Seller offering me a Tec 27 and Batman 1.. What to do!?!?!?

96 posts in this topic

2 days ago, after asking this person whether he had any early Tec books and early Batman books, he emails me saying he has a Detective Comics 27 and a Batman 1. At first I thought hmm, this could only mean one of two things. A is that he is selling a reprint copy of each and B he is just saying that to impress me. In his email, he said that the Tec 27 has minor tape and minor color touch. He gave the book a grade of VG/VG+. For the Bat 1, he said that the book has tape on the spine and some color touch. Inside pages are offwhite/white. Then he asks what would I pay? After reading his email, I asked for scans of both books as I didn't quite believe him.

The next day, he sent me scans of both books.. After viewing the scans, I came to the conclusion that they were in fact the real deal!?!?! I just couldn't believe it. My grail Tec 27 and another book I really want Bat 1 is up for sale!?!? What do I do? I've came up with 2 possibilities. The first is that I sell my pre-robin Tec books and my other GA books to maybe come up with the funds to pay for maybe just the Tec 27 or possibly both. Second, I may ask him if he can hold out on the books until I can save up some funds for the purchase. Realistically, I can probably just afford the Batman 1 in say 2-3 years or somewhere around there? I've recently made a big purchase a few weeks ago in the Crippen Tec 33 and so I'm pretty much out of spending $. I'm faced in this situation that if only I have the $, I woul definitely buy both books. I really don't want to let this go because it's too difficult...... So the question is, what should I do? :pullhair:

If it's a choice between the Tec 27 and Bats 1, the Tec wins hands down. Bats 1's are everywhere in unrestored condition. The same can't be said for the Tec 27. You're confident that this seller is on the up-and-up? What about his/her restoration detection skills? Hopefully there isn't more resto than what's been disclosed. Just playing devil's advocate.

Regarding the Tec, Nice, cover sure has nice appeal.

Is the only tape on the interior cover llc? And I would want to see the BC urc.

I guess it is hard to give advice without know what you know. i e.. How much does he want?

Is he open to returns if you have it checked etc.. Just a few of many questions observations.

Thanks for the photos, will look forward to seeing this plays out tomorrow.

Wow! What's he asking? Is he close enough for you to go and look at the books?

Yea tell me about it.. My jaw literally dropped and I was druling!!! He is asking me how much I'd want to pay for them and I have no answer for him.. I don't think he lives in CA, so I won't be able to see the books in person. But if I were to buy it, I'd be flying over to him and check em out. I would also have those books checked out my a restoration specialist to make sure that no other restoration has been done on the book and that he really does have the books in hand, which I really think he does.

Wow! I already said that, didn't I? If I had the nerve to buy two books like that, which I don't, I'd be so nervous that I'd probably do a little poopy in my pants. Did I just say that? I'd always too quick to go for the cheap laugh. I have no shame.

Looking at the inside back cover, I can see tape when its flipped open. Doesn't seem to be in the interior pages itself. I don't know much about both books, but I may ask more questions if you want me to.

Buy the Tec!

I know.. You don't know how much I would love to do that. As I said earlier, I'd have to sell my entire collection for me to gather the funds for the Tec.. I will think long and hard on this one.. I have not given up yet on my dreams of owning that book. And right now, its within my reach.

They have an "old" look to them, with the dings and the tape, but at the same time, the height-to-width ratio doesn't look right to me in the scans. Have you asked the seller for the measurements?

These still look like the treasury-sized reprints with the outer covers removed.
