  1. interesting. This was due to his poor health in the beginning? Every now and again Check out his websites to see how hes doing. Its all From Hell stuff which hasn't interested me. I reread a series of issues fairy recently... but cant recall is it was The last issues, or Jakas story. Nice to revisit that world.
  2. well, if this were a TV police show they'd just zoom in and they'd be perfectly focussed!
  3. what kind of payment to Dave were you referring to? You buy something? or actually send a check?
  4. yes. according to the EMC analyss this may be an opportunity. However common comics knowledge plus popular culture would dissuade any seasoned collector from going with Cerebus at this point. Its day has passed. No TV, No toys, No new comics appearances etc etc (and the creator a weird mysogynist and celibate hermit to boot!) There No comparison today which property has the brighter future. Its values were based on its scarcity and its comics influence back in the 80s as the poster child for the Creator-owned movement. I dont say to denigrate Cerebus! I loved it, issue by issue. But so much has transpired since then...
  5. outside of any and all other computational issues related to the AMC and EMC or MMC of TNMT 1 and Cerebus 1 is that while they both have tiny printruns of 2000 and 3000, Cerebus 1s print run was lousy, resulting in very few high grade copies -- roughly just a few more that reached newsstands in addition to the dozen copies Sim pulled when they books arrived from the printer. Whereas TNMT somehow has 100s of high grade slabbed copies (I looked it up recently and I was astounded) PLUS, of course the handful of 9.4 Cerebus 1s will sell for maybe 20-30K, but ALLl of the copies of TNMT 9.2 and above sell for that much and a crazy lot more now.
  6. that decision must have been up to the consignor. If it was a comics collector, who has been in the game for years, he might be hoping it really was worth what the non paying bidder bid it up to (and since there was an underbidder bidding right up til the end he must have thought he was right), so placing it in the Make an Offer felt like the best way to get near that price again. In this case, a quick call to the Promise heirs no doubt led to a decision to just resist it for whatever it gets. Having sold 10 plus million so far? whats the diff. All incredible found money.
  7. Maybe. I like to see it that none of US are buying comics at these prices. Therefore it’s new money. And they accept these value ranges. And — since they are wealthy, they are attracted to the books in this price range. Start at the top with the best… versus build a portfolio of smaller keys. If I were moving into a collecting hobby, say stamps, I’d seek out an inverted Jenny. Or the best movie posters: Frankenstein, Dracula? Sure they’d cost millions, but they have a solid track record of maintaining their place at the top of their hobbies and as cultural touchstones.
  8. thanx for the explanation. I kinda worked out that this auction with 20 comics lots wasn't a great fit for what has been working for you for years. Still a half hour is endless... Do some of your lots stay open till early in the morning? or go all night? I like the old fashioned auction style of one lot closes at a time. But there are plusses and minus on both methods for sellers and buyers.
  9. I was on Goldin site from the time it ended at 10PM. I watched a total,of maybe 6 bids on 18 comics and it took over an hour of watching paint dry. If I were bidding I’d sure want it to go quicker. Maybe 3 minutes is too short if you are trying to keep up with many books you are bidding on… so 5 minutes? Ten minutes tops? Also I don’t get why you can’t bid in the extended periods if you hadn’t placed a bid beforehand? I get that this rule prevents unqualified bidders from jumping in and messing it up if Golding hasn’t verified identity and payment ability. So have anyone who plans to bid only in the extended periods prequalify beforehand. I mean, it isn’t just to squeeze one more bid increment out of each bidder who seriously is out to win the lot?
  10. There’s no reason for such a long wait…
  11. Lots are closing…. I for one don’t like this extended bidding format. Batman 1 is at 1.2 plus 20%. Not bad…
  12. I agree that the odds are still for more copies of everything out there… It would be amazing if these 8.0s help up.
  13. Yes way. If the best you can get is an 8.0 the low grade doesn’t matter that much. We see it all the time. Highest graded is highest graded, unless you’re sure there are better copies out there. To date, all any of us know Is dentist copy plus maybe Bangzoom. Dentist may as well not even exist so an 8.0 is a better than decent chance to keep its status. Or not.
  14. I’d peg the two Superman 1s in 8.0, highest graded so far, at 3-4M. The Church copy would prob get the edge on Pedigree over the other. But, since no one can say they are for sale any time soon, we can only guess at their values. With AF 15 now in the mix at 3.6M all the big books could now be a million or more higher . If the AF 15 could talk, it’d be screaming like young Cassius Clay: “I shook up the World!
  15. Sounds great, thanx for the info. A small nit perhaps, but having collected since 2013, you never discovered the CGC boards til now? And knew the Golden Age and other sections contain many high end collectors? Guess our reach here isn’t as wide as we like to think!
  16. we are seeing in other collectible fields that MORE copies at the top increases interest and sales! I think while no one wanted there to be 4 copies, when they are all back in circulation it will propel prices higher than waiting a decade (or a lifetime!) for the owners to part with their copies leaving us with no sales data to make these exercises easier!
  17. um, give me a break, I can do the math too. saying 20 years for me is like saying its 8:15 when the clock says 8:18. ok? I didnt think the extra fw years matters to the point I was making,,, AND, fully expected someone to correct me.. GOTCHA!
  18. thats a great question. One's answer depends on a lot of things, like, why do you want either comic? cause its your favorite issue? your favorite character? greater historical importance? or just plain will turn out to be the better investment down the road. I would go with the value question, and take the AF15 due to Spideys popularity going forward over the scarcity of the other 2 books. Cap 1 could give it a run, as a 9.8 vs 4 or more 9.6s. Then again a 9.8 AF15 would be my choice over the Cap 1 9.8 I dont think the Marvel 1 has a chance anymore to compete for top spot even in 9.8.. But I expect im kinda outnumbered in in the GA section.
  19. There’s only 20 years separating Golden Age (Action 1, Tec 27) and AF 15. They used to mean old versus new comics eras, decades apart, but are more and more contemporaneous events now. 60 years old vs 80 years old. However as we know by the 60s collectors we’re saving their comics and buying multiples, so they are less scarce.
  20. I think a 9.8 of either book COULD beat the AF 15 3.6M. But I’m not sure they would. Before the AF sold, when 2.2M was a big number, what would we think they’d go for? 1.5? 2.2? So does the Spidey sale double those prices? I think they go to 2M to 3M because 9.8s will always be the highest graded rank. But don’t see them going to 4M or higher. To me the value rankings today are in the same general order relative to each other as before the AF15 sale, but at higher prices with 9.6 AF 15s solidly in the top ten now. ( listed in top ten ranks, not top ten copies cause they’d take up half of them!) I agree the other 9.6s aren’t necessarily going to sell for 3.6 tomorrow. But, wouldn’t sell for less than 2.8 to 3M and will all eclipses the 3.6 in time.
  21. The winning bid is ALWAYS one bid higher ISNT it?
