  1. Just one more reason that you should have been here a length of time and even X number of posts before selling here.

Then I have a question, I bought a comic from someone here that has over 14,000 that was in Sept. He sent the cgc comic broken, I sent it back he said he would have it fixed and sent back. I have sent him a pm and he has not responded and has posted since I sent the pm. Should I nominate him for the list? This all started back in Sept.

    Yes (thumbs u

To the OP, did the seller state he was going to get the book reholdered and return it to you? Is that what you mean when you say "fixed"?

If this is the case, given the backlog at CGC, is it reasonable for him to be able to have accomplished this already?

The non-communication bit is worrying, but is he in the hurricane affected area of the U.S.?

    What hurricane? :kidaround:

The reholder service is supposed to take about 15 business days, and is not behind.

  2. So I just noticed this ASM #10 8.0 that sold on CLink in the past few days... For triple the GPA average ($2,250). Am I missing something, or does someone think it can press to a 9.2 (break even) or better?

    ASM #10 CGC 8.0 sells for $2250

It really makes the white paged 7.5 I bought last month look like a great deal...

That looks like a 9.6 copy with a couple of minor defects, maybe a stain somewhere etc. It is beautiful. That makes you think that somehow there was communication between the seller and buyer, for CLink that would be different.

  3. No, I messaged him about it and then just decided to cancel it. No use dealing with it or him so I offered it to the 2nd highest bidder.

Did the 2nd highest bidder agree to purchase it?

Not yet but I would rather relist it at this point if the 2nd highest does not want to buy it. Like I said, I never actually asked for him to go on the list since I didn't even think it was possible for an eBay transaction. I was venting last night so let it sit here and serve as a warning for people dealing with him in the future.

I don't have an opinion but just based on Darrell's avatar logo, i'm going to disagree with him :baiting::grin:

If you really want to hurt me you can just quote me and say NC State and I will go cry in the corner again.

NC State, doh!, them we could handle. :screwy:

  4. That "smear" you mention looks like an abrasion to me. I suspect that CGC saw it that way and the 9.6 was their call due to that.

I have not collected many modern slabs, or had any graded. But I think CGC grades all books past about 1980 differently.

I saw the same thing in grading by dealers in the 70's, but it only seemed to matter on old books. I bought a "MINT" ASM 1 from Robert Crestohl in 1976. He sent a book that was no better than VGF, by the standards back then, Overstreet. I returned the book, he had pricing for five grades, yet sent me a 2nd level grade book for the 5th level price. Bob Crestohl was a crook.

I do wish CC would grade all books the same. If that box of NOS books you have are all(say 75%) 9.8's by normal standards, then they should all(75%) get that grade. As you seem to indicate, the modern books get down graded for trivial defects, same defects which would be ignored on SA or GA books. The printing defects are ignored on older books, the same should apply to books of any age.

  5. Interesting, you guys are good.

How can the seller have bought those in 2008 if the Hulk was just graded last month, and the AF 15 was just sold on HA this Spring?

That is my old AF 15 that I had graded in October 2010, and sold last Spring here to Bob.

  6. Hi as I can already see you guys are putting my name on blast hmmm. You guys need to get your facts straight before putting my name on blast Kong!!! I am a single mother & yes I did make that WTB post. Yes, WalkingDeadComics was the 1st to comment in the Thread because the WTB was for his children. My boys are very Thankful for the other 2 boardies that helped with their SPAWN Comics. I opened this account for my twins because their dad had one and when they were at their dads Josh was logged in from my account on his computer and accidently left it signed in, WalkingDeadComics started a Sales Thread not realizing it was signed under my name. My boy's father & I are no longer together due to my personal reasons which is no ones business but his & mine. My boys read these threads when they get time from school & football so I appreciate if you have any questions to message me and I will respond. If you have problems with my ex then contact him I don't want to be bothered with his business because I am trying to raise my boys and don't have time for his mess!!!

Right, so instead of giving some comics to his kids next time he sees them (which he obviously does since you say so right here) he offers to mail you some if you pay for shipping and you thank him later in the thread for getting them some comics. Sounds like your BS story is completely unraveled since you can't keep all of your shill accounts straight.

If you HAVE TO KNOW my boys go to his house ONCE A MONTH since I left HIM!!!

Well, it's nice that he will at least send them comics if you pay for shipping...very kind...and if your kids are really reading, you might want to watch your language...

I bet she doesn't know that all of her cussing is visible to her children(not edited) if they quote it and hit the "Switch to Full Reply Screen" link. Stupid person_without_enough_empathy.

Since her posts have been quoted by others, her children can go through and see everything she actually typed. She thinks the forum censoring protects her children from seeing the true words being typed. That's not very smart parenting.

  7. When making an offer via PM, in addition to my offer, I like to make mention that my offer is good til or expires at such and such a time. I dont want to make any offer and days elapse and without warning a seller may say okay its a deal/ pay me (stops me from buying something else). I think its wise to add a time to your offer, not to pressure a seller, but to move things along and make clear that offer is not binding if a seller doesnt respond or even check messeges for that matter after a noted time. Comments?

That seems like a perfectly acceptable practice.

That is smart, I like it.

  8. Just a general refresher"

    1) If you nominate someone for the Probation List PLEASE FOLLOW UP.

    2) it is OK to bring up a problem before the 30 day wait, as that is often enough to get the issue resolved.

    3) If nothing happens after the 30 days, and after you have sent the new PM letting them know they are being nominated for the PL, wait the 3 days. The come back and FOLLOW UP.

Some people are not FOLLOWING UP.

    Please FOLLOW UP.

    Thank you.

"Don't you presume to tell me how to follow-up!" - Sean Connery, Medicine Man.

Say that line in your best Sean Connery voice. Go on, do it.

    You know you want to.

That is a great movie, with Lorraine Bracco. She looked good with a blue tattoo on her forehead.

  9. I either did something really dumb or really smart, I just havent gotten that far yet with this book, but one thing for sure I will be having someone attempt to removal of any and all glue, press it for good measure and resub :wishluck:

    http://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?id=460587

I just could not resist the eye appeal front and back and how much could a small amount of glue be to remove. I will update on my ordeal later on.

    Good luck there.

I was thinking you bought the 9.0 copy with a little resto, oh wait that was a JIM 83. doh!

I was wondering what that one sold for.

Sold for a hefty $9100! Strong price me thinks. Who knows how severe the glue is on the spine as well as the amateur color touch on the cover.

    Wow, thanks.

I'd love to have the big keys as restored copies, to present better than LG choices. But that is getting on up there.

  11. Good advice. When I mentioned shipping a short box I should have clarified. It was an example more for weight and size for the discussion of shipping charges. When I ship a short box it is in a CGC box (15 count box) surrounded by peanuts and I can ship it for $65 anywhere in the US. I believe the weighting this case is about 40 lbs.

This shipment could have used the same box and would have weighed about 10 lbs.

I'm sure that your seller made some mistakes in that shipping, I'd hope that at least he will learn from the experience, no matter who pays the bill or portion of it this time.

I've shipped 85lb truck transfer cases that took a bunch of time just to fill the "box", and the cost was around $50 by DHL back then when they were here. Finding the ideal main outer box is the biggest step. With the right box, you can improvise the inside packing.

I like to use two boxes, one which is very tightly matched to the items, and a larger one that has enough surrounding space to fill it with packing materials. I keep saving the really thick CGC boxes, planning to use them some day for heavy groups of comics. I'll do my raw books eventually.

  12. Looking for opinions. Being as I am one of the parties involved I will try not to be biased but likely won't be able to.

I purchased a large lot of comics from a boardie. Paid for the comics and decided I would pay for postage later since he was unfamiliar with how much it would cost.

" I'll ship it and tell you exact postage once the books are in the mail. I'm probably going to send the raw books in one package and the slabs in another package b/c I think it will be more safe and less expensive unless you want me to do it otherwise. "

I waited for the comics and received 3 packages. One VERY LARGE box, a medium priority and a poster tube. Total postage was $90+. The deal was about 35 raw comics, 2 CGC's and a poster. Without discussing any other factors I am of the opinion that I should pay the reasonable shipping charge and the remainder the seller should count as a learning experience.

    Thoughts?

Maybe you've tried too hard to appear unbiased because the quoted portion shows that the guy gave you a heads up on his plans and an opportunity to give your instructions before he shipped.....if you didn't respond with your preferences or share your knowledge to help him (since he's clearly unfamiliar with shipping to Canada) then I'd say you should honour your commitment to pay full postage.

The opportunity to provide him with a "learning experience" was before he shipped.

    2c

I quoted this part as it does show the entire picture for me. The reason I let it go is part of the quote being he believed his method was less expensive. The issue I have with covering the entire amount (other than the cost) is that there is no responsibility placed on the seller to research the shipping methods.

I agree that I could have held his hand but I do not agree that it is a "shipping to Canada" issue. The packing methods used would have substantially increased the cost within the US as well. The size of the large box is easily 2-3 times the size required for the entire shipment which was sent in 3 packages.

So in the future should I set a maximum? I realize I am more experienced but by comparison I can ship an entire full short box for $65 anywhere in the US. The postage on this should have been <$45.

I do not know the details of the items in question or the weights, or values. But I can say safely that the total cost will vary greatly depending on whether any insurance is used, and if things are packed with the intention of safe guarding them from shipping damage.

For example, shipping any comic box full of comics is bad packing, if you just slap tape on it with a shipping label. That is a zero protection parcel, there is no protection from any impacts at any angle.

If parcels were only lifted by hand and gently set down, then no damage would occur. In the USPS, all parcels are thrown or tossed, if they physically can be, into large hampers, during many steps of sorting. Parcels are tossed onto other parcels, or the hard bottom of the hamper, or a steel cage(5'x5'x3' deep). You have no idea or control of what random parcels will be tossed onto your parcel.

Keeping these facts in mind, please pack all parcels as if you knew it was going to be tossed, and that other heavy parcels will land on top of yours. That means there must be some kind of packing material around items, all the way around, and it has to be thick material, something which will absorb some force of impacts. Bubble wrap and peanuts do that, paper does not absorb impacts. Paper crushes to a zero thickness, instantly, and that allows any force to go straight through the paper(crushed), into the item inside.

So, when you ship things, or pay someone else to ship items to you, discuss the insurance, and the method of packing the items. The postage costs are minor issues compared to the importance of the packing labor and methods. New members hardly know any of this, so help them to help everyone by learning what's best.

  13. The book is going out tomorrow. Modern fast track. Like I said, I just want to establish a reference for my own good. I don't really expect this to come back as a 9.9.

The good news is that I have another raw copy of the same issue that is in BETTER condition than the one pictured. I will definitely keep everyone updated on the grade.

I will also be cracking open a third box this weekend. I won't go insane with the pics from here on out unless I find something truly interesting or different. Stay tuned!

If there are plenty to choose from which you believe are 9.8's are better, and the 9.8's are worthy to slab, send in several. Give the grader's a chance to call one a 9.9, from several books.
