  1. Pus one on that. At least you know you didn't put that ink there. You won't even be able to look at that book if you ruined it!
  2. I'm at 7.0 on your 476. Check out Marshall Rogers use of textured board on Batso's cape! Great comic, nice grade!
  3. Not another Hulk 181 to grade! Groan. Just kidding Rich. Welcome to the boards! I'm at 6.0 to 6.5 on your copy. Congrats on getting a good deal. Makes you feel even happier about a book knowing you didn't pay too much.
  4. 7.0 to 7.5 for me. These Byrne/Austin X Mens are a real high point in late 70s Marvel and Marvel more generally.
  5. I'm at 4.5 on this copy. Nice clean example! This book will never stop being cool, err.... or is that hot?
  6. A few spine stresses and a little bit of blunting on corners so I shall suggest a 7.0 to 7.5 Hope that gets you off to a start! Others will be along soon. Some of Brunner's best cosmic art in this issue!
  7. Looks like a 5.5 to 6.0 to me because of the back cover. Presents very well from the front. So often a back cover is better than the front, luckily in this case, the other way round.
  8. Is that 'wear' due to sticking to something while damp (another copy?) then removed, causing a pull/tear? I can see maybe a little waviness along the top edge of the F cover too, supporting that theory. I'm at 7.0 to 7.5 on account of the BC damage. 6.5 if it's been caused by water damage. Still has the eye appeal of a top grade book.
  9. The overpaying is across the hobby really, as the Bronze explosion is showing us. Many factors for this, but as my generation (approaching 60,) reach the age where disposable income is probably at a higher level than for any previous generation, (poss including the post war Baby Boomers,) that could have something to do with it. There's also the very real feeling that maybe its a 'last chance to buy' as new pedigree collections out there in the wild, waiting to be found and brought to market, must surely be getting scarce now. After all, it is 2021 and the GA ended more than six decades ago.
  10. Before I ever had any Marvel's etc I did have The Penguin Book Of Comics. It covers comics from cave paintings through to pop art/culture through stage, screen, newspaper strips, you name it. That's where I first saw the Yellow Kid, Lil Abner, Tiger Tim etc all down the ages. Its a comics education and should be in schools today, such a good resource. This book is the source of my life long addiction.
  11. I forgot all about my Canadian eBay win not that long ago, of Strange Tales 169 to 173 for 99c plus shipping. No bids (!) 8 minutes to go and I watched it count down to zero with just my bid. I think that was below FMV!
  12. I'm not going to walk up your driveway after dark! Fabulous work, so detailed. Professional quality.
  13. I'm with the 7.0 crowd on this one. I do love these early caps. They are the bedrock of Marvel circa 1968 for me.
  14. Plus there is the Netflix Effect, whereby a previously unregarded comic is thrust into the limelight owing to something that featured in one of the recent crop of superhero TV programmes. Its like bingo, you can study your list against that backdrop! Its all fun.
  15. In time the White Pages copy will have off white pages too. (The rest Ive deleted as I was over sharing, so my apologies.)
  16. I'd really like to see some form of grader notes on the label. There's room for a brief comment or two: Spine split / popped staple / water stain interior. In fact the note could be confined to mentioning just the interior faults.
  17. Good question and worth asking directly to a CGC rep if there is any mechanism to flag lost/stolen items in case they made their way back to them. Thieves aren't always smart but are always greedy.
  18. Even unslabbed, a book can be too nice to continually handle, leading to the reader copy route. I have a few in that category, but even so, I'll get the nice copy out from time to time.
  19. Brighton flea market find on 21 Sept. £2 for this Eagle Comics number 1. (Worth $2 on MCS.) And I thought there were no more bargains left. Its a good read too.
  20. Popped staples are the worst. I have a really nice looking FF 82, looks like a 7.5 but top staple has popped...grrr
  21. I'm imagining it like pizza dough: The comic would become the size of a football field, then you could start cutting off regular comic book sized pieces and, well...fractional ownership anyone?
  22. Totally agree. As much as I like the value of my comics going up, I'm not into making any money from them. Even to buy other books. It seems that it's all about the money for some people, while for me it's about not being able to obtain comics anymore due to the prices asked. I'd happily see a correction, esp for the run of the mill comics that are being dragged up in price for no really good reason. Even lower grades are being hit with serious increases. (I do want to make clear though, I have nothing against people making serious money from their books when they choose to sell. They've made good buying decisions, good investments. It's the effect on us mere mortals and our ability to participate in the hobby due to the price hikes / hype that bothers me.)
  23. Great to see a GA Batman in the flesh! I'm at 3.0 to 3.5 on this book. (I always arrive at my estimate before looking at other members grades.)
