  1. I hear you. CGC always treated me good but they really treat CL good. Same with CVA. My guess is most big dealers get treated well so I am going to let them handle things.
  2. Ever use a auction house? I sent a ton of raws to CL this winter, they got slabbed for a nice discount and back a month or two later to be sold in the april and may auctions. I was pleased with the service. Don't think I will ever send books to cgc again. Just let a VIP do it. Not easy to time the peak and it's a short window. Those books still have decent value.
  3. It can be. But when something you paid $2 or $3 becomes $500 or $800 you gotta do something with it. That's what kids are for. I could be a softie and just hand them out money but I make them earn it. My hobby used to be collecting comics. Now selling comics has become just as interesting. Not sure how interested my kids would be in comics if not for the financial reward. I like seeing the price chart in this thread. Many books I thought were doing strong dropped a nice chunk. It's fun work for us though. But if you wanted to ( and we do ) you could simply ship a ton of books to a half dozen consigners and let them do all the work and just collect your money. My comic shop would store your books for decades for free fully insured and you could just wait until something sold for top dollar. Now they have a limit of few years or you pay fees.
  4. I do it all the time. Some book gets hot because of a tv show or something and you only have a one month window. Ebay buy it now lowest price which is still above fmv and refuse any offers below fmv. Ebay auctions, don't sell unless fmv. Facebook. Instagram. Consignments. All the different auction sites. Not everyone shops at the same market. Some books I really believed in and or wanted variants so I bought 1000 copies. Impossible for me to sell all in a month but so far when they got hot they stayed hot or kept getting hotter. Deadpool rogue blackcat isn't going anywhere but up so that guy has all the time to sell. But some books are tuff. I bought a collection from a bad speculator though actually the pandemic made him look pretty smart. This spring I tried my best to pound out all that drek that doubled in value. Spawn 1 9. They dropped I think $100 almost. Still left holding a few 9s that sold for near 300 and now can't move for near 200. I told my kids get rid of them. I am in them for like $20 or $30. But if you waited they will probably go up some day. So yeah, too much supply and not enough demand. Same with that spider girl Anya. I didn't have nearly as many but the demand was short and the supply was big. It seemed like there was a week window and it went from $500 to $200 or something. I remember it dropped fast. But silk gwen miles aphra ms marvel riri, hot popular stuff you can't flood the market. All those books pictured are safe. They should have been sold years ago though. Maybe hold on black cat if you don't need money to put elsewhere. But Deadpool should have been gone the first movie. Rogue when that ms marvel rumor came out.
  5. I haven't been to the post office in a decade or two. Gemini is fine. In bubble mailer provides some weather protection. Inside a box for more expensive books probably good. 1 book and just Gemini is $4 something? Prices always rising. A mailer and 3 books sneaks in at under a pound I believe. But probably close to $6 so priority may be way to go. Get the day faster, and $100 of insurance that I have no idea if they would actually pay out if something happens. Should be able to ship up to 3 or 4 pounds for $9 or less. If heavier you can get around 10 pounds in flat rate for $16 ( probably more or soon will be) I used to put about 10 books in a box into a stretch out bubble flat rate for $5.95. Not sure what it cost now. Kids handle it all now. Prices seem to raise each year. Flat rate. Cubic. Regional. I know anything under 4 pounds can be shipped anywhere in the 48 for under $10 unless the prices have gone up in the last year.
  6. Most 9.8s I see have bindery tears and a tic or 2. Any book I have without these is a 9.9 or 10. I have more than a few that are sure fire 9.6. Mistakes happen and there are 9.8s that aren't even NM. Its either trust cgc or buy raw. Or buy slabs in person and hope all the pages are in there. I am at 99 some % sure your book isn't resealed. I am 100% sure if I built or bought a machine to slab lower grade comics at higher grades that teen titans 12 would be safe from this scam until it became at least a 5 figure book.
  7. He could liquidate all of them in a month or 2 easily. Get top dollar for each one. He would have to auction them all off at the same time or something to lose money. For an investment strategy it's terrible but if that is how someone likes to collect then cool.
  8. 1. 20 percent buyers premium. I don't know a single big buyer who ignores this. They simply bid 20 percent less than they are willing to pay. Now I have seen tons of books get good money. But I am not willing to take the chance I will be that lucky, still likely to make more money elsewhere, and not going to help line someone's pocket who is possibly buying without paying the premium. 2. Only rookies get scammed. They simply don't have a block list of known scammers. Don't check feedback. Make claims of ebay doesn't allow negative feedback on buyers not knowing to simply look at positive feedback. They ship out of country. They ship to lil or no feedback buyers. I now have enough contacts that I don't need auction houses for good stuff. But I have sold 5 and even a few 6 figure books on ebay with no problem. Most scammers only have a credit card. They can't pay for anything over 10 grand. Unless you ship to people who haven't paid it's hard to get scammed. Every buyer was a well known collector or dealer. If you don't like the buyer you don't ship. You contact ebay, tell them your concern, ask if they will guarantee you won't have to do a return or refund, of course they won't so you cancel order and don't have to worry about fees or negative feedback because ebay recommended that you don't ship to that buyer.
  9. I had success with every fast evaporating glue sticker adhesive remover I tried. Whatever you have already or find the cheapest. Glob or glue be gone? Undu undo. I had a gallon of wallpaper remover that worked great. Take a dropper and put a few drops down, use the bathroom and if it is gone when you get back you got some good stuff. Put small amount in thimble size container, have a couple makeup remover cloths or q tips or something handy and get to work. Start with small amount and light touch on a .50 comic and work your way up. Works great if you are clumsy and use sticky tape, never have a tape pull again. Or just don't use sticky tape to begin with. Give a comic you don't like a tape pull and go to work until you can remove the tape safely.
  10. I find absorene to be slow and light duty. It works for light cleaning. Pages. Gets eraser grit out of creases. It has its uses if you have the time and keep your expectations in check. For sticky residue I use a fast evaporating remover. Experiment on cheap books. Too much product and or pressure can remove ink.
  11. Same here. And not even on the original owner books. I don't like to pay over fmv or even. I have some extra money I need to put somewhere so went 20 to 30 percent over. Didn't win a single one of them. Wasn't even the runner up. My bids got beat by hundreds. Even on under $500 books they got beat by at least a 100. The original owner did great but imagine if he also had the cva sticker on his books!
  12. I never use heritage. They aren't taking 30 percent of my money. If you have some show stoppers that percentage can be lowered but the same goes for other outfits that start out at 10 percent. I like comic link auction. My comic shop buy it now. I have even gotten crazy and sold some 5 figure books on ebay. The $250 plus 3 percent was really tempting. Never had any issues, but don't just ship to anyone, do a few minutes of homework on your buyers. I have no loyalties. Whoever will make me the most money. So that being said. I would consider dealers as well. They will buy and sell it for above market at conventions or a buyer they have lined up. They won't pay as much but it will be cash now and no auction or bank fees. If your keys are elite grade then a collector is the way to go. Remember, not many, i don't know anyone who wants to pay tax, fees, or buyers premiums.
  13. I like the old slabs. Better odds to have been graded strict and not pressed. Seems to me I find more weak 9.8s from 2016 to 2019 ish. 2020 2021 9.8 criteria seems to have tighten up. Also I will see books that look to have a corner damaged during the slabbing. So a book that the graders said was a 9.8 is no longer a 9.8 as it sits in slab. I don't see this as often in older slabs.
  14. Those are the only stores I go to. Only downside is fighting off my enthusiasm as they quote me the overstreet price. Online comparisons are the way to go for the latest worth but why would I go to a shop when it's much easier to find online and shipped to my door. But something is worth what someone is willing to pay. All the major auction houses get enough eyes on your books. Ebay is good if you want to do things yourself. Just make sure you know how to ebay before selling anything good. I just look at current and sold listings. If you shop enough you will just know what the price is. I don't need to look up much.
  15. Most cameos are just advertising to sell the next issue. I would always ask the writer artist what inspired them in creating the character and how they decided how and when to introduce them. And the answer never was hey look at me, i am new and coming in the next book, can't tell you anything else because my creators have no idea what they are going to do with me. I want the first comic book appearance even if that book came out at a later date.
  16. I wouldn't pay more for a slab if raw was cheaper but often enough they are cheaper than raw. Many people still don't press before slabbing. Remove restoration. Add restoration. Can sell book for more raw. Lots of reasons to crack slab but I wouldn't do it unless it was financially beneficial. Would have no limit on cracking. If it's value can be increased then crack it. To crack it and decrease value just to touch and smell it, not for me.
  17. No premium at all. Off whites with ugly wraps that are weak for their grade sell for the same price as perfect centered white. Just need the right buyer which isn't hard to find. If everything is the same who wouldn't rather have white pages. I wouldn't pay extra for them though.
  18. Same here. My kid has been listing minor keys 1 to 2k and says everything is down a hundred or two from august and not much is moving.
  19. I am in the same boat except I had a fire sale this spring. I kept some dc but basically all marvel went. I figure xmen and ff will keep rising as movie rumors heat up but not enough to hold onto at those prices. First dozen years of this century were pretty sweet. Now it seems the first 20 were. I am still buying just as much, just not keys.
  20. I got real problems. I will let Peanuts Worldwide LLC handle this one.
  21. I think you will be waiting for awhile. 2020 was that opportunity. I bought major books that spring for 20 30 even more percent off. Currently things have leveled off and been steady for 4 months. People aren't worried about Ariana Grande. If anything with gift buying season 3 and 4 figure books will rise. January February fall back. Cons and movies will get going full speed. I don't expect to see 2020 prices again for years, decades, or ever unless something drastic happens.
  22. Unfortunately I don't have any or remember. I have plenty that look like they should but if you look close enough in the right lightning they are graded correctly by cgc grading standards. Yours look under graded by the pics though. Didn't think the hulk was over graded. I could see a 3 so a single grade off I can accept.
  23. No data. I don't need it. Every dealer I knew was worried and they all had their best year ever. Ever since then they all had their best year ever every year besides the old school ones in 2020 2021 that didn't take business online. Dark knight and iron man were loved by many. Brought in a lot of new blood. The avengers are coming. I bought a ton of comics around that time. Lots of people did. If you didn't feel good about the market you pulled your money. No reason to put money bank. Either buy real estate or treat yourself. I know a lot of guys who bought cars and bikes. That said. I would give zero value to 2008 as an indication of what may happen now or in the future. The game has changed. 2008 we still had leather helmets. Now there are so many more players. Many of them buy to make money. So many young new people. Some with little attention span, don't know what they are doing. People still had pensions. Now 401. It's in China. Housing market different. Crypto. Online trading and day trading.
