  6. You may be right about why resto was created, but perhaps not. Some of us like restoration for many, well documented reasons, most of which could not be ascribed to greed. Since resto lowers the price, one can hardly call losing money greedy. Now conservation on the other hand..... It seems to me the "conservation" term came around as an attempt to do an end around on the devaluation brought about by restoration. For example: "Sure I sealed that tear, but I did that to CONSERVE the book, you know keep it from tearing worse. It's not RESTORED! I did the book a favor." Sounds like salesmanship to me at worst, semantics at best. I do see your point ciorac but surely there are some exceptions. Rusty staples for example. Someone might be willing to leave rusty staples if they didn't think it would spread and, in the long run, destroy the book. I have a comic right now with this problem. I am fine with how the book presents even with this defect and would not consider restoring it. I will consider conserving it though because I fear the rust further migrating into the pages. Now there is some salesmanship for ya!
  7. Wait a second ... are you saying the original art exists for TEC 31???
  8. I agree with you that the real question is how will resto affect non key non scarce books! I think the silver age market is a fair baramoter as to how the industry feels about that. Now if we are talking about minor ct or minor tear seals that is a different ball game. If you are looking at an MP restored All Star #29 for example I doubt there are very few golden age collectors who would be willing to consider this a collectable book. Why? Because I can find 50 unrestored copies and some low grade enough to match price with the restored one. I don't think this is too ramped a problem, at least with pro resto work, because the market doesn't allow it to be profitable. Why would someone restore a non key non scarce GA comic in todays market? There is no money in it and its not like these resto experts work cheap. Now when it comes to key and scarce books with resto I feel they can only pick up steam as demand for these books increases!
  9. Well said Rich!!! As someone who has grown to accept resto more and more in rare GA collecting....I couldn't agree with you more!
  10. It's a good thing that Schomburg included "black market" and the mask, otherwise it would look like the Nedor heroes were fighting with an innocent guy over a legal slab of meat. lol
  11. super-tough to read more than a page or two, do you mean? hey not all the stories are bad....some of them are quite entertaining...nothing like a good marvel mystery #77 though (gag!) gator
  12. Fantastic, Rick. What's the size of it? hello all... it is a 14" x 19.5"....I can hardly wait!!!! thanks to Ryan, and thanks for all the kudos...I am almost ready to commission another! rick WOW WOW and WOW!!! Congrats on that one Rick!!! (thumbs u
  13. Thanks! Truth be told I feel your point is more valid overall and I totally understand where you are coming from. Bat #1 is the mess!!!!! I mean just look at the significance. The first issue of Batman's very own title as well as the the first appearance of the most important villain in comic history! Who wouldn't want a copy
  14. I know that this post will likely get pushed aside on account of the huge argument that is a brewing....but I will give it a shot. I agree that as historical importance goes Bat #1 is in a diffent leaugue than MF 52! Is bat #1 a better long term investment that MF #52? Of course! Is bat #1 demand going to go up while MF #52 demand will stay stagnent? You bet your ! My argument is that I personally would rather have the MF #52 mostly because it is a better looking book in high grade! Bat #1 is a good looking book but from mid grade up it doesn't present TOO much different. I would be just as happy with a 5.0 as I would a 8.5. Now with the MF #52 the difference, at least in how it presents, between a 9.2 and 5.0 is huge. I feel the same way about a lot of simple one color covers. Tec #1 is another good example. In general though Bat #1 is a far more superior book! No argument there.
  15. It pains me to say More Fun #52, being as big a batman fan as I am. Finding a nice Bat #1 isn't nearly as hard as finding a nice MF#52! You may not find another 8.5 but a 6.0 or up should pop up for sale eventually. I can't say the same for the MF. You also have to factor the 9.2 grade and Larson pedigree on the MF. The glue is no biggy for me......I have the New Adventure #19 Larson that got a purple label because of glue and it doesn't bother me in the least. I can surely understand how it might bother others though. There you go!!
  16. Richard you should do your buddy Ronaldo a big favor and post that Church Jumbo #14 so he can salivate over it some more! Nice early Whiz (thumbs u
  17. Johnny, how long you reckon it's been since these two bad boys were back to back in a short box? i hope they're happy again. Always nice when old friends reunite! Sweet Chicago MMC's!!!!
