  1. In Rick's defense, it is a matter of economics and avarice. I once had a run of Batman 1 - 500. I really enjoyed putting the run together and Batman is clearly my favorite. But, a few years after it was done, the desire to conquer more runs, issues, keys, etc was overwheling. So, I sold them all to Rob Hughes. It was a tough decision. But, like Rick I am a victim of comic avarice and made the choice. I miss them sometimes even know, and it has been 10 years since I sold them. I find it interesting that I can't even begin to conceive of the idea of putting that run together again. I guess that itch is truly scratched. Like Rick, I try to keep my comic money separate from my "real" money. But, unlike Rick, it doesn't always work that way for me (since he has wealth beyond the dreams of avarice), but I do try. Thanks for the useful post (thumbs u (thumbs u
  2. no offense taken... I had, in the past, already completed a batman 1-100 run, so this was my second time doing it (first time was pre cgc)...I love the challenge, but at some point, in order for me to continue to purchase books that I have never owned before (timely's, centaurs), I have to sell books I have in order to finance new purchases (i.e. my comic budget is blown, the well is empty, etc, etc) trust me, I went back and forth, back and forth about selling vs. keeping...one alternative was to hold off new purchases for a while and keep the bat set...but, folks that know me, know I am an "aggressive" buyer...and I would have kept on purchasing, but with debt instead of equity (a road I will not travel down)...and, I do have a near complete Detective run from 27 to 103, mostly books that I had never owned, so I am not "without" my Batman fix! thanks rick Thanks for the useful post (thumbs u (thumbs u I want your Batman #47!
  3. No offense but why would you sell a full run of Batman's? A set like that all to yourself would be a dream come true.
  4. Define "several years ago." This couldn't have been that too recent because for the sake of comic fans around the world no one would allow this to happen. Someone must have been smoking the crack pipe . The OA to these stellar pieces is worth thousands upon thousands of dollars.
  5. Oh some art definitely exists -- the splash pages and panel pages to many pre-hero issues are in the hands of dealers and collectors (I own some pre-hero art -- see my ComicArtFans gallery linked in my Sig). But oddly none of the pre-hero monster covers are known to exist. Not one. Zip. Nada. Zilch. Nobody seems to know what happened to them. There are plenty of theories: 1. They were thrown away. Remember Marvel/Atlas was in serious trouble at the time of the pre-hero monster genre and almost closed its doors. So the theory is that they tossed the art because they didn't have any place to store it, or it wasn't worth the cost to pay for storage. The odd thing about this is that so many complete stories of pre-hero monster original art exist. So if the complete stories are around, what happened to the covers? Why throw away the covers but keep the interiors? Some people have suggested that maybe they got damaged and were thrown away (a leak or flood at the warehouse where they were stored) but again it seems odd that only the covers are gone, not the interiors. 2. They were given away to people who came by the offices of Marvel. This is a common theory but if all the covers were given away, surely some of them would have popped up for sale or at least be in someone's collection who posts on ComicArtFans or other sites. 3. They were stolen from the Marvel storage facility and offices. This is another common theory. But lots of art that didn't get returned to Jack Kirby in the 1980s after his lawsuit has turned up on the market or in collections, so again it's odd that none of these pre-hero monster covers have turned up anywhere. If somebody has them, you'd think that someone else would know about it. Maybe some day they will turn up. After all, people used to think all the Timely art and old DC covers were destroyed and yet a couple of early Batman and Superman covers have turned up and so has some Timely art, so maybe there's still hope.... Thanks for the interesting post! (thumbs u (thumbs u I hope they weren't thrown away that would make me so sad.

  7. That cover is simply amazing.. If you ever wish to sell it PM me immediately. Thanks, Carolina Comics
  8. Not nearly enough.... That TOS 19 is a great book -- excellent monster plant cover! I looked at this thread for 2 hours last night and Rhino I know that you have at least 2 CGC copies so please sell me one!
  9. A single month? That's sick. Amazing, but sick. yeah, I seriously started collecting Caps last month before SD (I had picked up a couple before them from some friends)...I think there are 6 or so at CGC now that I bought in SD and Chicago (I like to buy them raw, and read them, then send to CGC for resto check/slabbing)....I still need 27 issues, but have managed to find 48 of them (I am only collecting 1-75) that were in my desired range (again, I love vg to fine books, but will occasionally buy higher or lower as the "mood" strikes me)...I could complete the run with high grade, but that is some serious dinero, and that restricts my purchases...I just love the books, and I like to be able to "handle" them, so I rather spend , say $X on 4 vg books, than $x on 1 high grade (no offense Bedrock!)... just floats my boat! thanks friends, for the kind words...half the fun is the hunt, half the fun is the books, and the last half is sharing them with your peers and friends! gator It takes some serious dough to put a 1-75 run in any grade
  10. Thanks for the complements ladies and gentlemen! (thumbs u
  11. I love books that have stamps on the cover. To me they are more valuable.
  12. Who are you referring too? Myself? If so I am legal drinking age. Anyways I just don't think its fair to keep purchasing more and more comics while at the same time charging up multiple credit cards. I have heard stores of dealers, I won't mention any names, who have indeed done this in order to acquire certain pieces. Credit card bills that till this day, 10 or 15 years ago, they are still paying off. I just don' t think this right nor fair to seller or others who have the money too pay up front. Thats like saying, you shouldnt buy a home because you dont have the 400-900 thousand in your bank account. No read my post. Yes I believe you can put things on credit cards. Things that are necessary, such as food, clothing, transportation and shelter. I just have a problem when it comes to charging excess frivolous stuff.
