  1. Books like the New Adventure 29 became even more amazing to me after I looked in the census statistics recently. I was surprised to find that CGC only has graded 31 books from the 1930s 9.6 or higher. Looking at the available circulation data, the total number of comic books published in the 1930s must have been 50-100 million so, at least so far, the survival rate literally looks like 1 in a million (at best). Hopefully more near mint 1930s books have been saved somewhere. With valiantman's help, I was able to obtain a list of the 93 unrestored 1930s books that have been graded CGC 9.4 or higher. Of the 80 books for which I was able to trace the provenance, almost 50 were from the Church collection. Perhaps the biggest surprise to me was how poorly all other pedigrees were represented: the ones that did best were the Denver, Allentown and Crescent City collections which had 1-2 books each. I was not able to identify a single San Francisco copy.

For comparison, the census has 241 books in 9.4+ from 1940 alone and 109 of those are in 9.6 up.

all the more reason to why RHG's collection is so AMAZING.

  2. As a run...the early "More Fun" books would have to be considered more difficult. I think some of the Adventure books we never see very often on the Boards (and rare) would be the "New Comics" and earlier "New Adventure Comics" with the previous style logo that preceded issue #15. Who has copies of those????? I for one, would love to see a few scans of those books. hm

Edit: Talking about "New Adventure" here...not the Double-Action #2.

Which ones would you like to see?

Looks better than the label says. Where's the group shot?

as soon as the na26 comes into australia from comiclink (thumbs u

  4. Is rarity (and the Action 1 ad) really that critical when determining value on these two that closed tonight:

    New Adventure Comics #18, CGC Universal 3.5 = $638

    New Adventure Comics #26, CGC Universal 1.0 = $7,956

That and the fact that NA 26 is one of the most highly sought after covers by Flessel.

one of MY biggest regrets was selling the NA26 8.0SP copy (2 twice :shy: )

so i HAD to win this!

Aha! So you're the one who won the book.. I was actually the underbidder and lost  Congrats on a nice pick-up! Glad it went to a boardie :applause:

So is this really THE toughest DC book?

nope, not by a long shot...there are lots of tougher books, but in much less collected titles (buzzy, funny stuff, comic calvacade, etc)...ever since Ian publicized this issue so much, I bet we have seen 6-10 copies trade hands... jus sometimes takes some big $ to make folks shake some out (all this my opinion of course)

Rick, in your opinon, what is the toughest single DC (other than ashcans)? Would Double Action 2 be up there?

even though your question was directed at rick i would like to say that DA2 would not be up there. i have seen and had access to 3 copies in the last couple of years.

if you are not including ashcans, giveaways and cover variants - some DC books i have not seen too many of for sale include:

    tec3 + 5

    MF35 + 40 + 45

    new adventure 12 + 13 + 15

Double Action #2 is one book where there is a fairly well known total population with all but a couple coming from Sol Harrison's estate, right?

I suspect all the other scarce books would show up in greater quantities if there was a price rise and some publicity. DA #2 already sells for a very high price and has been well-publicized and we still don't seem to be increasing the population beyond what was known 10 - 15 years ago.

    that is true.

i suspect that there may be two to three times more of the DC books i mentioned above in collections at present compared to DA2 copies.

just fewer of them have come to sale.
