  1. these look good and are all super-fave reads as well. New Tales of Space and Time features Kris Neville's masterpiece novella 'Bettyann', one of the highlights of fifties SF, the best of the best.
  2. Complete Detective has the JW Scott look, and he worked a lot for Red Circle. Catalog (pulpartists.com)
  3. 'Twas I: thank you Black Bat. The Matt Fox book sounds good.
  4. Circling back to GAC's 'Halo' theme above, here's the first pb of 'Blood', and a later first pb of the fourth Paul Pine (1988 Dennis McMillan) written in the mid-1950s. They are classic detective novels.
  5. this will probably be my final Atlas digest acquisition of 2022: a handsome addition to the group... arrival date says it all: 1/1/43: happy 80th
  6. 2 more points of note on Lion: 'twas a Goodman company hence under the 'Atlas' umbrella, and they published some classic Jim Thompson PBOs, including his masterpiece, 'A Hell of a Woman'.
  7. here's a couple of 1946-ish 'digest doubles' that I acquired recently: a complete set as there were only 2 'Two Complete Mystery Stories'. only 3 authors as Hugh Pentecost is nom-de-pulp-2 for Judson Philips. by Century numbering they are #18 and #30.
  8. This was sitting at the tip-top of my want list, where I thought it might stay a while, but the good folks at Kayo Books somehow came up with a solid copy for a bargain price - which I pounced on. So I present the first Atlas crime digest, from 1942, Best Detective Novel #1, with a glorious Cardwell Higgins cover.
  9. Fun: gem of a Paul cover, and I like the spirit of the stamp: Happy Holidays!
  10. A recent Atlas digest pickup (H) paired well with one I already had (D), and contemplating the two made me wonder if any other Treat 'alphabet' books existed in cool pb editions... So I got these: The B cover is a bit tame, but Bonded is a fun series with a distinctive feel and published in Hollywood. Q has one of those semi-surrealistic covers with an awesome palette that were a Dell specialty. T comes on strong with Raymond Johnson's luridly dramatic close-up cover: Avon calling.
  11. bright spines are divine. I've just picked up a couple of Dells and Pop Libs that testify to the worthiness of their publications...
  12. it has been a fabulous collecting jag to round up a batch of Atlas digests in the last few months. the thick cover stock and colorful images are very PB-like, with Cardwell Higgins and Peter Driben both contributing wonderful work. these are all from 1942-1945.
  13. I just picked up a companion piece to Damon's nice Pyramid #22 (they started at #11 and skipped #13...)
