My Dinner With Greggy

42 posts in this topic

Because all the rage these days is posts describing the vast array of culinary delights enjoyed by forumites with our very own Greggy, I needed to get this post up lest I be shunned by the membership of Greggy's Comestibles Clicque. Besides, what's more important than comics? Well, food! :D

Recently I was in Vancouver for a business meeting. My free time was severely limited but I had a night free and Greggy suggested we get together and go to the local restaurant Tojo's (see www.tojos.com ) which has been rated as one of, if not THE, best sushi restaurants in North America. And we didn't have just any sushi but decided to do the famed Tojo's "Omakase" wherein you sit at the sushi bar and put your dinner in the hands of the chef. You give them a dollar amount (I'm not saying how much we spent each but it was A LOT) and they just bring you food. Or you just keep letting them bring you food till you're done, and then they total of the cost of what you eat (which is basically what we did). This is not for the faint of heart, or wallet! :whatthe:

We split a bottle of sake (or was it two? Hulk's head hurt! :P ) which was delicious. We had some absolutely amazing dishes, and it was without question the best sushi I have ever had. In fact, it may have been the best meal I've ever had. Absolultely spectacular. The bluefin tuna that the chef brought us was melt-in-your-mouth tender. I would go back to Vancouver just to go to Tojo's. :cloud9:

It was a nice opportunity to hear about Greggy's collecting adventures and his life-long affinity for sweet, sweet DCs. Even with 2 bottles of sake in him, I couldn't get him to admit liking Marvels. Although one more bottle might have done it. hm

And if that wasn't enough, Greggy brought me some of his personal copies of the original Jack Kirby Collector, complete with the original mailing envelopes. I'll try to get some scanned, but the early editions had Kirby artwork printed on the mailing envelopes. (thumbs u

So although I wasn't able to participate in the San Diego DiningCon, I mean, ComicCon, I was able to enjoy a recent meal with Greggy on his own Great White North turf. I highly recommend Tojo's, and implore everyone to create their own personal experience of My Dinner With Greggy .

Hey Steve glad you survived Vancouver and dinner with Greggy. I was up their not too long ago but we did not go for sushi. Oddly enough we ate at a place called joey's (food was very good, but the view's were better). I did some comic hunting earlier but Greggy was at work and at the gym before I met him for dinner that evening.

So far thats two of us, anyone else care to join in with their "I had dinner with Greggy" story.

A date for what? Or were you attempting to be clever and imply that Greggy and I were dating? You are a riot, Icefires. Simple-minded, but a riot.

I only had breakfast with greggy at the YMCA in SD. Nothing else was open in the morning unless you wanted to hike north to Denny's which was farther away from Comic-con.

Could not find a decent Chinese or Vietnamese restaurant anywhere on their Broadway. Very few franchises on Broadway except for Wendy's which, thank goodness, was open late in the evening after several Horton Plaza outdoor mall eateries closed at 8:00 pm.

Seemed like Burger King and McDonald's was closer to Sheraton Suites near the I-5 hwy.

Try attempting to spend more than a friggin' 10 dollar bill on a meal and you'll get better food.

Two dinners at Wendy's is :screwy:

This really cracks me up, my wife went to Frisco years ago with her college roommate. Greta wanted seafood, and whatever place had great fresh food, on a budget.

Her roommate wanted to eat at Wendy's everyday, Sadly, they both ate alone. Greta found a few awesome places, her friend got Value meal #3 several times.

(tsk)

Tim, if you had Wendy's at home, would you be eating there while on vacation? I can walk 4 blocks to get Wendy's. Why the hell would I go to one in SD?
