  1. https://www.cgccomics.com/news/article/11457/cgc-registry-awards/ This year, winners will receive a CGC-certified Batman #125 Alex Ross variant signed by Alex Ross! The Registry Freeze will begin at 5 p.m. EST on June 23, 2023. Winners will be announced on July 21, 2023. May the odds be ever in your favor.... -Brian
  2. Looks like the cert lookup is back, I haven't received any official notice yet, but I was able to lookup a cert number successfully just now.
  3. It appears there is an issue with the certificate lookups this morning. I have submitted a ticket, and the powers that be are aware. I will post updates here. Thanks!
  4. You're good, there won't be any demerits...lol I will look into this further next week. There are some other pressing issues on the Web side that are taking up all their time. Have you noticed other sets with blurry thumbnails? I'm wondering if this is an attempt to thwart AI crawlers from capturing these images. Just spit balling here, I have no idea why the images would all of a sudden become blurry like that.
  5. The Registry search does not include notes, so there isn't an easy way to find the books with that particular insert. Feel free to create a custom set with those books, and let us know when its live!
  6. I will look into this. In the meantime, can you replace one pic, and let me know the result? Thanks!
  7. I have a number of issues with Market Value Scoring for individual books: The CGC Census does not represent the open market. CGC should not be, and is not, in the business of declaring FMV for individual books There is no automated system in place to adjust scores, it is all done by hand. Market fluctuations make accurate, up to date adjustments impossible. However, the status quo will be in place for the foreseeable future. I am doing my very best to accommodate every one, and keep the powers that be happy at the same time..... I agree with your formula for set scores. But it will require extensive coding changes, which will not even be considered until the ERP migration is completed. Also, I want to stress that the Collector's Society set rankings and the Award rankings are not the same thing. We rank contenders according to completion % first, then by photos and comments. We look at the comments to make sure that they are not just copied and pasted from another website. We also look for passion for the hobby in the comments.
  8. And Amazing Fantasy 15 gets 6400 points for a Universal .5 Grade.... If you look at the leaders for ASM Complete w/ Variants, 2nd place only has 5% complete, with 0 images, yet they have 746482 points. Why? Because they have 2 grails. Meanwhile, 13th place has 85% complete, 347 images, and only gets 194034 points. They do not have ASM #1 I would rather have the sets ranked by completion percentage first. It doesn't look like that is going to happen any time soon, if at all. So, I will continue to stress that Registry Points do not equate to market dollars. As far as the Awards go, we only use points to determine the top sets in each category, then rank according to completion %, images, and original descriptions.
  9. Get out of my head, Sir! I completely agree, but we are going to stick with the status quo, for now. The algorithm is supposed to adjust for desirability and rarity, WITHIN THE CENSUS. This is why I keep harping on the fact that the Registry and the Census do not represent the open market. They only represent books that are in the CGC database.
  10. As I mentioned earlier, we are going to adjust individual scores twice a year. Adjustments will be done in April and October. I will create an official announcement on the boards, and the main website soon. I will be using Overstreet to determine scores for individual books. Keep in mind that the census algorithm will still weigh scores like before. ONLY UNIVERSAL SCORES WILL BE ADJUSTED. I do not have access to the algorithm, or have any control over weighted scoring. I will fulfill the existing requests in the old thread first, and create a new thread in April for new requests.
  11. With the new company wide ERP migration , there will be no coding changes to Collector's Society. We are waiting for approval to make scoring changes twice a year, as opposed to doing it on the fly. The scoring adjustment period will probably be April and October. I will make an announcement on the boards once it is approved.
  12. Keep in mind that points in the registry are for entertainment purposes only. They do not, and will never, reflect market value. I want to get away from points being the determinate factor in top sets. If I had my way, sets would be ranked by: Set Completion Percentage Percentage of comics with images Percentage of comics with descriptions (BTW, this is how we determine Award Winners) How to accomplish this goal, without major coding changes, remains a significant challenge. I'm not sure that it can be done in the Registry's current configuration. But, a boy can dream.... I can't give specific examples at this time, and I may have to scrap the whole thing eventually.
  13. It's what I was told to do. Mine is not to reason why.....
  14. Not sure yet, my original thought was to set the 9.0 Universal score at 4 for all comics, then let the algorithm determine the weighted score. But that would make base scores for 7.5 and below - 1. This isn't optimal, and it would also make the base score for 9.8 - 32. What I am sure about is that registry scores should not be based on open market value. How to get away from that is a very complicated question.
  15. @Iconic1s The problem is that the registry does not differentiate between different pedigrees, only variants. Here is what I see when I populate a slot: Creating new slots with a descriptive title is the only way to indicate the book is a variant when the variant field is not populated. I have done this for older books that have variant covers that were graded before the variant field was implemented. I am not a grader, I do not have any say in what is or what isn't a variant. It's not perfect, and yes, either book can be added to that slot. @Microchip The way individual scoring is supposed to work is: Base Score x Category Modifier x Census Algorithm Modifier = Weighted Score
  16. Please see this post regarding my thoughts on scoring in the Registry: After this Year's Awards, I plan on implementing major changes to the Registry structure. Some of the changes I am planning are not going to be popular, but I feel they are necessary. My intention is to make set scoring more dependent on completion percentage, set detail, and photographs, as opposed to having 2 or 3 keys/grails.
  17. To clarify: Re-slabbed Newsstand books will have the 'Newsstand' designation in the Pedigree field. Re-slabbed Newsstands will retain their original Comic ID. As far as the registry is concerned, this is NOT considered a variant. I can, and I have, created new slots with a newsstand title. However, the book in that slot will be populated with the first run book, and will have the score associated with the first run. New slabs will be categorized at the discretion of the Graders, they will determine if the book is truly a Newsstand Edition. There are a number of sets with true Newsstand variants, and the weighted score is determined by the Census. I firmly believe if someone takes the time and expense to submit books to be graded by CGC, they should be able to add it to the Registry. I also believe that the scoring system is untenable in it's current form. The Census does not, and should not, reflect the open market.

Hello @Alphey You can create a custom set to keep track of your collection. Take a look at this custom set by COMICSKI: https://comics.www.collectors-society.com/WCM/ComicCustomSetView.aspx?s=31723
  19. Closing This thread. Creating new thread. I will fulfill the rest of these requests in the order they were received. Thanks.

  21. The way individual scoring is supposed to work is: Base Score x Category Modifier x Algorithm Modifier = Weighted Score I only have write access to the Base Score. The rest is determined by the back end. After the Holidays, I am going to try to get a look at how the algorithm works. There are a number of anomalies that I suspect are due to issues with the Census. Once again, I DO NOT have write access to the Census. What I want to happen is to let the algorithm do the heavy lifting when it comes to a final individual score. Having a fixed base score levels the field, and puts more emphasis on set completion percentage and descriptions/photos.
  22. Thanks for letting me know, sorry for the inconvenience.
  23. So, yeah. MX is our IT Contractor, and the Web Team is aware. Not much more I can do on this end. :shrug
  24. I have been receiving a number of messages about error messages from the Control Panel link on the Collector Society page. The only thing I know for sure is that we are moving to a new ERP system, and there is an ongoing effort to clean up the data in the Census. Other than that, I'm not sure why these error messages appear. If you are getting persistent error messages, please post below. Include your username, the URL you are redirected to, and the error message received. I will forward them on to the Web Team. Thanks!
