  1. FYI, in any delivery PO, there is a group of parcel hampers arranged typically in a "U" shape. The parcels for that PO are sorted by one person standing in the middle and individually tossing each one into the right hamper. Small offices might have the person standing within say ten feet of the farthest hamper. Large offices can easily have the farthest hamper some 20 feet or so away. Of course they don't toss the really big or heavy stuff the farthest distance. I mentioned the typical maximum distances and weight. Most of the big stuff is hand carried and set down into hampers or at the carrier's case. It doesn't take much to hurt a poorly packed fragile item. If you have a package with a thin exterior and little to no packing materials, how much does it take to reach the article inside with another parcel tossed on top of it? Imagine that when you pack something, try to build a barrier between the article and the outside box surface. Regards,
  2. Ditto, KUDOs to Tom(trmoore) for a tough 9.4 ASM 58. I'm glad to have it of course, and I like the two pieces of tough plastic that you sandwiched the slab between. I'll use those on nice books I sell soon, and I have some thick plastic like that I can cut that way also. That's a good idea, the CGC slabs can't take all impacts.
  3. Ditto, nice book, and I noticed the CLink auction has a 9.2 #20 in it coming up.
  4. Psst, I am a Rural Carrier. I can tell you that currently Delivery Confirmation in the USPS is not a good tracking method compared to other companies. It is generally a bar code that has a scan only recorded as data(what the customer can see on the website) at the start and end(received time and delivered time). The points along the way where a DC is scanned are only done to figure out who messed up if one gets misplaced or not delivered properly. The affect has been to slow down the carriers in the morning. The clerks who sort the parcels by route now have to delay the carriers from getting them, by scanning them all again. They have been doing this for almost two years now. The parcels may be sorted(not necessarily correctly) at say 8:30 AM, but then they scan the city routes parcels individually, and the PO box section. After doing those they finally begin scanning the other carrier parcels. That takes them about 25 minutes, so the carriers often leave that much later each day. Has anyone noticed how hot it's been? The DC is a nice tool, but it does not help with delivery accuracy or timeliness of any class of parcels. The media mail can still be delayed if overall volume is very high for a given day. The speed of media mail and parcel select or bulk mail is at the mercy of random mail volume. It might go just as fast as 1st class, but if it got buried in a mail volume back up of a big PO, it might not move for days. The 1st class mail and other high priority mail types cannot be put off, ever, by anyone. Yes I know it happens, but I know it doesn't at the delivery end. In any delivery offices, there are frequent inspections by daily supervisors, or actual inspectors(over the head of the post master) who go to offices randomly. Any delays will not be at the end, but at any step from the start location to the delivery location, the big PO's in between. That's where massive volumes of mail are handled, sorted etc, by mail handlers and other drivers or clerks. BTW, everyone in the USPS is an hourly employee except for the Post Masters, Postal Inspectors, or Rural Carriers. We few are on salary, and generally you don't find time wasting examples of those people. If you care about your parcels, and comics are very fragile, then pack them with lots of packing materials, bigger boxes, never envelopes, and avoid slow mail classes like MM. All parcels are tossed, literally, together on top of each other by clerks, into large hampers a distance away from them. Assume each parcel will be hit by another parcel of up to 75 pounds, from a distance of possibly 25 feet. Pack them very well, very very well. Only Registered Mail or Express Mail doesn't go through that normal parcel sorting process. They are hand sorted only, and scanned at each step for each new employee transporting them. Hopefully someday the scanning done on other types of mail will be available for the customers. I know that some of the Delivery Confirmation scans besides start and end are getting recorded for the customer, but very little so far. I think that is in testing to decide which scans to make available, and which not to.
  5. no money, no time..just excuses that I am sick and tired of hearing...i hear these all the damn time and im getting fed up. I will drag him by his balls to the post office tomorrow if its the last thing I do. I dont want him ruining the boards for me Frankly, I would love pics of that; the ball part..... Sorry you got dragged into this. Have no worries, most of us understand and don't hold you responsible. Ditto, we understand.
  6. Tom, I got the #58 today, thanks again. I need to talk to my mailman, that's another insured parcel he just left at the door without a signature.
  7. Kudos to rube11 again. Thanks Steve for another nice ASM, #123.
  8. Welcome, and this is the place to be to manage the collecting. You can pick stuff up here that is much safer than say eBay, not completely secure but much safer. Most of the good sellers you find elsewhere are members here. I'll myself be starting to list my spares very soon. Regards,
  9. Who's got the time machine, where'd that #40 come from?
  10. Amazing #40 there. How had I missed this thread? I'll add pics soon.
  11. A big thanks to Conan(mycomicshop) for the special Conan OPG from the SDCC. It got here fast, yesterday, and it looks great. Regards,
  12. Kudos to campued1010 for a really nice 9.4 ASM 34. Thanks again Andre,
  13. Yes, Kudo's for taking the step to make things right.
  14. Big thanks to Rube11 for a great deal on the 9.6 ASM 59. I appreciate it Steve. Smooth transaction and well packed.
  15. Ditto, and like a probation hearing if the offended party doesn't speak up with a good reason to deny forgiveness... go by most recent behavior.
  16. Kudos to byosti for a beautiful 9.6 ASM 129. Thanks Robert for the fast trade. http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Main=193751&Number=4055999#Post4055999
  17. Ditto to Brent, I received seven nice books from him today.
  18. Big thanks to CDaBruce for two of the ASM he linked to on eBay. Very quick and well packed. Regards,
  19. Ditto, that kind of question demands to be clear in the asking. That's just like butchering the English language in a thousand ways we hear all the time. It's wrong but it's so common that most people don't see that. Discussions like this bring up the subject and point out the problems. Hopefully this does teach some people to be very specific when they speak or write. Night,
  20. A big thanks to Billy the Kidd for his sales thread, and the great book. He shipped it quick and packed it right.
  21. that 5guys burgers is pretty good too...yum their fries suck though Not so, sir. 5 guys is the Never heard of 5guys. Just looked it up and saw that there is one about 5 minutes away. run, don't walk!!! They opened one right around the corner from where I work, but they opened it the week after I had my heart attack. I've not had a burger since, and it's like torture for people to tell me how good their burgers are. All the guys at work eat them in front of me making their orgasmic noises. I've never had one, and probably never will. my brother in law had quadruple bypass a few years ago...but, if you do anything in moderation, the doctors allow him the occasional burger...maybe you can too Oh, I'm allowed to have a sin meal from time to time, but I'd have to blow a whole month's worth of sin days just for one of their burgers. Do you realize how hard it is to eat well without a sin day for a whole month? Personally, I think their burgers are being grossly over-rated on this board. Are they good? Yes. Are they anywhere near the best I have ever had? Not even close. I have had much better burgers. Ditto, I had their double cheeseburger and small fries on Tuesday. The burgers are good, but not $5.09 good. The single is $4.09, so it suggests the double is a must upgrade for a dollar. The $2.69 small fries however are great, home style cut with skins still on them. They fill a medium sized fry holder and pour fries over that in a bag. A 1/4 bag of fries is a good deal as good as they are. I ate it all, and skipped the $2+ drink. My first visit was $10.82, be sure to bring a CC.
  22. That dark cover is really hard to find like that, like an ASM28 the next month.
