non denial denial (as in the bygone Nixon days) sounds consistent with what Bob might say to a question about the specifics of such an imaginary entry in his Guide. Unless he can actually describe it in detail in a followup question..
  17. one more question: If all you needed to prove was a printed piece using a particular title etc.....Why would there NEED to BE a #2 after a #1? You didnt need to show consecutive issues with the same title did you? Im guessing there was no #1.
  18. thats what I menat by being "released" as in by special relationships with insiders like Sol. I was trying to explain why the major GA collections did not have them nor COULD have had them since they came out much later on as curiousities of the publishing business process, and not as products for sale. As for #1 and #2, depending on what exact purpose they served (postal regs, copyright security, etc) couldt a #2 serve as wellas a #1 on the cover? Or perhaps, #1 was one title and #2 a different title? Comic books changed titles but kept the numbering all the time back then when #1s didnt automatically sell like they do now. Maybe Ashcans ooperated similarly in their numbering. Or, in this case, all the #1s were just either dispersed and destroyed or lost over the years. They were worthless oddities once their job was done, after all, werent they? Where were they sent for copyright reg purposes anyway? Wouldt THAT place be the SOURCE for ALL of them?? A government office? Or even the attorneys files?
  19. werent all these ashcans produced internally by oublishers in the handfuls just for copyright purposes? If so, at what point were they released to the public/collectors?
  20. I actually remember pleading with my mom to let me guy that issue. It was still on the rack a month later when all the 12 centers came out, and I begged " but this ones only a dime!!!" no luck. no funny book for me.
  21. broncho bill??? does he have a super lungs?
