Just an awesome group shot...love that ADV #43

Just won on Clink auction!
Underbidder

This book was shown in the "Detroit Trolley" thread as part of a group shot....didn't know if you guys saw it. VF++ unrestored OW/W pages #29. I do not collect Fiction House comics, but had to have this high grade gem as soon as I saw it!

Here's one you don't see too often - a Schomburg cover, Gerber 8 no-show. I wasn't actively looking for this book as they usually go for quite a bit, but I saw it listed during the VCC and it's such a cool cover I had to snag it. This copy's low grade, but the cover is complete and it was priced right!
I have never seen that cover before......WOW is all I can say....nice pick up drbanner

Just got this back from CGC.....
Ronaldo repeat after me....."I will not start collecting Timely's"....."I will not start collecting Timely's"
Great Caps!!

Steve the spine on the back looks amazing. You have a gem on your hands, has it made its way to CGC yet?
Thanks!
It was sent out for grading today.....I originally thought it would be a 7.0 from the sellers scans, but now that it's in hand and I've objectively and thoroughly assessed it, I think 7.5 or MAYBE even 8.0 is more realistic.
Drinks are on me for the entire Boards if I receive an 8.0 !!
Steve
Good luck Steve....I hoping for 8.5
I like to be optimistic

More funy books please - any pre-Batman Tecs
I'd check in with RareHighGrade first to make sure he has a paramedic standing by!
STEVE
My paramedic is standing by, so you can now (at long last) post those pre-hero Tecs BZ.
Ill make that a double

an "issue" at the bottom of the spine/back cover, but overall a pretty nice unrestored off-white paged book
Steve,
You need to sell this nice book to one of these Timely guys who will truly appreciate it.
Richard
I am....and here's the back cover. The book is at CGC right now......what grade do you guys think they will give it? This one is throwing me a bit.....I can usually hit the nail on the head, but my prediction hammer is pretty wobbly on this one .
I'll post the results next week, and we can see who got it right
Sorry Rick....I don't think this is the book for you.
Hey Timely guys.....interested? You see Rick said his "sweet spot" for books is 5.0. Since this copy was graded today at 6.0.......I guess it's not what Rick is looking for
Universal / cream to off-white / label notes: "full page ad for Sub-Mariner Comics #1."
...guess it's back to the drawing board for me as a seller.....Hey Mr.Bedrock, think we can work something out?
Steve
ok, I'll make an exception and take the 6.0!
nice
rick
.......Sweet!

Probably more like the Ten Commandments stone tablets.
Ten Commandments - CGC 2.0 with SA Restoration.....stone cleaned with slight chisel touch

Nah, that would be EASY. I'm thinking some Sun Records label Elvis 45s, maybe a couple Warlock albums. Oh, and the original Robert Johnson 78s from 1937.
If you do pull those out, btw, I'm going to have a heart attack.
If it wasn't so late, I'd be tempted to take a photo of my Blind Lemon Jefferson on Paramount or a group of Sun Records.
Instead...this will have to do.
The Beatles first recording (promo copy).
WOW.......Bangzoom for President!!!!!!!!

Here is my unrestored Tec 2. Not sure if I've posted it by itself before. Doesn't come close to Eric Roberts' Church copy.
All I can say is
...I always wanted to one day....but now more than ever I want to start collecting these early detectives
I know that you are a big Flessel fan SW. In case you didn't know, this is Flessel's first cover.
I actually didn't.......New Adventure #15 was his second then right?....or was it Tec #3?
-
Tuffest Detective Rick from 1 to 10?
Battle between 2 and 3 ?
I mean do 2 and 3 even exsist any more unrestored??? .Ill bet ya anything 2 and 3 would be Gerber 10s UNRESTORED. They are pure gold. I mean Platnum

Two new hotties just checked in to Club Bedrock!
Getting those darn Metro stickers off the back is a royal pain in the arse!
....wait I mean
-
Got this one awhile ago but thought I would post it anyway.....

A rare misstep from BangZoom, showing us that hunk of non-vintage junk.
Redeem yourself, BZ, pull out the Treaty of Versailles!

Tough call as there are so many issues of HT#1 available and the More Fun would probably be the 2nd highest graded copy after the lone 9.6 one that is out there so I guess at the end of the day I'd go with the Torch but I would flip flop at least 10 times before making a final decision. Steve what would you pick?
a tough call for me as well....they are both my books, and I have a little "ping" in my gut suggesting that I should sell one and keep one ( to free up some cash so I can buy another Pre-Robin Tec! )......wanted to get a feel from you guys as to which may be a better "keeper", and so far the overwhelming choice has been HT1, however, just like you said, the MF62 will be/should be the 2nd highest graded copy ( once graded )...nothing to sneeze at! The MF62 is much rarer in grade, but the HT1 is still high grade-ish, and is a top 20 GA Key.........I can not choose!!!!
I need more people to give their vote
Steve
In my opinion I would keep the 62...you WILL find another HT 1......maybe not a 7.0 or higher right away, but your not very likley to find another 9.4 MF62.......and I would rather have a lower grade HT1 and super high grade MF62 then two mid grade copies of both.
But dare I say....if you want the pre robin tecs enough to sell one in the first place then why not sell both? (thats what I would do )
Either way you can't go wrong!

If you look closely at this cover you can see heath ledger dancing with letters around him
...awesome black joker cover!!!

...best story ever!!!!
It certainly illustrates that Barks was not only an immense talent, he was a super nice guy.
I agree
-
After Barks started selling his paintings for huge sums (or at least what was considered a lot of money in the 70's), I wrote to him and asked if I could commission him to do a pen and ink drawing for me. By return mail I received a finished drawing picturing Barks, seated at an easel, painting Donald and the boys. Behind Barks, is an angry Uncle Scrooge kicking him in the rear. The caption reads: "Tell [my name] you grew tired of doing pen and ink drawings, and besides, have no permission to do such drawings for pay!" Barks responds with a shaky, "YES SIR!"
...best story ever!!!!

BZ, since you're rolling out the Tecs now, is there any chance you might post some pre-Batman issues (1-26)?
Absolutely
Thanks. I'm looking forward to it!
...Me too!!!!

Finally home, and very content...

Let's keep this great thread going.....this is one of my favorite books, pictured here raw. Metro auctioned it off on eBay about 6+ months ago, and Rick (Detective27kid) bought it for $12k-ish, had it graded, and then flipped it to me for $15k. It was a win / win / win (not Centaurman).
It graded VG/F 5.0 unrestored with off-white pages, and is presently the 3rd highest graded unrestored copy, right behind the Crippen copy - 5.5. Thanks again Rick !!! I LOVE this book !!
Steve
...Steve you must have been on
My third favorite tec behind 29 and 31!!!
