  1. That remains to be seen... My initial thought is to mark existing user sets as "Legacy" sets. The sets would still exist, but wouldn't be Competitive. I am not, nor have I ever been a programmer, so I don't know if anything I want can be accomplished. This is all pure speculation. My end goal is to automate the admin processes to the point where I have more time to do some marketing campaigns, and work with the Sig Series Team to bring in some artists, etc...
  2. There will be Awards in 2024. It's just a question of what the Registry will look like a year from now. There may be no changes whatsoever, or there may be more changes than people would like. The main factor is the ERP migration, it is taking up all of IT's time and focus. Once the migration is complete, I fully expect the Registry to be ported over to the format similar to Trading Cards. THEN, I will engage with the AI team to work some magic, and implement the changes that I envision.
  3. The things I want to do will require some extensive coding changes, which will not happen this year. What I have in mind for the Registry will require a new field, Series Year. (I.e. the year Issue #1 was published). Then, I envision the Official Set Categories to look like this: • Comic Age • Year • Title (Series Year) Issues The user would then be able to create their sets any way they like. There would be a drop down box that would allow the user to choose which Award Category they wish to compete in. This will more than likely require an official minimum and maximum number of books for a Competitive Set, which I am still unsure about. On my end, it would simplify everything, I would only have to worry about one slot for one book, in one set. Again, this is all wishful thinking on my part.
  4. Great question! And it's the first thing I asked when I took over the Registry. The short answer is, we cant prevent it. The sheer volume of cert transfers prevents me from validating every single transaction. The only thing I can do is react to complaints. If someone is caught snarfing cert numbers, they will be contacted and asked to provide proof of ownership. If they fail to provide the requested information, the book will be removed from their inventory. If they persist, their account will be suspended.
  5. Yes, I am taking that into account. It will all depend on porting the Registry over to the new format. LIke I said, its just an idea I've been kicking around. Set consistency is a big problem, it has been since I inherited the Registry. Not all sets are created equal, and I would prefer to have one book, in one slot, in one set. That's hilarious, but not too far off the mark....0_o
  6. @ADAMANTIUM One idea I've been kicking around is making all sets custom, then let the user decide which category they wish to compete in. This would eliminate the need for competitive sets, and would allow me to re-organize the existing sets according to Series Year. I am hoping that this will be the last Awards using the Collector's Society. My background is in IT, so I have been trained to never criticize the system. So, I will just say that the CS has outlived it's usefulness. It was originally designed for coins, and the comic book side was created a very long time ago. if you want a peek at the future of the Comic Registry, look at Trading Cards. I only use CS for add fails and the Awards, the rest of the admin tasks are done on cgccomics.com, and looks very similar to the Trading Card Registry. The problem I have been seeing is with the "Sub" Variants, i.e. legit variants that are modified by an artist for a specific comic con.. Now they are doing Sub-Sub Variants, which is a nightmare.
  7. There is a Set Add Request thread, however, it is currently locked., I will reopen the Set Add Request thread after the Awards: If you feel that a book doesn't belong in a particular set, post in this thread, which is also locked. It will reopen July 21st: Please keep in mind that my philosophy is: If someone takes the time, money, and effort to certify their book at CGC, they should be able to add it to the Registry. That doesn't necessarily mean that book should be competitive. I am more than willing to mark sub variants, and other anomalies as non-competitive.... Non Competitive slots do not count towards the set completion percentage, and they only receive 1 point regardless of grade.
  8. Don't forget to nominate the best sets here:
  9. Just a heads up: All request Threads will be locked at 5:00 pm EDT Request Threads will reopen on or about July 21st. All Non-Transfer Add Fails will be rejected during this time. (I learned the hard way last year....heh). Add Fail resolution will also resume on or about July 21st. Use this thread for general trash talking, criticisms of the Registry Admin, or just general comic book nonsense. I will have more to say when I'm back from Vacation. Thanks for participating in the Registry. and stay tuned. Some exciting things are coming! -Brian
  10. I am in the "Completionist" camp, there just isn't consistency between the sets. Keep in mind that I inherited the Registry just 2 years ago. Any and all coding changes to the Registry are suspended until the ERP system is implemented company wide. The best I can do right now is the status quo when it comes to scoring: Non-Key books before 2015 are scored 3 (the minimum cover price) This results in 24 points for a 9.8: Non-Key Books after 2015 are scored 4 Which results in 32 for 9.8: Keep in mind that these are Universal Scores. I have no control over the weighted scores for the other grading categories. i also do not have access to the multipliers within the Universal Scoring table. Keys and Vintage Books are scored according to Overstreet Access 9.2, which is the maximum grade Overstreet Scores. (Note that our multipliers for the other grades differ from Overstreet.) That is the scoring policy in a nutshell. Is it perfect? No, it is not. but its what I have to work with. As for set consistency, that is #1 on my list when we completely port the registry over from the Collector Society, but that is another ball of wax.... So bear with me, I want the Registry to be fun, fair, and accessible to everyone. I will have more to say after the Awards, and I will create a new thread.
  11. Yes, the Collector's Society has outlived its usefulness. As far as I know, it was ported over from Coins, back in the day..... My vision is to make the Comic Registry look like the Gaming Card Registry: https://www.cgccards.com/registry/ It's already half completed, I only use CS for add fails and the Awards. ========= I have tried to make the Awards more fun for everyone, that is why I created this thread, and the Nomination Thread: I am really proud of last year's Awards, it was a lot of fun, and it got us noticed by the powers that be. As a result, The Comic Registry was transferred to the Marketing Team this year. I have been swamped with adds due to the rate increase. We are also migrating to a new ERP system across all companies. Once we get past that, I have plans to co-market with the Sig Series Team, and maybe have some artists create a set or two.... So stay tuned, changes are coming.
  12. Hello @Off Panel There is a waiting period of 72 hours for transfers if the original owner does not respond to the request. Sometimes, there may be system downtime that prevents the request from going through. This will cause the transfer to get stuck. If this happens, send me a DM here, or email me the details, with the certificate numbers to brogiers@collectiblesgoup.com and I will manually approve the transfer. Thanks!
  13. As long as your set is marked as public, it is eligible. We do not give awards to private sets.
  14. Nope, as long as it's not cut and pasted. We do check. Personally, I look for great stories behind the acquisition of particular books. It usually makes the difference when choosing winners.
  15. Closing this thread. I will reopen this thread October 1st I will fulfill the remaining requests now. If I did not fulfill your request, or if a scoring table isn't populated, Please DM me or email me at: brogiers@collectiblesgroup.com Thanks!
  16. 1) Not so much that as dealers. I do appreciate the work and dedication it takes to acquire grails. It's just that the high value grails really distort the smaller sets. Keep in mind that I inherited the scoring system, and I am doing my very best to work with the hand that I was dealt. 2) Again, the grails just completely blow out the average collector. Having Amazing Fantasy 15 guarantees a top spot in some sets. I think we did a pretty good job of balancing the grail hunters and the "completionists" in last year's awards. The point system rewards grail hunters, the Awards rewards both. I have always had a problem with the focus on points. There's very little I can do to convince people to look at the bigger picture when it comes to the Registry. I have been kicking around some new ideas, but I am constrained by the Collector's Society format, and the sheer size of the Registry. One Idea I had is to make all sets Custom, and let the collector decide which category they want their set to compete in. I would also like to modify points based on descriptions and photos, but that would require extensive coding changes that simply aren't going to happen. There is talk of migrating the Collector's Society to a format similar to Trading Cards. I think that would allow me to do some of the things I have always wanted to do within the Registry. Maybe next year.....
  17. I'll take a look. Usually when this happens, the invoice associated with the cert number gets "stuck" in the system. This prevents the certificate number from being visible in the lookup. I am having VPN issues at the moment. When I can log in, I will try to release the invoice.
  18. Sure, but all that does is reward someone with a lot of money, and discourages average collectors from competing in the Registry.
  19. I have no control over weighted scores. The only input I have is Universal,
  20. This is the place to request that scores in the CGC Registry competitive scores be evaluated. You may have slight disagreements with scores, but some of those slight disagreements just boil down to a judgment call. What we're looking for here are clearly incorrect scoring examples. When making requests, please use full title of the book and publish date, also, certificate numbers help immensely. Start with the key issues that you feel need the attention the most. Please avoid requests like "Update all scores in X-Men (1963)." Please note: Scores are loosely based on Fair Market Value. CGC does not set prices for comic books in the open market. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Comic scores do not equate to market dollars. A more valuable book will in most cases receive more Registry points, but its score is not directly correlated to its value. The algorithm is also designed to enhance and encourage competition in the Registry by reducing extremes in value differences between grades and categories. For this reason a very valuable book may receive fewer points than might be expected, or a relatively common book will receive more points than might otherwise be expected. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If it is determined that a score needs to be adjusted, it will be scored according to Overstreet Access' 9.2 value. Also, please focus on single book. For example, Upgrades that are under valued in points, not 700-800 books that need to go up one point. *Posts that have been edited after the original posting date will be skipped and not revisited. Meaning, if you add more to your request at a later date, I will not fulfill it. Your request will be ignored and you need to resubmit your request. In short, don't try to skip others. Make a new post for your new requests, don't add to the old one. ***If the score simply has a “0” just PM me and I will fix it.**** Thank you for your patience and participation in the registry!
  21. Usually, they are scored equally, unless there is a significant difference in value.
  22. I would prefer to have books that actually have the Newsstand designation in the new slots.
  23. Resubmitted Newsstands will get the Newsstand designation in the Pedigree Field. First time submitted books will have the Newsstand designation in the Variant field, as usual. As far as the Registry goes, we will create a separate Newsstand slot in the appropriate set. However, the slot will be populated with the first run edition, due to the fact that the Registry search does not recognize the Pedigree field. I realize this is not optimal, but it is the only way to accommodate resubmitted Newsstand editions.
