  1. Exactly. Agreed as it's now online for sale at hastings website What is weird is I saw it for sale yesterday morning too, but the status was "pre-order". But when I checked in the afternoon, it showed "sold out". I just checked and now it is "Usually ships within 24 hours" and available. This reminds me of when they had the Star Wars 1 about a year and a half ago. I order 2 when I first heard about the Hastings exclusive and within days it was sold out. A week or two later, I went back to the site and they were available again, so I ordered 2 more. Very strange. Just for grins, I looked at the Hastings website and the B&W exclusive Amazing Spider-man 1 is out of stock again. That's twice now I could have snagged a copy. I jumped back on the Hastings website this morning and managed to snag a copy of the black & white ASM #1 Hastings Exclusive before they ran out again.
  2. That Moon Knight #29 is tough to find in 9.8 due to that all black cover. Only 4 9.8s on the census. (thumbs u And welcome to the boards!
  3. The black and white variant says "out of stock".
  4. And you'll probably get a lot of offers for it. Nice find!
  5. It won't do as well as the regular The Strain series will but it just might ride on its coattails pretty well.
  6. The main reason I started this thread - to see great finds like this week after week.
  7. He is a friend who knows you are into comics, so you get preferential treatment, and he asked you to pay half of what it is worth when you found a $100 book in a pile...and you gave him $1.50...? Seems a bit dishonest, IMO. Sounds like you are proud of the fact that you took advantage of him. Am I missing something here? Half Price Books would have put the book out for sale for a dollar. Not necessarily. Most HPB stores have a locked box in the comics section for more "valuable" comics. As to who or what determines what goes in there, and at what price, I am not sure. For instance, the one by me has Wolverine Minis 2-4 for about $25 each; some old Crime-related comics; and a Secret Wars #8 that I picked for $10 with my credit. There was also another post around the boards with a store stocking an ASM #50 for $300. Our local Half Price Books store has the same kind of lockbox. Most of the comics in there are priced from $5 on up. Last fall I was shocked to find a bunch of Tales of Suspense and 1970s Justice League of America in that lock box in mid to high grade. And to make it even better I had a 50% off coupon at the time. I kept the higher grade stuff for my own collection and sold the rest on eBay for about 3 times what I paid for them.
  8. I'm unable to locate the info with various searches. Can the person who listed the print runs for ASM V2 #1 thru #30 bump that post again? I'm pretty sure it was in this thread but it may have been in the ASM Appreciation Thread.
  9. Catwoman 72 The Zatanna cover? I hope so because I picked up 2 or 3 nice copies in the last year just because I loved the cover.
  10. That reminds me of one time when I was about 11 or 12. We were at my Grandma's house and my cousin's mom told him to do something. He said "Eat me raw!" and I was both appalled and dying with laughter at the same time.
  11. I had a toy Freddy Kruger glove when I was a kid in the 80's. No one said anything about that back then. And when I was a kid back in the early 60s (yes, I'm showing my age) we had BB guns, sling shots, air rifles, played with army men and GI Joes and toy machine guns and not once have I ever shot anybody. Not that I didn't want to at times. Remember when the phrase "don't have a cow man" offended some people? I just used that term with my wife the other day. (thumbs u

  13. I'm gonna go out on a Groot limb and say that not only will the movie be a big hit, but Groot and Rocket Raccoon will be the next thing in toys. Start stocking up in August for your kids' Christmas wish lists.
  14. Why the ASM #574? Someone earlier mentioned Venom joining the GOTG. I always disliked Eddie Brock as Venom but enjoyed the idea behind the alien. When Marvel decided Flash would make a great host I was skeptical but the most recent Venom series turned out to be the best incarnation of the character yet. The first appearance of Flash as Venom sells pretty well but if your looking for the story behind Flash losing his legs, this is the issue. It's def undervalued in my opinion. It's actually quite a moving story. I just found 3 sweet copies of ASM #574 at a local Vintage stock yesterday at a BOGO free weekend sale. Total investment about $5.00.
  15. No, they don't. I have re-bagged a few books that I bought at cons that had stickers on the bags and sometimes the stickers do leave marks on the books inside. You might only be able to see the mark if you hold the book at a certain angle or in a certain light. It also probably depends on the thickness of the bag and how tightly the books were packed in a box, and for how long, etc, etc, but it can happen. Yes, it can. I've seen it countless times. That's why I never use stickers for anything and immediately rebag anything with one. Sometimes the dent is extremely deep. Without a doubt stickers will leave impressions over time depending on the way the book is stored. Even the flap of a bag could leave an impression if stored too tightly together. This is correct. I've seen that too. (thumbs u Anybody want to help me remove stickers from about 60,000 comics?
  16. No...they're not price tags. I got into the habit of placing 2 (or more) stickers on the top front of each bag. I've been doing this for over 10 years now. On the 1st sticker I state the issue number and year of publication. Why? Many of the old Gold Key and Whitman comics did not state an issue number on the front cover. You had to look inside to get the issue number. And I like stating the year of publication on the front also. It helps me to sort out Modern books from Economy books when submitting books to CGC. On the 2nd sticker I state the grade and asking price. I'll add more stickers for things like 1st appearances, whether a Marvel value stamp is intact or not or special notes to myself like a cover loose from one staple, centerfold loose, cutout or missing pages, etc. When I first started doing this, I was dumb enough to leave the comic in the bag when I wrote on the stickers. This caused an indentation on the front cover of the book that a few people griped about. I had to learn the hard way. No mas....no mas. And on average, I think I paid about 10 cents each for these books about 6-7 years ago. They came out of a shop in Chicago. So why no stickers on the 239s? That's a good system - and one that probably takes a lot of time. If only more sellers were as helpful. I don't sell at conventions, but I write the grade and comments in pencil on the back of the board. I just hadn't gotten around to placing stickers on the X-Men 239s yet. I took these pictures right after I bought the books 6-7 years ago.
  17. I remember when you talked about picking up that collection, and all the 9.8's that came out of it. Are those price tags on the 221s? What were they going for? No...they're not price tags.
