Awesome book! And if I didn't already have a copy, I would have been all over this one. Congrats!
What were the other 3 Atlas books?
I'll put them up in the morning. Sorry - just finished watching the fight. Very entertaining!

4K is about right.
Turns out it went for $5k. Impressive for what I'll call a "soft" 8.5 from the other guys. Not sure it would get more than an 8.0 from CGC. In any case, a solid price.

Price Guide is 'accurate' by big time dealers who generously offer the collector/seller 80% of Overstreet for GA, SA keys when market value is still 1.5 x of latest ANNUAL guide. e.g. AF #15 in 8.0 or Flash Comics #86 vg unrestored.
This is the fly in the ointment for me. The guide is clearly professionally done and with great attention to detail. For grandma/grandpa on the street who want to sell a collection, why wouldn't they trust the prices to be at least reasonably accurate? The fact that so many books go for so much more than their guide value, while most are a bit more accurate, makes it a minefield for the unsuspecting customer. If only dealers/avid collectors know the secret prices on some books, it might look to some like a bit of a scam. Unintended consequences, clearly, but there you go.

I'm going to get all of the books from this thread shipped out today and get that off my list. Then I'll see what remains but I don't think it's a ton of stuff and nothing really sought after. Pretty random. Although some higher grade randomness.

I have sent out all invoices. Let me know if I missed anyone.
So another story or two from my dad. First of all, he also had a pretty decent sized coin collection that he gave to me as well. The coins were cool but I really had a such a hard time knowing that he saved a 1922 Peace Dollar when he could have bought 10 comics for that money. So his books were basically in 2 groups. The books he picked up when he was little, didn't have much money, and handled them a bit more roughly (basically until the end of the war), and the books he bought when he was older and took better care of (until about 1954 when he joined the army out of college). This is why any war years books were/are coverless and beaten and the PCH stuff is in much better shape. He was definitely a DC guy over Timely. Basically no Timely war books - except for a pretty cool USA Comics 5. For the record, and he'll tell anyone this, there was no one he liked better than Capt. Marvel. And it wasn't even close.

Ok, taking the kids to see Spider-Man and I'll send out invoices when I get home. I've also got a few more odds and ends of books of my dads that I'll post. Some Black Magics and other randoms.

Here's a regret story and a near-regret story that illustrates that for every comic regret, there's an equal and opposite comic triumph.
My dad bought both these books off the rack and I sold the AS8 on ebay about 8-10 years ago for $1800. Before fees. It's beat, but it's complete. The JIM 1, well a few years ago I was asking $1075 and the other guy wouldn't budge off of $1050 so the deal didn't happen. Phew. Not that it totally made up for it...but better than nothing. It's graded as 6.5 but I still think it looks every bit the 8.0.

Operation Peril #8 FN or better
What looks like fading or something on the edges seems to be an ad on the inside front cover that is showing through (it's in yellow). Not sure how to grade that but it does look a little off.
Frankly, I'm just super worried for the cavemen who have to deal with dinosaurs AND spaceships. That's a lot.
$125$90Now $90.

And that is it for my dad's ACGs. Thank you for all of the interest. Actually the old guy turns 85 in a few weeks and he still loves to regale me with stories of reading comics when he was a kid. He said he knew every store in town that sold them and, more importantly, he knew which stores would let you stand there and read through a few of them before they shooed you away or made you buy something.
I'm showing Adventures into the Unknown 17, 50, Operation Peril 7, 8, and Forbidden Worlds 19, 23, 27 as still available. I'll discount whatever is unsold by tonight. Also, I'll send out invoices at that point or tomorrow latest. Again, thank you for the interest.
