  1. I'd say the SA stopped at number 74, the last 12c issue of July 1969.
  2. I have bought VG books listed as VF but purposely only bid & paid VG prices for them because the photos clearly showed them to be lower grade. Maybe I'm being cynical here but in the UK it seems it's perfectly OK to list low grade books and describe them as high grade, using the tired old trope that 'grading is subjective' so one man's VG really is another man's (the seller's) VF. Fourth item you mention, tricking CGC to award higher grade than book warrants, is fraud, but you try proving it. The others are creative marketing.
  3. 3.0 just. Bit too much wear and tear to go higher.
  4. Classic 4.0 territory for me, even with the stain. Great book!
  5. Imagine this were an in-person club or group. Would the group as a whole rather get to know a new member before getting all their goodies out and offering them? Yes they would. And as for what kind of risk you may pose, well that question is also answered once we all get to know a little about you and what got you into comics. Not just comics either, there are threads about what else you like, films and general chat. All sorts. Play the game a little and then reap the benefits of having the ear of a great bunch of comic lovers and access to their knowledge and expertise. Even the guy who finds the magic lantern has to polish it a little before it offers him his three wishes.
  6. I think Mike is right. There needs to be a willingness on the part of a new board member to show they are genuinely engaging with the community on the boards. I understand impatience too. But engaging with board members in a meaningful and respectful way will lead to a better outcome for all concerned in a WTB situation.
  7. There's just no logical reason this is a green label. What's the difference between that and a date stamp???
  8. Since the white panel is expressly designed to take a store stamp, why on earth would you want to clean it off? It's performing it's function.
  9. Lets look at this as if it was graded as a universal. It would grade 0.5 Then ask the question will a clean & press raise a 0.5 at all, and the answer is no, it would not. Sadly, as it's a nice looking copy apart from the fundamental flaw.
  10. Ultimately disappointing but entertaining along the way. Too many little tantalising clues left that just weren't followed up. Here's one: In the icecave science lab they look up and you see the spiral form of a skeleton lizard or something frozen in the ice and that's never even mentioned again. Then there's the guy who was in the frozen mass of dead scientists who comes to life again (!!!) And it's mentioned that he's in hospital under sedation after having his arm snapped off but he's never mentioned again either. Ludicrous. Or did I miss something?
  11. Also worth considering is that once graded, the higher value books have still more value added to them by virtue of the slabbing. CGC want their cut for creating the added value.
  12. The beginnings of his later trademark photo realistic style can really be seen here.....
  13. 2.5 here. (Did you know that Albert Dorne's eyebrows went on to found their own studio?)
  14. Could it be distributors ink? Seems a bit purple. If so may not be such a bad hit on the grade since it's not just gravy or cola. I'd say 7.5 for this book as it stands.
  15. For me, that abrasion or wear to the spine keeps it to 6.5
  16. I won't be offended if you disregard my suggested grade, but if this were my copy, because of the tanning, I would go no higher than 7.5
  17. Oh, the colours! The art in these early Superman books are the epitome of GA, simple direct and well, just gorgeous! This one gets a 4.0 from me which includes the GA bump.
  18. General grubbiness and wear drags it down to a 4.0 in my eyes. The whole comic crease top right just confirms that for me.
  19. I reckon the CGC grade on this copy is 7.5 no higher, no lower. Look forward to your reveal in due course!
