Very nice! The cover art on Nightmare on Elm Street looks so good on a VHS case! So were those the grades you expected? I went into this completely blind to how they'll grade VHS. I'm only experienced with CGC grading my comics.

I was super excited to try out the new slabbing service and sent in a couple of Star Wars VHS copies. Neither are original release issues, so they aren't the most valuable anyways (and the "A New Hope" wasn't in the best condition anyways). I just love Star Wars and wanted to see what the slabs and slabbing process was like. So... The slabs feel really good! And I really like the label information. It lists the type of seal and stamps, etc. My only nitpick is that I wished the VHS was more snug inside the case. It still has some wiggle room, so if someone were to shake the case around a lot, I could imagine the cardboard case inside getting damaged.

Will this lose grade on a reholder?
1337pino replied to Brem15's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
They only regrade a book on a reholder if it's obvious that the book was damaged AFTER being slabbed. An example of that would be blunting and edge damage from a slab dropping and damaging the book inside of it. Honestly, I'm not even sure if they would know to regrade it if the book has received UV damage since being last graded. If it's just damage to the case, they will simply put it into a new slab without a new grade. -
Grade is in: Star Wars Weekly 2
1337pino replied to scburdet's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
This feels like an 8.5 to me as is, but potentially 9.0+ if cleaned and pressed -

For me, it's gonna be a little tough for a cover that is specifically comic-related. I feel like movies of the VHS era were usually more misses when they were trying out a comic IP (maybe not as bad as video game-based adaptations, but still not the best). With that said, I guess my favorite one that is specifically comic-related is Heavy Metal: Though, not much beats hand drawn/painted cover art like Tom Jung's Star Wars cover. I would take that over anything else any day!

That will always be a top design. It's clean and iconic. I'm also a big fan of them not slapping quotes from critics on it or needing to name drop some of the cast. The the bat logo is all you need.

Thanks, and thanks for the help in the other thread! Missed the window to be the first post, but I'm very glad to have the appropriate space to post VHS-related content now that CGC has expanded into that domain!

Hey, so when collecting (especially when slabbing), what stickers, if any, do you leave on the sealed VHS? I have this sealed Pocahontas, and it has two stickers on it. One is a price tag, and the other is from Disney promoting this VHS release. Do they both add history/provenance to the collectible? I feel like one of them at least does, no?

2023 CGC Grading Contest Season 2 Summer Edition (#7) Signup Thread

I'm in if it's not too late -
For sure. A big part of the issue for me wasn't just the ambiguous size, but as I mentioned in the other thread, the census has multiple titles listed that appear to be the same issue of Wizard BUT they have differing census counts for the number of graded books: That's going to be the important thing for them to sort out first.

Since I was in a rush for answers before the Adam Hughes deadline, I ended up making a second thread in "Ask CGC" (https://boards.cgccomics.com/topic/520009-what-wizard-title-do-we-use-for-a-submission/?do=findComment&comment=12739700 ) and got the following CGC response from @MattM CS Based on that advise, I submitted this issue as a comic submission since it fits that size slab and CGC is still working out the issues with the census.

Thanks for the update, Matt! I figured the name changes, etc., threw a wrench into everything. I sometimes help update things in Grand Comics Database (https://www.comics.org/) and that's always a mess. And thanks for adding the information on what size to go with. The one I want to submit is in the comic size range (per the measurements on the CGC site), but I wasn't sure if it should be submitted as a comic or magazine since the issue I want to send in isn't in the census yet.
