  1. Here's a pictorial of my ASM collection as I had it in 2014, before stopping. I'd like a display of what I put together over a lot of years, from raw books in the 70's, to most of what it became with CGC books ten years ago. The 9.2 ASM 2 and #8 are the only two I'm sure became part of my collection, both I found in about 1990. I loved my old Annual 1, perfectly centered, but it came back 9.0 purple. Someone had touched the bottom spine edge where the black line is. I sold that to Tom M later when I found a 9.2, and then two more I ended up with this copy. I'm sure I'll keep the AF15, the Annual 1, and ASM 50 for a long while yet. The rest I'm currently parting with, about 20-50 are spoken for so far. I hope others enjoy seeing these books, I really enjoyed the time spent hunting for them, and the many good members of this forum who helped me with it. Regards,
  2. Funny, I stopped collecting ASM new from a dealer in the #400 range. I got tired of the way too many variants back then, before they got worse later. I thought one every two weeks was great in Summer, until they began the variants. I got 40+ copies of ASM 361-363, those Carnage issues, and then saw, where do I store all of these. You learn to downsize.
  3. That book is no longer in that old label slab, some people ran it up to get it and resub it. I lost out on many books from bidders buying them to break them out etc. Night,
  4. That is a nice copy, it looks better than VF+ except for the lower right corner/edge.
  5. Thanks guys, I've been too busy for a long while to doing anything with collecting the last few years. I was planning to do things in 2012, time flies. I have hundreds of raw ASM to get graded etc, and like most people hundreds more of stuff not worth paying to grade and sell. Here's my ASM 3 that I'm about ready to decide cannot gain from a regrade, and let it go to a member who nudged me to get back with this. I have to set up my scanner to work on this PC, I don't have many pictures available now.
  6. How about a restored real ASM 1 in a grade you can afford? I sold my copies of AF15 and ASM 1 in 2010 to start hunting restored copies in high grades to fit my collection. Back then you could get them for under $10k, and mid grades were cheap. But those are kind of rare, and you have to be picky about what kind of restoration you are comfortable with. I found a 9.0 AF15 with just the top edge trimmed, and a few touches of ink to the spine edge unseen. I like much better than the two Fine copies I sold. It wasn't about the value, it was the condition and how they fit my collection. I have a GRR of ASM 1 that I'll sell in the near future, I forget if it's a 9.0 or 9.2, those are just like the original except for the cover price.
  7. Cool, and I do remember that years ago. Do you recall my restored 9.0 that I broke out to let Stan sign, and I posted the pictures of it in hand? I have the same view of the interior page, below; I loved seeing it in person, the raw books mean much more than the sealed CGC versions. The smell and the sense of how fragile they are, every one, new or old, is very special.
  8. My AF15 is a restored copy I decided on when I saw the prices for high grades going way out of my league. I sold my original two raw books when they came back as a blue 5.5, and a 6.0 purple. The trimmed 9.0 I bought shortly after, broke it out and then sent it to NY where Stan signed it. It remained a 9.0 in purple/yellow, and I like it more than the two mid grade copies I had.
  9. I've finally begun selling some of my collection. I just shipped off my #13 and 46, #'s 9, 15, and 20 I let go of a week back. I should post the pictures I have of what I had scanned with my old PC. Maybe tomorrow, I am going to miss these books. I loved collecting them all, and reading every one back in the 70's. My 9.0 AF15 I'll keep for sure, and my Annual 1, and my new ASM 50 signed my Romita and Lee. Check out my registry, it will be shrinking soon. Night,
  10. Thanks for the many great stories behind those books. I met several great dealers in the 70's that helped steer me in the right direction. I wasn't in a good location to see many nice ASM come to town, so much of my original collection was hit and miss mail order buys. Lots of crooks back then, the new age of CGC is much better for the newer collectors. For memorabilia, I could take some pictures of the old Marvel Value Stamps, but I don't think anyone wants to admit they cut up 100 comics. I was 9-10 back then, I didn't appreciate comics yet.
  11. Fortunately threads like this are too freeform for someone to attempt to dictate how they should be run. Folks who enjoy discussing a favorite book shouldn't be told that they're doing it wrong. Now Peter Loves Gwen is getting lectured on the "correct" way to watch threads in the AF #15 rebooted thread that's just a warmup for the next rebooted thread. Looks like the original AF #15 thread has been locked. , I have missed that, I need to check my watched threads more often.
  12. I have this thread being watched also. There's usually only a few or 5-10 watched threads that show as having new posts. We all go to those and see what's new, and of course people respond often before wondering if it's an old thread, or replaced etc.
