  1. Is a Pence/British version of X Men 1 considered more or less valuable than an American version in identical condition?
  2. Saw an X Men 1 CGC 4.0 sell for $13,642.96 at auction last night on eBay. Presented pretty well. Seems awfully low, no?
  3. hanks, but that's the link the CGC person sent me, but it is out of date. The links to nearby stores no longer work so I was hoping somebody on the boards deals with a CGC authorized dealer located near CGC in Sarasota. Anyone have a good recommendation? Thanks!
  4. Does anyone know of a CGC authorized dealer or facilitator located near CGC in Sarasota who can hand deliver books (with an appointment) to CGC? I asked CGC and they provided a list of dealers in florida, but the ones I contacted weren't in business or didn't respond. I'm hoping for one located near Sarasota or who routinely goes to CGC in person to hand deliver books. I am in Florida so I can meet them near CGC or at their place of business. I'm trying to reduce the risk of damage or loss during shipping for high $ books. Thanks!
  5. I'm with Amazon. 7.5. A bunch of small flaws and dirt combined take it down. Presents very well though.
  6. I want to make my first submission to CGC and I would like some info on how I should determine FMV for the walkthrough grading and pressing fees which are 3% of FMV each. Lets say I have a raw Hulk 181 that after a C&P by CGC gets graded as a 9.6, but right now, as is, I put the FMV as $15,000. Will the actual cost be adjusted by CGC after it is graded so if it comes out as a 9.6 or higher the FMV is higher and therefore I will be charged more? I would like to do everything right so please advise as how to determine FMV? Thanks!
  7. I’m not expecting even value in a trade of raw for graded. Everything is negotiable.
  8. I have considered the various suggestions and proposals people here have put forth (getting the comics graded, consigning etc). The main reason I don't want to use a place like mycomicshop or send books out to be graded and or cleaned and pressed is because I am too nervous about the risk of damage/loss during shipping and the difficulty in trying to collect on an insurance claim if something were to go wrong during shipping on books I bought 40 years ago. Anyway, long story short I have zero interest in shipping any books anywhere. I am looking for an in person transaction. I will provide a detailed inventory of my books and a collector with interest can come to my town, inspect everything in person, come up with their valuation and then we can negotiate on a CGC graded comic to trade for the whole collection or cash if they have it. I'd rather deal with a real collector than a consignment site. I just wanted to know where the proper place on this site to list such a proposed transaction would be. Thanks for the advice everyone.
  9. Yes, I likely will have to do any trade in person so the other party can inspect everything. It isn't perfect or easy, but if I sold everything I'd probably have to deal with a similar scenario. I thought trading would be easier, but perhaps I will investigate a sale.
  10. Great advice. Thanks all. My thought process is, maybe someone wants an entire X men run or DD run etc and they can deal with getting them C&P, graded etc and maximize value by selling them individually. I don't have the time, expertise or inclination to do that. And since I do have fairly high value in my collection I just thought trading my x men 1-161 RAW for say X men 1 in CGC 6.5 (example only), could benefit both parties. Me by getting an already graded, more easily salable comic and the other party who would be getting more than his one CGC book is worth (potentially a lot more), but would then have to deal with grading etc, something he likely would have far more experience with than me. So I thought this would be an easy win/win as opposed to trying to get $50,000 cash from somebody. Anyway I will consider what to do now that its been explained how I can go about it. Thanks to all who provided info.
  11. I understand and good point, but my collection includes X Men 1 in 3.5.-4.0 according to "Hey buddy can you spare a grade", Hulk 181 in likely 9.2 or 9.4+, X men 1-163, DD 1-183 and more. It's possible I could just trade the most sought after parts of my collection as well. Thanks for the input.
  12. I am interested in trading my entire RAW collection which includes some really high $ books from silver and bronze ages and some good Marvel runs(about 1250 total comic books) for 1 or several high value CGC graded books. Where would I list this on this site so I don't break any rules while allowing the most potentially interested people to see what I'm offering?
  13. I live in Florida near CGC's location and I would rather drop off my high $ silver age keys in person than take my chances with the post office or fed ex. When will CGC start allowing in person drop offs for grading and pressing?
  14. Thanks for the responses. When I took the pics it was the first time its been out of the sleeve in 35 years so anything going on with staples or otherwise is not something I have any info on. I will send out for a clean and press and hope for the best. I've seen copies in much worse states get 3.5 so I'm hoping with a C&P I can get a 4.0.
  15. Suggestions as to type of pictures I take appreciated as well. Not sure if I am getting everything necessary to allow a good assessment.
  16. Does anybody know if there are particular defects that can be improved by a clean and press and would it help with a grade bump to say a 4.5 if consensus is a 4.0 now or is 4.0 the ceiling? Appreciate any specifics so I can understand better. Thanks again!
  17. Thanks for the insights and comments so far. I was thinking 4.0 and that seems to be the consensus.
  18. Please let me know your thoughts on the condition of my X Men 1. Back cover has some dirt but no water damage if difficult to see in pics. Thanks in advance for your help.
