Thought the boards would find this item interesting which I picked up a while back..from 1944.

There's nothing like instilling the fear of getting blown up with a hand grenade while in a Jeep to get kids to remember their letters.

 We have a screenshot of TOS #39 8.5 sold(presumably) by Rick Probstein at auction for just over 29k.  We see another TOS #39 (different serial number) listed as 'sold" for a BIN of 50k from Gary Dolgoff which we know didn't sell as he put the same book(same serial #) right back up for a BIN of 45k, where it currently entertains random watchers.

I don't get what we're supposed to take away from this other than the fallibility of the GPA record, not auction vs. BIN results.

Problem with "buy it now" in completed listings is it does not show you the actual sales price.  That seller could have made a private offer to buyer through ebay messages for $28,000 and we wouldn't know the difference.  Unlikely in this scenario, but who knows.  More importantly I would not be shipping $30,000 books through the mail to unknown buyers based on how easily claims can be reversed through paypal.

 

I think when the full price is accepted, the price shows as it is shown above. When a lower price is accepted, it shows that price but with a line through it and it reads "Best offer accepted", as shown in the example below. 

These are about 12 days apart from each other assuming the sales are legit of course. (Not my sales for the record.)

Did someone actually write on the cover to let people know someone wrote on the inside?   what a pity

Ok not so Marvelous. I thought the stain on the back initially was distributor ink but it does bleed through to a couple of the back pages. Opinions appreciated.

It's a genuine cover proof that was signed by Bob Overstreet. It's identical to the cover that's on the guide now, just in NM condition.

Really tempted to swap the covers and take the green label.

well....why switch it out? couldn't it be the first "double cover" copy instead? 

I think its a 9.0 as well

9.2 assuming those are printing error creases on the back cover and not ink lines and that it gets pressed and cleaned

is that ink blotch on the spine some misplaced distributor ink? I think if you press this by an expert and clean it it could get an 8.5

Just a crazy idea here...but I would think the graders SHOULD know if a book has been pressed by CCS because they are all under the same umbrella/company - and if the graders DO detect a pressable/cleanable bend, dent defect etc... they should bring it to CCS's attention BEFORE they grade/add it to the notes. They could then potentially kick it back and say "hey, there are still pressable defects on this book... can you take a look at it again to see if they can be removed like, now... or did you try your best and they simply aren't fixable?" 

I'm confused why this isn't happening to be honest.

Where are you based? Interesting that "Premachuk" is a very rare name - I can only find 2 in the USA and they appear to be married and are in Saint Petersburg and 3 with that last name in canada

6.0 and 6.5 after cleaning and pressing out that crease in green lanterns right shoulder and any others not visible 

This is cool - I thought his first book was Tally Ho? Whats Coo Coo?
