Audition is actually one movie I've been afraid to pick up. I'll do it, eventually......

Definitely worth it.

If you like Audition, you will probably like Old Boy. Not a classic horror movie... but in the same vein.

Actually, if you're able to find the following:

Recently released on video...

ALTERED.

Hands down, one of THE best movies I have seen all year.

5 hillbilly's are abducted by aliens.

4 make it back.

3 want revenge.

Great story, -script, acting, NO real special effects but great makeup.

Now, older...and less known...

Albert Finney did a film that was on A&E about 15 years ago.

It's called "THE GREEN MAN."

It's about 3 hrs. long and CREEeeeeeeeeeeepy!!!

It's out of print, not on DVD but I actually own an original print of the VHS because I was a manager for a video chain back then.

If you can find a copy, it's worth it.

Titanic

The Bodyguard

Steel Magnolias

Need I say more?

You forgot The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.

And you must include, "How to Make an American Quilt".

I think the film that still holds up would be Night of the living dead.

I really liked the dawn of the dead remake(originals great too!)

I`m not a fan of the torture murder films that come out these days.

If i want that sort of thing i check out Last house on the Left,it`s done right because you care about the victims.

It looks like AMC is showing some pretty good stuff,i have most of it on dvd though

so i`ve been watch the sci fi channel stuff thats pretty bad,but a few of them have turned out to have a couple good ideas.

Yes! One of my favorite Halloween-themed films will play on Halloween day...

Halloween III : Season of the Witch

Yeah, it doesn't have Michael Myers... get over it. On its own, it's still a very good movie.

Not exactly a pure horror film, but I'm about to sit down and watch "Blood Simple" with Mrs. Red Hook. She's never seen it. I'm going to enjoy watching her jump out of her seat!

I don't like 'horror' movies per se, but I do love good-old fashioned monster movies. I love most of the Hammer catalog, as well as some of the Mexican horrors like La Llarona (Curse of the Crying Woman). Pretty old-school, but I love the atmosphere.

Miike: I really like Ichi the Killer; I've read lots of reviews of Audition but I'm not sure it's the type of movie I'd like. Miike is really, seriously weird even in his most 'mainstream' films.

If you really want to read a scary book, try Shirley Jackson's The Haunting Of Hill House, which 'The Haunting' was based on. It really is the scariest piece of fiction I've come across.
