  1. Seems to me that the business in both video games and VHS is only in the mint still wrapped never sold or touched copies. And if there are very few out there it should limit the attraction for new collectors. And if there are tons of unsold stock sitting in high grade, that too puts a damper on it . All the millions of opened, used, watched copies with creased or worse boxes are plentiful and not with slabbing… except for what the market determines is hot and/or scarce enough to sell ANY copy in any condition.
  2. I bought the first CBG off eBay years ago thinking it would be special by now. Feels like it’s still only mildly collectible.
  3. egos gonna clash. especially BIG egos.
  4. I agreed it was bad form…. sounds like they had a few run-Ins over the years which Roy couldn’t help including in his tribute. But yeah, eulogies are supposed to paint a rosy picture of the departed, not an accurate one.
  5. Bad form, but Neal’s rep with other pros was, well, more than a little strained.
  6. the exact same words were forming in my head as I read your comment!
  7. this may have been answered weeks ago, but we are still in the old mindset Im sure you know all too well that all comics and pulp characters have varying levels of popularity and hence value based on that popularity. And the multiplier was always a movie, TV show or ANY cross media efforts at all. (toys games etc) So even with 5500 Marvel characters, only what, 250 have appeared outside comics, in TV and movies? Its still a separating point between the others. At some point, it wont mean s much cause it will happen to so many other characters that are seen once and never again. Which is already sort of happening when prices skyrocket then decline post movie opening.
  8. Lol. I read the line wrong. It reads “Amazing Fantasy 15 9.6. “. But there’s a 9.4 before Amazing, and the 9.6 belongs to DD 1 on the next line. I gotta lie down again.. TB had a 9.4 early on and much later, after all the other upgrades, finally relented and had his done.
  9. That can’t be the original list of books. He only had a 9.4 when he went full sonny!
  10. Reggie Jackson or Catfish Hunter, unless they were in the 80s...
  11. just his usual reach around move! nothing to see here.
  12. wow. brain faart! My bad... Label says Jaime... but I was seeing Bollands inking, and remember his Forbidden Planet ad layout he was renowned for.... and -- Jaime doesn't often go into so much detailed likework Brian is known for, right? I gotta lie down....
  13. I’ve looked at this cover Bolland art for 40 years almost? And it still knocks me out how good he is.
  14. in my experience talking to LCS owners over the years, they are "trapped"in a offer nothing and take your chances situation. In the rare occasions when the seller HAS good stuff, If they alert the owners what their stuff is really worth they spook the seller into getting other offers. And they never come back! So they just throw out lowball offers to everyone. Ive heard this scenario many times. This seller with the comics has to realize how lucky he is that someone will take the time to do all the work for less than 50%. The deal rests on whats the keys are, and what condition. There may be some slabbing involved before its all said and done.
  15. well in that case, if you can get 40% thats cool. It sounds like a high % but you'll be working hard for the money! He may already realize its just no picnic selling boxes of comics, keys or no keys. easier to buy them If you offer 50-60% retail to just buy them he's getting the same deal and the money right away! worth a shot.
  16. Or not. And just hold on to it for many more years. Anyway, I was misunderstanding about it having been sold recently.
  17. 40%?? More like 10%. But depends on what state the comics are in. Boxes of raw ungraded low or mid grade the dealer needs to spend way more time prepping grading and finding buyers, as well as discounting to sell but slabbed books are a done deal. 10%. Or 15% tops if they need to be scanned etc. wait, are these being consigned to you to sell? Or you looking to have someone else sell your books?
  18. So somebody bought this AS8 last year… and is now selling it? Feels like a failed upgrade gamble so now sell it. Lightning didn’t strike twice!
  19. Pedigree book is a matter of time and energy. It can get done. But the film needs cash and with that lackluster pitch, that’s just never gonna happen
  20. it happens. Once upon a time my 9.4 was top of the world. thems the breaks
  21. low res camera group photos wouldn't ID your specific copies... just seeing them together would get ooohs and aahs
  22. turns out I was wrong... the foreign titles ARE on the new labels. They are centered under the publisher. I didnt see them while on my phone looking at the scans.
  23. I just read the announcement hoping you'd all be pleased at progress, but seems your number one issue hasn't been resolved. Still no foreign titles in the database for searching. I haven't caught up on all the posts here today, but IS there a database out there that has all the foreign titles and issue numbers and US key story reprints already completed? Seems to me that with the research done, CGC could be persuaded to work out a perfect solution that's searchable the way they have it now but also under each individual foreign title and issue#... The database could be hosted so that collectors can check it first to figure out the CGC listing time and issue and country. Seeing the scans in the announcement though is very exciting. Im more interested in them than I was... or though I would be, These can be the new hot variants!
  24. my guess is that CGC would need to add fields to their database, not impossible, but not an easy thing to do... or at least maybe in the works. It would affect the label layout and domino effects down the line. And to satisfy a still small segment of collectors. IMO I agree with their current approach: following collector interest mainly in seeking the foreign reprints editions of US key books, and labeling them that way rather than introduce all the various foreign titles. Theres more desmans for Amazing Fantasy reprints as Amazing Fantasy 15! This makes searching by foreign title impossible. But listing them by foreign local titles just moves the search frustration to the other foot. --- US collectors trying to search out the foreign issue that reprinted a popular US comic .. Hey here's the solution, someone create a separate database linking all the foreign issues to the US originals. Once that is created, down the line CGC can more easily incorporate it into their systems!
