  1. Always a reason and you just gave one. Books I bought for years have popped. No rumor or tv show. They were undervalued and someone other than me realized this, then more people came along. Prices won't increase until there is a change in supply and or demand.
  2. I would say the author is a comic collector. Also any parents may want to consider a more hands on approach for education if they don't already. Should you have to attend an ivy league school to learn this concept? Seems like this should be taught in highschool.
  3. I don't take anything out of a slab unless it makes me more money doing so. But I believe life to be short and I enjoy it so do what makes you happy. Besides if the book isn't tan faded written on or has printing defects or like a 9.8 9.6 you can sell it for just as much raw if you choose to do so.
  4. Does anything go up without a reason? Well maybe my well nevermind.
  5. He didn't say nothing about a top so I would guess yes.
  6. Agree. I had some from buying collections. Even had a cgc because I love the cover. Story character yuck. Movie was solid though.
  7. Maybe a lil sarcasm but I and a lot of collectors dealers will happily sell you truck loads of comics at $1. Heck 50 cents. I have comics that were worth a $1 30 40 years ago, worth a $1 10 years ago, worth a $1 now and inflation would have to get pretty bad for them to be worth $2 in 10 years. And so what if they become $5 $10 $20? What am I going to do with them? I don't have a store, not going to drive them around to conventions and not going to ship them. I don't know about classic form of art collectibles. I mean most books have hundreds or thousands of copies. But financially sure. I mean anyone on this forum who has been actively acquiring keys for 20 years or more has made millions of dollars on comics or will when they sell. Things that were once hundreds or thousands are now thousands and tens of thousands or more if you bought high grade. If you are just starting now good luck. I love making money as much as the next. Each year in the past 3 or 4 years I buy less and less. I don't even think about comics for investment unless I have nothing else to do. Not that they aren't an investment, just not that good of one.
  8. Yeah but what if you don't want your dinner or coffee to get cold? And its a great time to pet the dogs.
  9. Nah. I read the cgcforum. This post has been red flagged.
  10. Everything is personal preference. I like the cover. The 2nd print even more.
  11. I like his costume. Not enough to keep a copy though.
  12. Agree on most. I find giant size story awful but good cover and the 1st appearances. 1st Canadian X-Men? Only slightly more important as justice league Europe or west coast avengers because of the 1st appearances of characters I don't care about.
  13. You might be pickier than me. I don't have any of those but I get it. Deadpool is popular. Iron man drunk always been desirable. Venom 300, todd was the man, fairly original. Carnage is just another venom for me but solid cover.
  14. I am all for a great cover. I personally don't call them keys but can see why people do. If it's worth more than surrounding issues then it's something. What makes something a key is a matter of opinion.
  15. 1st appearance of a wizard magician how original and he isn't even on the cover. Agree
  16. After a handful or so of books everything is a minor key. Iconic cover for majority of people. Just wait until a trailer drops with them fighting or showing that refection in his claws.
  17. This. Where do I begin. How about 1st appearances with terrible covers dc presents 26, avengers annual 10, xmen 244, hawkman 4. Those books could contain the 1st supes or spidey and I wouldn't care. I like my character on the cover. Great covers ruined by garbage. A bunch of text or floating heads, johhny going to college, don't care about karen page. Anything marvel now or dc rebirth. Any modern book with glossy pages that has a reprint. Give me the ultimate fallout 4 reprint. A slightly different bar code and for $2,500 yes how do I say no. Knock off characters. I don't care about the first appearance of catwoman in a marvel comic asm 194 even though decent cover, Hawkeye aka marvels green arrow aka dcs robin hood etc. But I find X-Men to be superior to doom patrol and wolverine is the coolest clawed character and both great covers. Speaking of guys with bows I feel the same about guys with swords and guns and girls, yeah black widow. Punisher has that cool skull, taskmaster deathstroke deadpool all look cool but just guys with guns. I get it, only so many things you can do. Most 1st silver age appearance. Hal Jordan Barry Allen sure. But avengers ff 4 ? They appeared numerous times before that, can care less if its the first time in 8 or 12 years or whatever it is. FF1 a lil too pricey for marvels 1st super team and 1st thing. Besides that I seen a human torch, a stretchy guy, and invisible woman before. And I won't even talk about their first uniforms or car. Last but not least any race sex religion political change. I like spiderman. Don't care about any other spiderman or woman or girl or clone. I like grey green banner hulk. Any other color, sex or race I don't care about. Batman is great. But can care less about any bat woman girl or any of the teenage boys who do the same thing while wearing green panties.
  18. Sounds excellent. Get a truck or trailer and 50 grand and I have at least 40 or 50 thousand comics for you. And your are in luck. Some are already worth $5. You might even get $7 or even $10 for some. Sure you will find a lot of 9.8s that you can slab and sell for $30 or $40. Gets even better. Give me 4 or 5 years and I will have another 20 to 40 thousand for you.
  19. I bought a lot of those this century. I pretty much paid the same price from early 2000s until the show rumors started. At best it kept up with inflation. People are paying more for a lot of things right now, but not comics. I am paying tje same prices I did 6 months ago. A year ago so sellers are losing money. However during the 2008 recession people kept buying comics. So far comics are recession proof but haven't shown to be inflation proof. My guess if anything people will choose food and gas over comics.
  20. Generally (90 some percent of books) they never declined. If you bought some hot drek in the 80s or 90s that declined. If you buy some lame character after a rumor or announcement then you lost money. If you thought comics were undervalued and got caught up in the low census you lost money. The only time comics didn't go up or not much was between the 90s boom and avengers movie. Since then it has been up up up. I don't have many books that haven't doubled tripled or more from pre avengers prices.
  21. You can still read post from 20 years ago. My guess 99 percent of people are wrong. From digital comics killing off printed ones to the bubble is going to burst. Tons of comics have gotten too expensive posts. Read your heart out. Maybe find something interesting to share.
  22. Don't forget your other senses. Smell, touch, and taste. Can you taste any glue? Kidding. Just focus on touch. The stains you are stuck with as far as I know. Unless you want to throw away good money to give it a bath or spend lots of time trying to learn yourself. But look again. Touch and touch and touch some more. Look again. Different angles, different lighting. You don't want any tears closed with glue. The only thing holding the cover to the book should be the staples. Only thing keeping the book together should be the staples. Look for color touch as well. Unlikely they messed it but do you want to take that chance.
  23. I know I can get this book in a cgc 9.8 for under $100 A 9.6 9.4 for under $50 And a NM for under $20 He will win who knows when to clean and when not to clean. All seriousness good work. If you did it perfect only you will know. If you did a good job most buyers graders won't notice. If you did poor then the grade difference won't be much but a eraser rub will blend in better than pencil.
  24. 40% If i get 50 I am thrilled. But I don't send in perfect surefire 9.8 books. The books I send will have a tic or 2 so they could go either way. When the 9.8 is double the 9.6 it's worth the gamble. If they are modern books I don't even prescreen. Dealer price is like $18 or something so I will just take my chances for that. I can sell a 9.6 slab for much more than a raw 9.6. If I did send in what I felt were certain 9.8s I would expect to be near 100%. But I check books well so I don't miss a tic dent bend finger print. Probably have to settle for 90% My books may be 9.8s when they arrive but after a handful of over worked people handle them I dunno.
