  1. :applause: 5/21/08 PROBATION UPDATE :applause:

The following Forum Members are currently on "probation" for failure to complete a transaction in good faith after one month's time:

    Joker-Fish

    (added 8/9/07)

OK Fish, you're busted, what was your crime and who was the victim? Time to fess up and face the music.

Colonel Mustard was found dead in the den and I did it with a candle holder.

If any of the apple polishers here want to keep outing people, maybe they should keep up with current events and at least save a copy of the probation list as its updated.

    Enlighten us.

  2. Metro is OK, but I would rather peruse through books in long boxes and come up with gems rather than me calling up and having specific books pulled for me and then inspecting them...I felt that I lost the thrill of the hunt. The place has its charm - vintage movie posters, framed original art, but not much of a store...they're really there as a warehouse for mail order. The funny thing was that I waited around for a bit and just wandered about and ran into a stack of original comic art for and Action Comics 170ish that was just lying around on a stack of boxes.

The only regret I have was that I was planning on going to the Time Machine but the day that I went, Tuesday, they were closed. doh! Who closes on a Tuesday????

I have to preface my opinions of NYC by disclosing that's where I grew up. I think NYC is wonderful and the best place to live, in my opinion. I took my family to all the museums, ate hot dogs, pizza, kinishes, and took in a concert at Lincoln Center.

  3. Hi, I'm new to this thread ( and Collector's Society). Sadly, unlike most of you, I'm not collecting, but liquidating. I've had many of my comics from day one. I've chosen to slab some of my books to remove doubt from the equation. Not that I have 100% confidence in CGC, but it seems better than the alternatives. This forum seems prime for attracting true Spidey fans. I can think of no better home for my books.

I'm requesting your opinions as to how I should/could proceed. I have a complete run from 1-100 in varying grades, but realistically doubt that has any value. Everyone is looking for a few missing books, right?

I have only submitted a dozen or so books to CGC, and I'm not convinced of the value on submitting books under $100. So, registering my entire collection is rather misleading, since it seems only graded books are included.

I welcome any comments or advice. I'll gladly share images of any of my books .

    Thanks. Joe

I would strongly agree that books with less than $100 should not be submitted...that's actually about borderline as your cost for slabbing will be at least $35/book...

Post for starters issues 1-10 in the PGM-book Thread and we'll help with the grades and values...once the price is right for both seller and buyer, ASM always gets snapped up in 24-48 hours...especially for issues 1-50... :headbang:

24-48 Hours? Make that 24-48 minutes, if that, especially if they are priced propperly. Spideys are typically good sellers in that range...just ask trmoore54, he's sold me quite a few in my collection...all his under coppies.

  4. ASM # 10 DISCUSSION...

I posted this on an ASM 10 Buddy Can You Spare A Grade thread...but I haven't seen like discussion in past...interested in what others think about this cover...

I am an ASM collector and have owned this book for the better part of 40 years...this is a very interesting cover in the Ditko lineage...it is one of the rare Ditko/Kirby cover collaborations in the series...it has ALL the appearance of a rush/deadline dash-off...the only background whatsoever is the shadows of the Enforcers...the lack of depth behind Spidey and no shadow serves up perhaps the most 2-dimensional cover of all time...I mean, check out that left leg...flatter than a pancake...

Even though this is a great story in the rank, this cover has always bothered me artistically...

Photo if you don't have the book handy...

40 Years! Glad to know there are a few people older than me. :) Nice book, Tom.

The simplicity of the cover doesn't bother me at all...the one thing that bugs me is that pesky "L" in LEARN. I've seen a few with the L that's not on the spine. For the longest time I thought my low grade copy had just dropped the letter altogether.

  5. Kevin,

If I'm bringing books that already have been grade lets say CGC 9.8 and want them signed then you or someone from cgc will crack it open have it signed then reslab it at the grade it had ??

    -OR-

Does the person who owns the book have to break it open before it gets signed & the grade is no longer a cgc 9.8 ??

I'm not Kevin, but I did this at the last con I went to. I took the slab into the show and gave it to CGC to have it signed. They took it, broke it open, stood in line and got it signed and they take it back to Sarasota. It gets graded again, so your previous grade is NOT guaranteed.
