  1. This is a great post. Thank you for posting this. It's indeed a beautiful comic (by our deranged standards, ruined by anyone else's). Shame we can't do a Joanna Lumley and get it to tell us everything about itself. I always love DC's 'imaginary' stories (as opposed to the factual Superman stories).
  2. Actually it was a Green Goblin memory stick, a Crusher Creel bathmat and Giant Size Man Thing cup.
  3. Now you're talking. I love the fact that Terrific comics no 1 had an iron-on transfer of Iron Man. I'm sure there's a word for that.....
  4. That's such a cool spot, I don't imagine there'll be any arguments.
  5. Yes, you're right. Paradoxically, the PV's stayed in old money all the way until the GS moment of madness, but the stamps went decimal in Aug/Sept 1970. You have to love the 'still 1/-'.
  6. I was interested but didn't know. I would have guessed Stan, because, well, who else? This is clearly from when he was still middle aged (before he started getting younger).
  7. Indeed, 1/- T&P ink stamps on cents issues. The last epoch of T&P distribution (April 69 to July 71) has both PV's and stamped cents. I've been trying to find examples of all the stamped ones, but some are incredibly rare (others are more plentiful than the PV's).
  8. Should've added: the reason this is interesting is that comics never cost 6p (six new pence) at T&P. This is cd Mar 71, Marvels went up to 6p in December, but by that time, distribution had moved from T&P to World. There could be a million explanations for this sticker, but if it did rock up 9+ months late at T&P, they could have simply stamped it along with their DC's. If however it rocked up at World, it would have to have been stickered or similar as they had no facility for stamping.
  9. There should, by rights, be pre-decimal 1/- stampeys of this but I've yet to find one. And then this happens....
  10. It does look like a 9 but I suspect it's 12......
  11. Why, oh why, did they do this? Oddly the original had the price on it twice for no discernible reason and Len just decided anything they could do....
  12. Doctor Tom Brent and His Flying Nurses 2: The tolerable numbering only goes as far as 57. Afterwards, attempted recognition definitely forlorn. (Not quite).
  13. Right. Comics didn't go up to 10p until 1976, but by 1973/4 there had been enough inflation that the connection to the old money was becoming a bit theoretical. I can remember my grandad being horrified in 1974 that petrol was 50p a gallon (THAT'S TEN BOB!!!) and then a year later it was 73p.
  14. Indeed. What a thought. Thanks for this Albert. I assumed this was a total one off. This is also a 5 stamp where the other one was a 2 stamp yet they're both for 2/-.
  15. I love this question. If you posted this anywhere else, they'd review your meds but here in Stamp Heaven it's a normal Thursday. I've always wanted to know what this is. Normal size Marvel comics NEVER cost 2/- at any point, so this is a massive mark UP on a second hand comic, not down as you'd expect. To an exorbitant price. AND it's been stamped on, anyone ever seen an actual comic dealer do that? AND there are PV's of this, so what is this even doing for sale in the UK? AND how many stamps are even on this? I assume it's just one, but it has an outer circle, an inner circle and a diamond centre. And a number at the top. AND it's a cents copy with no other stamps on it, so it seemingly wasn't sold in the UK at 10d and later resold at a mark up. It was only ever sold, as far as we can see, for 2/-.
  16. It's going to be a swine as it will entail collecting all the associated madness. FF 55 for example, in addition to the presumed Gold Star stamp, also has PV's, that big 1/- shilling stamp and who knows what else. Maybe even T&P stamps......
  17. Fair play. I'm off too (not in that sense). Tears of the Kingdom is here, so I have a princess to rescue. Although I spent most of the last game actually being the princess. (you could at least pretend to be surprised when I say things like that).
  18. You tease telling the story a couple of times on this thread, so it might be here. Marvel UK Price Variants - Page 52 - Silver Age Comic Books - CGC Comic Book Collectors Chat Boards (cgccomics.com)
  19. What will be really hilarious is if I publish and no one responds. At all. (Please don't do that).
