I looked at the scores and it appears that the JSA slabs are scored higher than Universal and equal to Signature Series. Was this supposed to happen? Is it just temporary before the registry-wide score adjustments occur (if this is still gonna happen)? Thanks!

Heritage had a very interesting auction last night for one of the elusive Bone sketch cards from the first series produced in 1994. This one was graded by CGC which surprised me. I asked them a few years ago why they graded gaming cards but not comic cards so I’m glad this has finally changed As you can probably tell by the avatar I use, this card has always fascinated me. The holy trinity of sketch cards in the early to mid 90s have always been the Art deBart by Matt Groening, the Wildstorm Groo by Sergio Aragones, and Fone Bone by Jeff Smith. I believe the Bone card was the second ever pack-inserted sketch card (after Defective Comics Trading Cards in 1993) as the Barts could only be had via a separate redemption card. The auction description said that this particular example was from the David Sire collection. Not knowing who this was or what it meant, I did a search and, sure enough, his collection included both a Groo and two different Art deBarts, along with several uncut sheets and numerous autographs cards from the 90s I’ve now seen two of these sketch cards come up for sale in 2024. The last one before these was an eBay BIN back in 2014.

Do you know if any Signature Series witnesses will be attending?

I think the buyer got a great deal. With the prices I’ve seen on Bone stuff over the last few months, it’s not surprising.

A few minor factual errors aside, it’s a pretty good summary. Thanks for posting!

A pretty good looking Thorn Tales from the Lantern is up for bid in ComicLink’s Summer Featured Auction. They say it’s an 8.0 VF, which seems fair to me given the wear on the top and bottom of the spine and the general wear on the edges of the front and back cover. IMHO, it looks better overall than the VF copy on Heritage last December. What do you guys think?

Vengeance of Vampirella #1 2nd Printing: Royal Blues vs Greens
DocGo replied to DocGo's topic in Modern Age Comic Books
Hey @CGC Mike, This book, 4443374017, was the latest edition to the census on July 30th and was graded on 7/17/24. Both the images in the eBay auction and the Verify CGC Certification clearly show that it’s a green cover rather than a blue (please confirm @RockMyAmadeus). Please let the database specialist know when you can. For everyone’s viewing pleasure: -

The #94 qualifies but the #75 does not (there is one 9.8 Signature Series book for issue 75). The rules for posting on this thread are in the first post. You can check the CGC census here: https://www.cgccomics.com/census/ -

Got this a couple weeks ago on eBay. I may have paid too much but it’s one of the few 9.8 SS books I need to complete my goal in the registry set (so WTH ). I actually sent in a slabbed 9.8 to last year’s SDCC but…I didn’t look close enough at the book itself. Came back a 9.4. This was definitely not the fault of the facilitator as the original graders made the error and I compounded it by missing the CB crease twice . Anyway, I’m happy to finally take this book off my list. It was signed at the 2014 Heroes Con where I also had a bunch of books done. Fits in nicely. Nine more Signature Series books to go…

The Sword of Azrael #1 is a nice book but it doesn’t qualify for this thread. There are 49 Signature Series 9.8s of this comic and I’m sure the majority of authenticated slabs are currently lone top census (since it’s so early in the process). You could always start a new thread for these though. -

When does the hype train begin for 2024? -
I may be going to Jeff Smith’s only con appearance this season: Bedrock City Con on October 5-6. Was gonna go last year and then…well…you know Jeff appears to have made a full recovery so I think we can laugh about it now Anyone else thinking of attending?
