another fresh scan and fable. In those wonderful 'bookstore cruising' days I mentioned above, one trip to Bargain Books in downtown San Diego brought me face-to-face with a copy of the below: pinned in a bag to the wall and priced at one dollar. I was thunderstruck at such an astronomical amount being asked -a wide rushing Rubicon ran right before me- but I crossed it and manned up to pay the price: no regrets.

had to scan this: when I got back from my 'world tour' (selected Europe + Morocco, Afghanistan) funded by selling my GA collection in 1969 I was broke but still managed to put together one of my most important collections: I resolved to acquire and read every vintage pb sf anthology I could find. Cost was the fun of cruising bookstores (+ 'Pocket' change) and deep immersion into classic sf short stories, novelettes, and novellas. At any rate: this was the oldest (not this copy) of the group: first print: March 1943.

Complete Detective has the JW Scott look, and he worked a lot for Red Circle.

This was sitting at the tip-top of my want list, where I thought it might stay a while, but the good folks at Kayo Books somehow came up with a solid copy for a bargain price - which I pounced on. So I present the first Atlas crime digest, from 1942, Best Detective Novel #1, with a glorious Cardwell Higgins cover.

Fun: gem of a Paul cover, and I like the spirit of the stamp: Happy Holidays!

A recent Atlas digest pickup (H) paired well with one I already had (D), and contemplating the two made me wonder if any other Treat 'alphabet' books existed in cool pb editions... So I got these:
The B cover is a bit tame, but Bonded is a fun series with a distinctive feel and published in Hollywood.
Q has one of those semi-surrealistic covers with an awesome palette that were a Dell specialty.
T comes on strong with Raymond Johnson's luridly dramatic close-up cover: Avon calling.- Book Guy, OtherEric, PopKulture and 8 others
