showcase22gr1959
I am not sure right now. You used to be able to land them for below guide in almost every grade below 8.0, but I am not certain now. That being said, with guide at $700 or a smidge higher in VG I would expect someplace between $400 - $600 should do the trick. You had a nice Green Lantern #1 and I wish I bought that from you. There are plenty of other 7.0s out there if you are still looking. (thumbs u Yours was a decent price...and I like the eye appeal. It was the 7.0 that Brent auctioned off last week. Checked the ended auction...unfortunately I missed it. Decent deal on the GL1 7.0. (thumbs u What did it go for? Really low...like $1600.
kimik
It looks like the market has softened a bit this month with so many 7.0+ copies of GL #1 available. There was one that sold in a recent Heritage Sunday night auction, and there are a few copies of GL #1 in the Clink auction that ends this week. If you are looking, it might be a good time to pick one up now. (thumbs u

kimik
It is interesting to see the current prices on the Clink 8.0 (White) and 8.5 (LT-OW ). Right now there is just a $100 difference due to the page quality, but the 8.0 looks a bit soft to me compared to other 8.0s I have seen (even though it is old label). I wonder if the 8.0 can surpass the 8.5 based on page quality?

kimik
The GLs did okay, but not great, as a whole in the Clink auction tonight. I think the one problem was that the selection was a bit weak with nothing after #1 until #11, unlike the Mound City run which had a great selection of earlier HG issues. #1 8.5 LT/OW - $6,350 (did well for a kiss of death LT/OW page quality IMHO) #1 8.0 W - $4,100 (new GPA high in grade) #1 7.0 OW - $1,850 (there is some weakness in 7.0 prices now - too many copies floating around at the moment?) #1 6.5 OW/W - $1,399 (new GPA high in grade) #11 9.4 W - $2,001 (slightly lower than last GPA sale of $2,150 earlier in the year) #12 9.4 OW - $1,890 (new GPA high in grade) #12 9.2 CR/OW - $405 (new GPA high in grade) #14 9.4 W - $1,167 (down significantly from GPA high of $1,554 in May 2008) #16 9.0 OW - $685 (up from last sale, but down from 2008 GPA high of $777) #21 9.2 OW - $376 (new GPA high in grade) #23 9.4 OW/W - $910 (down significantly from GPA high of $1,315 in May 2008) #29 9.4 CR/OW - $475 (down from last GPA sale of $635 in July 2009) #40 9.4 OW/W - $1,676 (not bad - the Bethlehem 9.4 sold for $1,972 in May 2009) #59 9.8 OW/W - $5,900 (Pacific Coast copy - last sold in 2006 for $3,107 according to GPA) #76 9.4 W - $9,200 (back to more normal prices now?) #76 9.2 W - $3,156 (prices seem to be holding well at this level outside of that freak $6,500 sale earlier this year) #76 8.5 W - $827 (prices seem to be holding well at this level) Edited November 18, 2009 by kimik

I wouldn't normally expect a list of prices prefaced by "okay, but not great" to then have a bunch described as "new GPA high". I think a #1 8.5 with LT pages for $6350 is huge. It means people will pay up for ANY copy that's in reasonably high grade. I have a slightly different take on the #11, which is that its price is holding up remarkably well considering all of the new supply of HG copies that have come on the market, particularly given that 9.4 is no longer highest in census. True enough. Mind you, I don't consider the GPA highs to be that accurate on these books since they do not include the recent Mound City results or other sales. I think the problem with GPA is that a lot of the HG SA DCs are not sold on eBay so their information is a bit out of touch with the market. That being said, I am happy that the market is not overly frothy yet for early SA GL issues. Looks like it is setting things up for a nice run next year or early 2011 before the movie comes out. There is still time to build speculative stashes, if you can find the books in high grade! Edited November 18, 2009 by kimik
