  1. Any interest in some mid grade bronze Spideys?

I need to offload some comics as the cupboard under the stairs (the only space I am permitted) is full to bursting!

I have a shortbox full of bronze ASM in mid grade - varies from G/VG to VF - which I thought I might offer up in a thread here this weekend (shrug) I'm too lazy to do ebay these days.

Definately! Still have a few holes to fill in that run.

  2. kudos to dzminn for a nice set of Iron Mans  and a few freebies :cloud9:

I enjoyed going through the old magazines you sent...even the GF picked up the Sports Illustrated issue from 1975 (thumbs u

    Thanks again Dave (thumbs u

lol yeah Annihilus got one of those in his box from dzminn too...the cover had Jimmy Connors wearing some of those old fashioned grape smuggler shorts.....it was a hit at the office  If you look closely, there are ads for hard liquor and cigarettes on nearly every other page!

  3. I was just going to bring that up. All of this:

:takeit: if you knock off 25% and ship for free!! :wishluck::foryou:

Should be via PM, and the ONLY reason to use the :takeit: is if you're buying it at the seller's stated rules.

Yeah, that's definately a problem. A potential buyer may hesitate to post an :takeit: when someone has already made an offer like that out in public for fear that it looks like he/she is trying to snipe the other person.

  4. There probably won't be a lot of interest, but Annihilus is going to start culling out 90% of the DC's from his collection this weekend....most of these (probably 80%) are moderns from the late 80's to early 90's and are in VF/NMish....most never read. There are about 8 longboxes to go through and every book will be scanned so you can see what you'll be getting.

The goal is to get the first two boxes up this weekend which consist of the following titles (in addition to some others):

Action (a few BA Animal Man appearances)

    Adventures of Superman

    Animal Man

    Aquaman

Batman (includes some lower grade SA & BA)

Detective (includes some lower grade BA)

    Doom Patrol

    The Dreaming

    Dr Fate

D-Z will be posted in coming weeks.

Most of these will be $1 (or cheaper) with discounts for buying lots or runs. Shipping for lots of up to 60 books can go in a Priority flat rate box for $9 (learned this from joeypost...thanks!). Everything must go, so if you see something sitting there not moving, throw an offer out.

More particulars will be posted in the sales thread. Thanks for looking (or not!)

  5. I liked it better when you spoke in the third person.

Well, that can certainly be arranged, especially with the backing of a board legend like yourself.

The last time Annihilus tried it here, someone seemed supremely annoyed (deathlok? it's tough to remember). Probably something to do with the newb status, it's hard telling. Maybe they were pissed because CAL had the market cornered on that too?

However, the give-a-shatometer has become less sensitive lately, so it might work out a second time around (shrug) . We could try a 'talk in third person day' here....that's how Annihilus picked up the habit on a different board he trolls.

It's certainly better than talking like a pirate all the time (not to be confused with talking like pirate, the boardie).

  6. I welcome offers via PM. I may not accept them but you can always try.

The only issue there is if someone PM's me an offer and before I can accept it, someone hits the :takeit: in the thread thereby winning the book. I've had a couple people get upset by this and claim their offer was sent before the bin so they should get the book. Of course, that's not the way it works. Once an offer is accepted by the seller, the book is sold and not before. If I happen to be sleeping or busy for a day or 3 and someone bins the book 30 hours after you sent a PM that I haven't seen yet, sorry, you lose.

Absolutely, and that should be a given that the :takeit: trumps a PM. It's a no-brainer if you send someone a PM and you see that someone hit the I'll Take It before your PM gets answered, you're out of luck (regardless of what your offer was).

A polite 'no thanks' or counteroffer is all I'm looking for.

The truth is is that I'm just a really cheap basterd and love to be reminded of it on a daily basis ;)

  7. The mailman just dropped off a couple of FANTASTIC packages to my workplace today. Thanks to:

MikeMosley with 5 SA Thors that are the bomb. Excellent grading...even came in bright and shiny new mylars!

alecholland for the 2 SA X-men with Steranko covers...also top notch grading and in a bomb-proof package.

Annihilus....who is now having a better day than he was

  8. I haven't had any trouble PMing people with offers (blue808, Rich_Henn, and Transplant all come to mind). I can say that I am never offended by a PM. I don't consider any offer insulting and am glad to chat with anybody who makes an offer.

That stinks that you've had trouble with some people. If you'd like a longer list of great boardies that I've PM'd and had no trouble with at all, I'd be happy to send it to you.

No, that's not necessary....it's not (or it wasn't) a prevalent thing, till the last couple of weeks. I wouldn't even necessarily call it 'trouble', but it is a bit disconcerting when it happens. The list of folks that are amenable is a lot longer than the short list of bummers, but like any transaction involving customer service, a person often remember the bad experiences a lot easier than the good ones.

Most folks are great, but, as usual, I'd like to live in a utopia :shy:

  9. This isn't a big deal....but I'm very curious about how most sellers (and buyers too) view 'offers via PM' for a book or books in your selling threads.

From what I can glean from many months of paying attention and participating as a buyer (and a few as a seller) in transactions, it's an accepted form of barter and even an enjoyable part of the process for some. I've been on both ends of these types of transactions, and if a deal is made, great, and if it's not made, then that's fine too.

However, I've noticed lately that some sellers will either not respond at all to an offer, or the response is so acerbic that it not only puts me off the book, but the seller as well. Really, a 'I'm looking for a bit more for that book', or an 'I'm firm on the price of this book' are more than acceptable. Better yet, throw that in the first post of your selling thread.

Worst of all is when that IS stated in the first post of your selling thread, and when someone PM's you an offer, you blow them off or act like you insulted them in some way.

I usually wait to make an offer after a book or books have sat in a thread for a while with no action before making an offer, but that's just me. I like to give a seller time to make his asking price before offering something less....but I realize this is not law or anything.

It just seems really weird to me how some react to an offer. Anyone else experience this (without naming names)? Or is it just me? (That would be NOT AT ALL surprising ;) ).

  10.

Nothing exclusionary about it. This isn't eBay. Unless something has changed this Forum is about collecting comics first with buying and selling a secondary by-product.

    Jim

That's true...and a good point....I don't think I've done a great job at getting my opinion across (probably why I usually keep my mouth shut ;) ). I think the disconnect may be that you are talking about folks that JUST buy and sell and I am thinking more about folks that hang out in the Marketplace forums.

I have posted throughout the board, some in Comics General, some in the GA forums when another member turned me on to L.B. Cole covers, etc.. There is a definate group dynamic in a lot of the forums and many members spend a lot of time in one particular area of the board, only straying over the borders from time to time....the Marketplace forum is no exception. The board that I moderate is much the same way. We have members that post in our Politics forum that we never see on the main board.

I do think that the Marketplace isn't entirely about the transaction...there have been some fun discussions in this forum. A lot of buying and selling, to be sure....but I've gotten to know a lot of members by their posts here in these threads: what people collect, when their collecting focus changes, hearing the stories of where they bought a particular book they are selling or who they bought it from, etc. by hanging out in the Marketplace forums.

Regardless, I'm all about improving the quality of product in the Marketplace, and discussing it will do nothing but help.

    Well...it can't hurt, anyway!
