Long time coming to find this one. Doc Savage Magazine #1

Many here know I am a huge Doc fan so I was pretty excited to have the opportunity to snag this one.

Rarely seen and rarely offered for sale.

Should be arriving this friday

Anyone going to Pulpfest here in Columbus this weekend? I went today and wow, tons of great stuff!

I really wanted to go but just didn't have the funds to do it

Hope you have a great time and hope you take a few pic's to show us!

I didn't take my camera to the show, unfortunately, but here's a shot of my haul...

I continue to pick up Thrilling Wonder Stories issues...there's so much to offer in this series for relatively cheap. This issue has a story by Bradbury, John D. McDonald, and a fantastic fantasy yarn from Leigh Brackett, who is swiftly becoming one of my favorite sci-fi writers. On top of that it has the typical gorgeous illos by Finlay, not to mention a great painted cover by Bergey.

Love the Bergey cover :cloud9:

Brackett was also a top-notch movie screenwriter......but you probably knew that :)

Picked this up at SDCC - I'm not a pulp collector, but have seen enough to know it has better than average paper:

On the subject of FInlay pulp illos, does anyone know where this was printed? I've been looking in every pulp I've picked up for the last ten years.

Haven't come across it yet. It looks like it had a more refined printing than the typical pulp page. Where did you get the image? I've noticed that Finlay had some portfolios produced for popular consumption, because they were advertised in some of the pulps I've picked up. Maybe this is from one of them?

It's an original. I bought it at SDCC in 1999. I've been looking since then for it in print.

I doubt it was for a portfolio, but it occurs to me that it might have been used for an interior illustration in a novel. Some of his more polished work was printed as such. Maybe an Arkham book? Nevertheless, Finlay did do some rather detailed work, even for the low paying pulps, and the rather salacious subject matter of this cat fight kinda lends itself to that market. And speaking of pulps......... :gossip:
